I don't see why you guys are so against a 3DS lite showing up... it seems to be a very important platform for Nintendo if they had all their bases covered with the WiiU a new 3DS revision can only help them get even more 3rd party support for both platforms... hello, 2 screens, touch, spotpass, AR.... HELLO?

Great, so I can accidentally graze the Home button with the heel of my thumb and open a menu during playing! Brilliant!

Seriously. Why does the "Wii U" logo take placement precedence over the menu buttons? Seems a bit silly. Like the atrocious Black/White buttons on the XBox Controller S. I don't like it. Everything else is nice, though.

The problem with the home button is that you can hardly reach it while playing when it's positioned in the middle.

3DS lite would be the worst thing ever. It's already way too small.
 
Guess I'm only partial to the name GameCube because it doesn't have that "lame 90s 'xtreme'" ring to it.

But I'm not going to start upending tables when we all find out Nintendo hasn't changed the name of the Wii U.

This system could be totally awesome, but that name still hasn't grown on me a year later. You think they would announce a name change at an investor's meeting?

Well, if what our dear friend Rösti said/investigated is anything to go by
Nintendo is pretty much done with all the trademarks issues about the "Wii U" name it had when it was first revealed

I'm assuming it is likely the final name and they won't change it one month away from E3
So I think we should already move on. It's not happening :(
 
Obviously the name change is going to be U Wii, to celebrate the collaboration between Uwe Boll and Nintendo, who will be directing, writing and producing a Metroid film.

Actually, they are not done with the trademark issues. Though with the recent developments it looks more certain that Wii U is the definitive name the console will bear. The trademark is good to go in Japan, Australia and Mexico, now Nintendo just needs to come to an agreement with Information Technology Junction Limited (the company that has opposed the Wii U trademarks 010377331 and 010391134 in England). It's been going on ever since the 27th of January, and the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market appears to have difficulties coming to a decision about the admissibility of the opposition. Hopefully this could be addressed at the IR event next week, though unlikely.

Make it a 3DS XL. Even with the CPP attached I have a hard time comfortably playing. Build in the 2nd slide pad, extra shoulder buttons, and make both screens a bit bigger; that'd be enough for me.
 
Any one else think that Nintendo has been heavily breathing Agile software development principles of late?

The recent 3DS boom reminded me of this article:

I don't mind an 3DS XL I'm sure that 3D LCD screen has a larger size they can go with

for those who say it won't happen this year based on WiiU, you are still missing the point focusing on WiiU this year does not change anything for the 3DS... cycle pad pro screams that they made a mistake that needs fixing... while Nintendo is busy fixing every possible little thing about the 3DS they might as well drop the new version there are still many gamers sitting on the fence waiting for it who will cave in by this holiday season only to be seriously pissed next year to find a new one is coming. Get it over with there is a major fight coming next year


3DS revision this year is the best move... Not 2013 because that will be the year that the WiiU will truly need major focus to fight off PS4/720

Might as well do it now and tie it in closely with WiiU so they have nice tie ins going into next year, and that will leave them with enough room to fight for the WiiU when SONY/MS drop the big guns aimed at sinking the WiiU

Nintendo needs to learn how to balance both platforms at the same time and do a better job of it than they have shown with the end of the Wii life cycle... as soon as 3DS started failing they forgot the Wii had a few more years to float through before WiiU - They cannot keep dropping focus of one platform ignoring it to market the other, they need to learn how to do this better as an ecosystem

My belief is where the 3DS goes the WiiU follows down the same path... If the WiiU get half the fighting energy that Nintendo gave the 3DS to save it we are in for one of the best home console experiences ever... For them to get lazy about the 3DS now would be a bad sign that WiiU could also get ignored down the line

Patches, DLC, increasing commitment to delivering digital downloads, Nintendo Direct. It's also about dropping things that don't deliver value as needs change.

I believe we're beginning to enter an era where Nintendo will largely become self-sufficient to produce quality games and other products in a timely manner. Most of that isn't just a matter of increasing the headcount, but also enforcing a good development culture.

I appreciate straightforward console names

DS - short for "dual screen"
3DS - It's a 3D, dual screen handheld.
GameCube - It is cube-shaped. It plays games.
PlayStation - station for playing things--games, music, and movies.

Further from that, you have the "Game Boy" line, which was a clear dig at Sony's "Walkman". The "Wii" references the emphasis on multiplayer.
And the phallic controller.

Wii U is a bit confusing, because like the DSi, it SOUNDS like an enhanced Wii instead of an entirely new system. I'm more concerned about the shape of the console unit than the name--as long as the main console LOOKS different enough from the Wii, they can put that on the box as well as the controller to emphasize the fact that you're buying new hardware.

And we still have mandatory friend codes that both people have to enter as well as no online account. Plus they didn't bring the one thing Wii had over the competition to the eShop (gifting). :/

We know online accounts are coming (both for the 3DS and the Wii U) and friend codes will likely go away with the Wii U.

Agile is also about prioritizing the most important functions and value of a product and deliver it in a timely manner, and then iterating over it. Think like how Apple made their products -- not feature rich, but getting the main points done well and then putting the rest of the stuff in over the next cycles.

So uhhh... would that be... well... being open to change then?

Also I think you've lost the context of the original article, as that has to do with Nintendo hiring developers and artists who are open to change as it pertains to game development. Not the company as a whole being open to change.

No, we don't. It's a reasonable guess, but that's being based on the ability to buy via smartphone or the internet which could just as easily be done via QR codes. I'll believe it when I see it or at least when there's some definitive evidence.

I don't think Nintendo has gotten the main points down, and even Apple isn't a decade behind in anything. Just my opinion, though.

By "online", I mean not tied to the console. I still haven't seen anything to indicate that anything has changed from how 3DS is now.
 
am I the only one that wants Fatal Frame WiiU?

have yet to play anything from this series but the videos I've seen on youtube but Nintendo seem to have had it exclude for a full generation now right?

Guesses on how big the HDD will be in the Wii U?

I was thinking about this last night and I would hope it's 250g, but I could see them putting in a HDD that's less than 100g.

It won't have one, at least not one usable by the players. You'll need to be an external.
