I'm more surprised they are able to keep people quiet about any and all games they may be making for the console.

Though with this latest Ubisoft news, I believe we now know more of their games for the Wii (Killer Freaks, Ghost Recon Online, Assassin's Creed and possibly the MMO) than we do of Nintendo's.

Pikmin
Smash Bros.
Mario Platformer
New Super Mario Bros. Mii (probably)

Eh, about equal

Cancel your game Ubisoft, BurntPork doesnt care!.

They better!

Come on guy. Ubisoft puts nothing but shit on PC and Nintendo systems, and at the rare times they accidentally start making something good on a Nintendo system, it gets shifted to non-Nintendo systems. You guys are morons if you still trust them at this point. Just expect the worst. If this game is for Wii U, it's being handled by a C-team full of fresh college graduates with little-to-no guidance from veteran devs. Ubisoft will never put real effort into a game for a Nintendo game unless Nintendo makes them. This game will suck, Ghost Recon Online will suck, Killer Freaks will REALLY suck, and the Wii U version of AC3 will easily be the worst version (unless Ubisoft makes a PC version). Then, after they flop, they'll only put Just Dance and shovelware on Wii U.

I enjoy the Rabbids series
And think Red Steel 2 is awesome.

I don't get why'd you be mad at a developer supporting Nintendo. Especially, one that was able to actually find success on the Wii with the Rabbids series and Just Dance.

Perhaps, nothing will come of these titles, but one could be a major hit.

*Shrugs*

Solution:
Do not buy their games, BP.

I would love a Red Steel 3, as I liked RS2 a lot.
But I ascertain from your comments that you are not going to buy a WiiU either...

I was encouraged by a recent B3D discussion to a little searching and came across this.

http://www.renesas.com/press/news/2010/news20101209b.jsp

Renesas Electronics Corporation (TSE: 6723), a premier provider of advanced semiconductor solutions, today announced the development of a basic structure for embedded DRAM (eDRAM) highly compatible with standard logic circuit design assets (IP: intellectual property) of the next generation system LSIs at the 28-nanometer (nm) node and beyond.

...

Key features of the newly developed technology:

(1) By embedding the cylindrical capacitors in the interconnect layer instead of forming a layer independent of the interconnect layer, this new technology obviates the need for the long bypass contacts that were formed between the logic area transistors and the interconnect layer. The parasitic capacitance and parasitic resistance due to the bypass contacts is reduced, thus preventing degradation of logic circuit performance. As a result, it is now possible to design eDRAM even at the 28-nm node and beyond using IP developed for use in standard 28-nm node CMOS logic.

This press release was almost a year ago to the day. This is interesting because Renesas and NEC formally merged last year and important if we want to believe there's a possibility that the GPU could be 28nm.

I'm really warming up to the idea of buying a Wii U at launch.

I think it's a combination of Skyward Sword, Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 giving me confidence in Nintendo continuing to be the highest class developers in the world, the fact that two screen play really does seem to be innovative and I think will see more tangible benefits than motion control has and also the fact that it'll probably be good value for money now that Nintendo have gone through the 3DS experience.

E3 2011 will ultimately be the decider but it just seems like the stars are aligning.

well almost certainly day 1 here, but I'm curious about what Nintendo games would be out at launch? Zelda will be a while off, Super Mario/Mario Kart just been done on 3DS but maybe ready for home launch? Or will they fob us off with a few HD remakes?

I think the big launch titles will probably be New Super Mario Bros. Mii and Wii U Sports.

Monster Games could certainly be making a racing game for the launch of the system and I'm hopeful that it's either a new IP or something like F-Zero. Excite Truck is fun but new games sell systems, not sequels to games that sell just OK.

A new WarioWare would be great too but I don't know what's going on with that series at the moment.. Nintendo seem to have rested it indefinitely?

A compilation of the Wii Play-like titles we saw at E3 is also pretty likely.

I don't think Mario Kart will be seen for a while considering Nintendo needed Retro to help them finish the 3DS version by the end of the year. They'll probably have had a small team working on it after Nintendogs was finished but it wouldn't have gotten very far, it's all probably been engine work/brainstorming. So I'd guess two years from now for Mario Kart (Christmas 2013/first half 2014).

Zelda is going to be on a 3 year cycle if the director of Skyward Sword gets his way. It's also interesting to note that during Nintendo's E3 press conference this year, Miyamoto stated something along the lines of "Skyward Sword is coming this year! Yes it's finally finished!" and I take his word as literal in this case. I think that it was finished by E3 and work on Wii U Zelda is well under way. Zelda should be out for Wii U in time for the holiday season 2014 which would be the Wii U's 3rd Christmas (Skyward Sword came during Wii's 6th Christmas) and during its second FULL YEAR.

Super Mario 3D is an interesting one because EAD Tokyo Group #2 headed by Koizumi have developed both Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Super Mario 3D Land and Koizumi has stated that he is making the next 3D Mario for the Wii U. This means that most likely its the Super Mario 3D Land team that will be on that game and so won't have begun development all that long ago. I AM of the opinion however that Nintendo held back some games (including Mario 3D) for third parties (which backfired) and so development for Mario 3D Wii U is well under way and I'd say targeted for release Christmas 2013.

You can look at other major franchises in the same way. Animal Crossing will probably be 2015 as the 3DS version hasn't even been unveiled properly yet. Paper Mario will probably be 2014, Super Smash Bros will probably be 2014 depending on how they manage the 3DS version (knowing Sakurai it could certainly slip to 2015).

Retro Studio's will now be moving Mario Kart team members back to working on their new Wii U title as well. But obviously that won't be a launch title.

What's the performance advantage of the smaller mfg. process, besides lower power consumption and heat production?
It allows more chip to fit in the same package, and/or run it at higher clockspeeds for the same power consumption targets. Die shrink itself doesn't do anything. It's that it allows more room for more power.

At 28nm, a chip will take up half the surface area as a 40nm chip. Suppose a GPU exists out of only shader processors , the Wii U could have 640 SPUs (HD4770) on 40nm and 1280 SPUs (HD6930) on 28nm, and the chips would be equal in size, roughly equal in power usage, value of silicon, and complexity to build onto a motherboard. Of course there's much more to a chip than just shaders, but die shrinks are a good thing.

A serious disadvantage is that new smaller production nodes often are not as well controlled, and could lead to shortages and higher prices. Given the Wii U will probably start production somewhere around April/May in order to have a proper stock, it's pretty much impossible for Nintendo to use 28nm with the yield they need for it.

Nintendo brought back the Excite series, Punchout, etc out of their vault for the Wii.
What old franchises could they bring back for the WiiU ?
Taking into account: Motion Controls, the Tablet and HD graphics.

F-Zero and Pikmin and Mario Paint are obvious ones I think and we know Pikmin is coming.

Is it sad that I consider Pikmin a franchise from Nintendo's vault?

Never heard of Star Tropics before joining GAF, but it has the potential to bring an Uncharted-like (although the setting isn't very Indiana Jonesy) game to the Wii U. Retro could do it. Doubt it's going to happen.

The following links represent a good place to start.

The top ten most obscure Nintendo characters

Forgotten Nintendo franchises

Four Nintendo franchises in need of revival

My top picks would be Ice Climbers, Mach Rider and Wrecking Crew from the older games, and Custom Robo, Chibi Robo and Geist from the newer ones. A new Odama would be great too, but that one is probably the least likely of getting a sequel.

At launch I would like from Nintendo (pretty safe bets)

Some kind of Wii Sports type mini game collection.
Pikmin
New Super Mario WiiU

That would do me.

A new Animal Crossing would get my wife more excited about the WiiU release than me, mind you.

Nintendo fans will buy this system regardless. If they really want a chunk back of the PS360 crowd, they need to have something compelling at launch from a 3rd party dev. They will have time until the next XBox and PS4 to convince those gamers, so they have a limited window to make an impact. Obviously they can try to get those gamers aboard over the entire lifespan of the system, but i'd think strategically, during launch would be the best time to do this, seeing that the PS360 owners may be more prone to check out something new after all those years, especially if the software is there and the specs offer an upgrade over their current console(s). So i think they should have a balanced software line-up between first and third party games. And maybe not come out guns blazing with first party titles, but a line-up somewhat in function of 3rd party offerings... Assuming they have compelling 3rd party games at launch.

768MB of eDRAM?!

They'll just put out Ridge Racer U and Catz Babyz

Kinda Off topic but seems like all the tech guys are here :p Say that a developer decided to ignore the 3d on the 3ds. Could they use more of the systems power towards making it look better? Or does the 3d actually not require that much power
This is something games do now, by doing things like increasing the frame rate or adding anti-aliasing when 3D isn't used.
Well, it has been 10 years since the first game...
And 7 since the most recent, Wii ports aside. Pikmin has been gone from consoles as long as Zelda was before OOT or Metroid was before Prime.

Pikmin 3 to be as good as OOT and Metroid Prime... CONFIRMED.

I definitely agree about the disadvantage, but since they don't use TSMC or GF I wouldn't say it's pretty much impossible either. With them using NEC it's almost like they have a dedicated fab provider since their order should be more than large enough to gain priority. And with that year-old press release being from them about eDRAM for 28nm LSIs, that helps support the idea that it's possible. Especially when devs already have the "ugly retail version", yet Nintendo put a chip in there that ran hot enough to freeze the system at least early on. If this is true then the devs probably won't see a real change in the kits till next year since lherre said things are still the same so far. Hypothetically speaking on all this of course.

Interesting thing is if 768mb edram was mentioned about xbox720, then everybody must have believed it :)

Secondly, With WiiU, Nintendo's approach is different than Wii, I think we will be seeing some hardcore as well as casual games by them on launch. Nintendo is always there with some hidden surprises.

Honestly this doesn't really sound so different: Wii had both "hardcore" and "casual" Nintendo titles available on day one, too.

Do you know what would really suck? If Nintendo puts Retro on Mario Kart. Seriously, that would just suck and a waste of Retro's talent. Yeah some fools go crazy over Mario Kart, but even as a Nintendo fan I cannot give two shits about Mario Kart anymore.

Retro, I love you. Keep making real games.

It just hit me that there was something we really haven't discussed thanks to WindYoshi. All Nintendo games need to be fully orchestrated for this console amirite?

Maybe this is exactly WHY Retro would be a great fit for Mario Kart. They'd actually do something fresh with the series, and it would look amazing.

Ughhhhhhhhhhh it needs to be E3 already. I really hope Nintendo blows people away. I can't take anymore disappointments.
