I would kill for Zelda to look like Wind Waker again. Prettiest and most ageless title in that.

Wouldn't mind that either..loved wind waker, with extra power at their disposal now the cel shading and animation would look even more phenomenal.

Lets start bracing for the shitstorm when nintendo changes the design. LOL

I really do hope they go for another semi-relistic style this time around... I loved Wind Wakers visuals, but I don't think it'd suit the new console. Hell, do a 'Wii' and release two if you must. I just can't help but get excited at the idea of a fully HD, super realistic Hyrule, complete with surround sound Navi.

Agreed, but I don't expect them to even talk about a new Zelda next E3. My money would be on a full Pikmin booth, Mario demo, bunch of casual stuff, and maybe a new IP and lots of 3rd party demos.

Hm, there's a little hope inside me that there'll be a little teaser... but I agree, they'll focus on Pikmin/Mario/F-Zero and other neglected franchises. the Wii missed out on a lot of first-party classics. (That said, I would love a new IP...)

The Skyward Sword look is better than anything I could have imagined. Wind Waker does look amazing, but Skyward Sword really hits the spot for me.

Hmmm, I don't know... I imagine the extra power of the machine could deal out some great cel-shaded, stylized graphics, but I'd rather see them work on a "realistic" Zelda. Save the unique art style for Pikmin (clay graphics would be ACE) and Mario (hell, just a thought, cel-shaded Mario?)

Obviously E3 will have tons of new products. But if Nintendo launches Q2 in Japan (and America?). There will have to be some type of significant event beforehand.

Someone make my dream, time-sinking game already!!!

I want to explore worlds, find and spectate civilizations, and discover/document galaxies.
No major setups, tutorials or characters. Drop me in space and give me full control of the inside and outside of my vessel with the touch screen, gyros and buttons, and i'm set.

The two screens would be great for multiple views. Or you could zoom up on specific locations on the smaller one while the bigger, orgasmic vistas are always displayed on the big screen.

They're not going to pull a RE4 on the 360 and PS3 versions. I think I'll wait it out and see what happens with this now that you mention it.

I think he meant straight dev time from beginning to end.

But MM also re-used Ocarina assets like whoa. That won't happen for the next Zelda game.

I'm not sure if Q2 is realistic anymore, I'm now leaning towards Q3 or simply 'holiday 2012'. It's gonna suck for us and the Darksiders II guys but I'm sure Nintendo doesn't want a repeat of what happened with the 3DS. They just can't say: "And we'll roll out the online system in 3 months time!" this time around.

I don't mean time from system launch, but from previous game. Majora's Mask came out about 1.5 years after OOT (in its country of origin) and was able to be so quick because it was reusing a lot of content from that game. A Zelda a year into Wii U's life would be an all-new next-generation game 1.5-2 years after Twilight Princess's release.

funny, how people will never learn it

but I think we will see GCN support again from the third parties.
The only way that will happen is if either Sony or Microsoft dominates the market PS2-style, or the games just don't sell. The market has changed, and devs are going to put games on as many platforms as possible. So long as there's profit to be had and no technical barriers, it'll get support. There will be some games that it won't get due to it being too weak for the dev to deliver the visual experience they want, but that's bout as bad as it'll get.

Third-parties don't have something against Nintendo, and the Wii wasn't supported well simply because games had to be made specifically made for it, but usually didn't sell well enough to justify the time and money spent. If Wii had been able to support current-gen engines, more devs would have supported it. It just wasn't profitable. You can't compare this situation to Wii.

won't have enough hp to do that lol

Wii U needs to get a Zelda before 2015. Wii has been a horrible platform for Zelda fans, with its first and only Zelda title coming out 5 years into the system's life.

Endless Space confirmed.

That space game is the kind of thing they should be working on to make NASA and space popular for the kids again.

Ah I get you now. Was basically saying there won't be a Zelda anytime soon, for the very reasons you posted. I wasn't saying there will be a new title after a year, but if anyone thinks there would be, they're stupid. (But remember that the WiiU launches in about a year, I'd say, and SS has been finished for about 2 months).

Fair point. But the fact of the matter is that Nintendo has again put themselves in a situation where they have nothing to release for an entire year. What would make more sense is for them to respect their target release date. Rather than think they could haphazardly release those projects with minimum effort.

EA: Wii U can do "anything" PS3, 360 can

Newly received dev kits have increased EA Sports' belief that Wii U can do "anything" that PS3 and Xbox 360 can do, vice president Andrew Wilson informed Eurogamer.

"The short answer is yes [we have a better idea of Wii U's power]; the longer answer is not quite," said Wilson.

"As every new piece of hardware and every new development library comes through we get a greater understanding of the power. With our early research we had been very happy with the output of the box and we expect that that will only go up moving forward.

"There are added challenges for us as developers when you think about rendering on two screens and what that might mean, but we're looking forward to that challenge.

"It's still moving," he added, "but I think we'll be able to do anything that we can do on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on the Wii U."

The Wii U will be released, officially, after April 2012. Unofficially, Eurogamer can narrow that date to after August, as Darksiders II is a confirmed Wii U launch title, and still over a year away.

Xbox 360 launched in late 2005, and PS3 launched in late 2006 (March 2007 in Europe). More than five years on, can Wii U not go beyond what PS3 and 360 are capable of?

"I think that's our hope," answered Wilson, "but again we're still in the early stages."

A large question lingers around what the online capabilities of Wii U will be. Wilson wouldn't say whether new dev kits reveal more online Wii U functionality, but did highlight an "openness and willingness" by Nintendo to listen to their developer and publisher partners.

There are people at EA "under very strict NDAs" that are working those online Wii U systems out with Nintendo.

"[Online is] something that we're working very closely with Nintendo on," said Wilson. "We are highlighting to them what we believe are the most important elements to that infrastructure to deliver a connected experience that we think is the future of gaming.

"They have demonstrated an openness and willingness to work with us and work with developers that I think will only land us in a positive place.

"We're working through the development with them now," he added. "We have a series of people who are under very strict NDAs as you can imagine, operating with them, building that system out."

FIFA 13 will likely be a Wii U launch title, but could be separated, in terms of release date, from the other FIFA 13 SKUs. "The timing of that VIP party [Wii U launch] is largely dependent on Nintendo," said Wilson, "which we're waiting to hear like everyone.

"We're preparing development and we will make a judgement-call on the timing of that and how it relates to the other platforms once they have a better idea of when they're launching."

Wilson said development of FIFA 13 on Wii U has not begun.

"Not yet," Wilson remarked. "We are in pre-production for everything on FIFA, so we have our long-lead team thinking about Kinect ... Wii U ... What FIFA looks like on PS3, PC, Xbox 360 in general. But the core team is still finaling FIFA 12. So it's very much an early pre-production ideation phase right now."

This sounds very similar to what Nintendo was referring to about the current development of Wii U's online system. Sounds promising to me.

I'm going to make a prediction. Wii U will have launched by this time next year. Autumn conference for Nintendo will unveil first party games and a general launch lineup. Then, come E3, the final details will be firmly hammered into place, and some future games will be revealed, giving momentum for a worldwide, mid-June launch.

BELIEVE.

First of all, you mean Skyward Sword. Secondly: That is what most people seem to not understand about Nintendo. EAD probably has enough material and ideas for three or four full Zelda-games. The reason why we have to wait 4-5 years typically is that the lead designers have to go through a lot of concepts and vision stuff, before settling on the one definitive direction of the game. If Nintendo decides to make Zelda Wii U a classic Zelda-experience, maybe improving upon SS´s formula, they could use these 2 years for creating content. And after establishing the Zelda-fanbase with that first Wii U-Zelda, they had enough HD-assets to follow up with a more creative Zelda-game two years afterwards, MM-style.

It all comes down to Nintendo´s plans. They won´t use the Metroid-franchise for establishing the hardcore-crowd on the Wii U, and a Mario-game won´t do that either. It´s going to be a Zelda-game or an entirely new franchise.

So even EA is still not quite aware of how strong the Wii U will end up being since its still too early to tell. At least Nintendo's actually reaching out to third-parties to in attempt to offer a better online service.

Exactly.

Here's what I've noticed about this board, and I'm sure this is common elsewhere, but the following surprises me to some extent no matter how many generations I've seen go by:

I am genuinely excited to see what each of the three platform manufacturers has planned for next generation. Whatever beef I have had with MS over this generation and their botching of the 360 hardware is done. I want to see Sony, MS, and Nintendo coming out with new things - features and functions that help to define gaming for a new era rather than keep us eclipsed within tired and old standards. I've seen more or less what Nintendo has in mind, outside of hardware power and online, and I'm cool with it. Sony has done some smart things with the Vita, so I'm interested in what the PS4 is like. And MS? After the left-field nature of Kinect (regardless of anyone's feelings about it), they're up to bat as well.

What I don't get... and what bothers me incessantly because it seems so self-destructive and foolish... are people who blatantly write off any of these companies without knowing anything about what they're doing or, even more idiotic, want each one to create something roughly similar.

Why would anyone want the three of them to make roughly the same system? I don't get it. Why are comments from 3rd parties about the PS4 and 720 trying to do interesting things met with disdain and concern about something as linear as raw brute power? Am I one of the few who sees new generations as a reset? As an opportunity to see things redefined in interesting and new ways regardless of which company does it the best or most in tune with my personal fascinations?

All the vitriol and venom towards the Wii U has made me wonder about this, and it's just absolutely foolish and narrow-sighted behavior. And I'm sure it swings multiple ways - there are likely Nintendo fans who don't give a damn what Sony or MS are going to do, but I don't get those people either.

I believe the ms and sony have realised this as well, and the prevailing wind in the industry, judging from what many industry heads are saying is that next gen is going to be less about power upgrade. More creativity is always a good thing.

Maybe it's the pessimist in me, but that doesn't sound promising at all.

"Hey, this new system can do everything the systems released 6 years ago can!" Here's hoping they don't use that as the sales pitch :/

I still think it will be successful and I've waited for HD Mario/Zelda/DK for years.

I think some do it because that's the only standard they feel they have to make the comparison. I would assume the same will happen once Sony and MS release their new consoles as well.

I do like what he said about the online and the work that is going on with it. Sounds like Nintendo is doing more than just taking input from what other devs want and instead they are helping them in some form with the process of building the system.

I'm warming towards the Wii U. If the Wii U achieves some sort of parity with the competition - that's the same games even if they're not quite as pretty - and it's cheaper, then I'm interested.

Despite the hyperbole I don't see the new Xbox outperforming high end current PCs by any massive margin, and I think it'll be closer in terms of real world performance than some seem to think. More like or PS2 vs Xbox - and most people were fine with PS2 graphics back then.

This is pure conjecture of course but I'm going to wait and see, and try to ignore the exaggerated videos MS and Sony are bound to come out with. Certainly if it's the right price I might as well enjoy it for the year or so before the competition is likely to release. After all my favourite console is still the Dreamcast, so that approach worked out well for me there.

Nintendo's in house games would have to quite far along for this to be the case. Not to mention the hardware is still 'evolving' according to third parties so if they want to hit the june date they'll need the final design ready by October and start producing systems for launch. Foxconn leaked to IGN that the first Wii U's were scheduled to ship in October and they speculated about a fall 2011 launch back then but I hardly believe that is the case anymore. Nintendo has also put the Wii U back in the vault, third parties can't show footage and they won't bring it to GamesCom. The chances of the Wii U appearing at TGS are also slim.

Nintendo will mostly put all their resources behind 3DS and Wii this holiday season and they don't want to nuke the Wii just yet or hurt the already weak 3DS even more. I could see them extend the 3DS-only push well into 2012 with all those delayed third party games. Maybe there's a redesign coming soon and the third parties delayed their games to take advantage of that? As the weeks go by the chances of an early 2012 launch decrease. By June last year we already knew a lot about the 3DS and the system was shown in both Europe and the US. As of now Wii U has not even been shown behind closed doors in Europe.

I think Nintendo will give us more info on when we can expect the Wii U sometime soon but I believe it'll be a statement that pushes it back further into 2012.

I really did not know what to make of the Wii U when it first appeared on-screen at Nintendo's press conference, but then I warmed up to it too.
When I saw the bird/nature demo and then the Zelda demo, I became more confident it would be a great system to have and I will be there on day one.

They aren't putting any real development into the Wii, and haven't been for a while. Nintendo's teams are either on 3DS games or on Wii U. With how a lot of the 3DS games are outsourced or from new/smaller studios, you can bet most are on Wii U at the moment.

The only big games that I know of still coming to Wii are Skyward Sword and Dragon Quest X. All of Nintendo's 1st and 3rd party developers have to have been working on Wii U games for awhile now, obviously.

the controller is going to be expensive as hell and they don't want to pull a PS3 with the pricing of the Wii U. That's why they are probably going to be a little conservative when it comes to the horsepower. Why do some people still not understand this?
