Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

I’ve had a vision.

Reggie walks up to the stage and speaks. Words of third party are muttered and first party mentioned. And then the lights dim. A diagonal line crosses the screen. And the music plays. A pair of legs begins to walk on the upper side. And on the bottom… fucken legos? NO! Lego people! The footage that follows switches between the two. Realistic looking people switching back and forth with Lego people. On the road, in the air, havoc plagues their cities. Destruction and mayhem, oh my! An M and E remain on screen as the titles Grand Theft Auto V and LEGO City Stories fade in and out above their respective letters.

“Fun for the family, or just yourself, we have it all, on Wii U”

Presumably the MT framework, variants of which seem to run on everything, will run on the Wii U as well. So I don't think Dragon's Dogma port to the Wii U would be that surprising - considering the development budget they probably need it on as many platforms as possible.

Any engine that can run on the PS3 and 360 will of course run on the Wii U.

And if Capcom is expecting 10 million sales for the game, they pretty much have no choice but to put DD on the U.

I hope that Capcom's relationship has taken a turn for the better, but won't buy it until I see a decent console game on the shelf from them. Talk is great, and handheld support is lovely, but aside from a few sparse titles on the Wii, I don't get where all of this "Nintendo and Capcom, sittin' in a tree" outlook is coming from.

Starting with TvsC and MHTri, you could tell that Nintendo was really pushing Capcom for support.
And that manifested it self fairly large on the 3DS so far.
I can't see it not carrying over the the Wii U, but we'll see.

I see those titles, but they don't translate into faith on the console scene for me.

It's just me being bitter and jaded at them for their console bullshit over the past few years. I still adored Zack & Wiki.

That would be awesome.

This would never happen, but lol.

Imagine.

E3 2012.

On stage... Mr Iwata.

"I have one last thing to show you today."

The lights fades and on the big screen the ending from Metroid Prime 3 with new graphics in 1080p with the text:

The saga continues. Coming 2013 exclusively on the Wii U.

Retro Studios logo fades in and out.

Believe!

I've come to accept Wii U as a name, but damn, that logo is terrible... and I guess, part of why I disliked the name in the first place

chzNV.jpg

That looks like a Wii with a not-too-hot add-on. They should at least give it a new font, and more importantly: a new colour... the same grey Wii logo just isn't enticing. Any customer potentially allured by the Wii brand will be even more interested if it seems FRESH!

The console design is almost offensively boring. Nintendo needs to make the customers infatuated with the device. The last thing they want to do is make people consider whether or not they actually need the Wii U. And the more it seems like a hot new thing, the less that consideration comes into play

The logo still makes me think of the Vitality Sensor:

WiiVitalitySensor.jpg

Grandpa, it's nap time. Put this on your finger while I play Resident Evil U.

Or they could have a vitality type sensor on the back/grips of the Wii U controller and Nunchuck.

They should do something like that. Reggie did something similar I think it was 3 years ago when Metroid Other M was announced at the end

Alright - I did a quick summary of what happened in April 2006. It's a good idea to keep in mind for reference when thinking about how Nintendo conducts their information campaign during these time periods.

So.. let's walk down memory lane..

April 2006 Revolution News Highlights:
- rumored Bob Ross Game
- Twilight Princess: not known yet, but rumors discussing two versions were bandied-about
- Tony Hawk: Downhill Jam was rumored to be for launch
- Red Steel (including screenshots, interviews, and magazine scans)
- on the 15th, Matt from IGN revealed that Metroid Prime 3 would be playable at E3
- the first rumor of Sega releasing Nights on Revolution surfaced late in the month
- rumor of a Suda51/Grasshopper game to be unveiled at E3
- Dragon Ball Z Tenkaichi 2 revealed to be a Revolution game
- THQ revealed that they were bringing two Nickelodeon titles to the Revolution
- first rumors of the nunchuck having some motion-sensing feature(s)
- Elebits confirmed
- Skatto Golf Pangya Revolution
- Sega formally announces Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz
- Activision formally announces Marvel: Ultimate Alliance for Revolution
- on April 28, 2006: the Revolution's name was changed to Wii!

If Nintendo follows the Wii information release model, it looks like April is going to be a huge month for us here in the thread. =)

reasonable HYPE!

One MAJOR thing though. E3 was in May that year. Wasn't the name reveal just a few days or so before the press conference?

Lifting some NDAs in late March would make sense, though. Fiscal years end, companies will want to tell their shareholders about future opportunities. Probably even more true for suppliers.

Did you give input on Flipper 2.0?

"We don't want to compete with Nintendo's titles" was, essentially, used twice, wasn't it? How 'bout replacing one of them with "I hurt my foot"? :D

Can do! I'll take suggestions.

(although they do say it in more ways than one.. hehe..)

Taa-daa!

Oh man, we have some reputation around here lol :D

So, to sum up: pretentious, smell cheese, reveal things, loose every wars, want a worldwide virtual stars status, what else ? :p

Being from New Orleans, I'm kinda required to love the French. For what it's worth..

My mum's French. Her cooking is amazing.

Concerning the recently trademarked "The Last Ranger"

I'm sorry but it appears it won't be a fantasized J-RPG nor a dreamed of Mach Rider revival for Wii U. A contact told me that when you complete Rolling Western on 3DS and respect some parameters (maybe beating a special boss, or reach an amount of gold, i don't know), it hints toward a sequel named The Last Ranger. I think i've seen someone suggesting that this new trademark could be that, but it was just a guess without data to proof it from what i remember. If this information is true, it's a confirmation. I didn't saw it while reading all the thread pages, or on the dedicated topics.

I haven't witnessed this myself so don't know if it's true, it would be cool if someone with this game could check that.

If it's the case, then, The Last Ranger could simply be a sequel on 3DS, still on Eshop, maybe the first game was an appetizer to probe the market and the 2 will be available on retail, or it could be a future installment of this franchise on Wii U via the Nintendo Network (perhaps a double launch, for handled and home system), or we can even imagine a more ambitious action/tower-defense shipped in box for the platform.

Great detective work, although a big disappointment about the name.

This special remote would be nice. I hope Nintendo includes the remote & nunchuck combo in the package. Then games can easily be made without using the pad for main control, and it would be great for shooters, since it can also be more graphically intensive.

How much does a remote & nunchuck actually cost Nintendo?

Capcom gave Wii more games than almost any other 3rd party on Wii, and some top-tier efforts, no less. And they were rewarded by selling more than most 3rd-party offerings, as well. Based on sales of TatsuCap alone, they likely know there's a fighting game market for the console, and considering those are their big-ticket sellers on consoles right now, you KNOW they're eager.

It certainly makes more sense than it being based on the survivalist post-apocalyptic novel from the 1980s.

I guess this means I have to play Rolling Western then. Right after I'm done with Icarus.

Oh yeah i almost forgot about the "we are all 3 stars on Michelin Guide chefs and cook 3 time a day intricate meal with 150€ worth of ingredients".

Lol. I'm surprised after smoking all those Gauloise cigarettes you can taste anything at all.

Being from New Orleans, I'm kinda required to love the French. For what it's worth..

I loved New Orleans, the French Quarter, the Cajun culture, the atmosphere, jazz played on coffee terraces, it was amazing, i hope the city is getting better since Katrina.

"I am IdeaMan and i approve this message". It could be so refreshing and full of, what Hylian use to say... Juicy™ applications for the padlet :D

That doesn't seem to make any sense, as The Last Ranger has a Japanese title as well (unlike Rolling Western), and that title doesn't seem to fit the Rolling Western IP at all. The Japanese title is "Saigo no Yojimbo" - "The Last Bodyguard".

Oh, most definitely. There are many areas of the city that didn't flood (and have never flooded in the history of the city), but are still using this as an opportunity to spruce things up. It's a pretty exciting time.

From looking at a release list, I guess you're right. I'm too quick to lump 'em in with some of the bums of the industry, when they have provided some really memorable experiences this generation.

This is why i said "it seems", "if it's true", etc., and asked for someone that have Rolling Western to verify this :)
It appears that after finishing all the game's levels and respecting some parameters (maybe beating a special boss, or reach an amount of gold, i don't know), it hints toward a sequel, The Last Ranger would be the sub-title of a Rolling Western 2.

Big Grain Of Salt until someone with the game can confirm this by completing it that way.

EDIT: Yeah, after some searches on google, it could be true, but no video are available, it will be cool if someone could beat the game and capture this sequence indicating that The Last Ranger is Rolling Western 2.

Hm, how about....

Don't like to wash
Smell of garlic
Thinks everyone should speak French as the default international language
Gastronomic fascists
Travel everywhere on a bicycle with a ring of garlic around your neck
No respect for authority
Like to go on strike at the drop of a hat
Angst ridden philosophers

Well you did ask! :P

Oh and..... great lovers! :)
