Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

Yeah, I'm not really a fan of how DKCR looks. It has it's moments, but over all it's pretty blah.

About the only thing I wish Retro did from a looks perspective for DKCR was to implement the fur that Jungle Beat did for DK and various other elements in that game. Otherwise, DKCR's art design desecrates the renders and art direction of the SNES Country games. It's like no contest at all.

Wii U footage is still NDA'd. I am positive those NDAs have not expired yet.

It seems incredibly unlikely (though I guess not 100% impossible) that someone fucked up and released Wii U screenshots.

I suspect that third parties, citing HD development costs, will go to the $60 price point, and that Nintendo will feel pressured into following suit. If Nintendo were to undercut them at $50, they'd whine to no end about how they have no chance competing against Nintendo titles that have much more prestige and a smaller pricetag.

That's pretty much what I figured.

Are we seriously still doing that "Retro can only produce this or disappointed total" thing? =/

Haha, awesome. The NDA situation sounds bonkers but natural with regards to transitioning gens and Nintendo's own secrecy. Potentially getting a glimpse at what's coming because someone didn't realize what was going on though? That makes for a nice gift in the dry news season.

What are you guys going on about? DKCR looked fantastic and had great visual moments such as this:

Which would make that the single worst thing so far about next gen. I still need to go and buy SMG2 but I'm sure it's still $50. You can't wait Nintendo out. I saw SMB3 for $60 at target. :p

Like I said, I think we'll know if that screenshot was an unintentional leak later tonight :-)

Well, according to three awesome Metroid games, one awesome Donkey Kong game and tha majority (?) of the tracks in Mario Kart 7, we can pretty safely assume that Retro can do pretty much anything with any IP and it'll be awesome (but probably only as long as Nintendo is watching behind their backs. Like they did with Rare).

But yeah, I'm getting kinda annoyed by it too.
Retro is doing something, yes.
It's very possibly for the Wii U, yes.
We don't know, though, WHAT it is.

We know that, WHATEVER Retro is making, it's gonna be awesome and it'll be praised by gamers and critics alike. So just enjoy it. It's like christmas. You don't open your presents BEFORE christmas, do you?
(or christmas eve, depending on how you celebrate it).

The silhouette levels were very nice, but everything else was quite generic looking. It was better than NSMBW though.

Still, hand-drawn graphics is the way to go for side-scrolling games.

RETRO should make either
  • a) A new FPS with a cool gameplay mechanic and plot or
  • b) Metroid Prime 4.

And nothing else.

Seriously.

Plus, both these things fit in with the whole "something everyone wants us to do" thing.

I say its a CGI cut-scene as there is no hud on the screen.

Since Darksiders II is expected to be released by the end of June (on the 26th to be precise), I wonder how long excitement for the title can be sustained for it to be relevant on Wii U as well. If Wii U launches in September, will it make for people to purchase this game for that format?

I also wonder if the Limited Edition, which comes with content pack Argul’s Tomb for free, will be made available for Wii U. That if anything could spur people to purchase Wii U, but still a gap of two or three months between versions of Xbox 360, PS3, PC and Wii U wouldn't really make sense.
