Wii U Spotted At CES

Nintendo will especially be looking at getting those CoD sales from the 360, as well as killing any Halo buzz.

Not gonna happen, unless the WiiU launches with it's own Halo/COD killer day one. Which seems unlikely.

And even if COD launches on WiiU simultaneously, it's not going to sway the large majority of people who'd pay $60 for COD rather than $400+ for a new console/COD for a few extra features.

Of course not a large majority who already have console.
It will sway the people considering buying a 360 (or PS3 for that matter) for CoD.

And it might get a portion of those with a current console,
to buy into next gen with the WiiU, instead of waiting for two years for a Xbox3/PS4.

I think Nintendo wanted to develop a controller that would keep people from throwing it this time around.

I don't know why that made me laugh as hard as I did.

Now that it seems that Sony and MS wont be showing off a new console this E3.
I can see why Nintendo, via Reggie, is calling 2012 the year of the WiiU.

But it can't really be much of a year, if it launches at the end of the year.
I've been predicting a November launch, but I got a feeling now they might plan
an earlier launch to dominate Xmas sales. Maybe as early as September, hell, they might even launch it around E3.

I didn't put much thought into the "year of the Wii U" as I always assumed that the Wii U would launch in November. If Nintendo somehow manages to launch the Wii U in September or earlier, with both great launch titles and a slew of big releases into the holiday season, Nintendo would attract a lot of consumers.

repulsive as my shit. Chick on the left it 10 times more natural, charming and attractive that that potentially lady boy. imo

wow....

The Reggie/Geoff interplay is actually pretty fun in these, and the beginning of the interview I watched actually was informative. For example, Reggie clearly didn't rule out pre-e3 info on Wii U, and gave a launch swindow of E3 till end of the year. Sure we really knew that, but it still narrows it down.

And it was funny when Reggie joked that he'd have plugged it in and played some games if spiketv had provided electricity.

Retro's Zelda....as a FPS.

Good luck with taking CoD sales away from a console where people have built up large friends lists, and like the online setup.

So, Eliza's body is ready for Reggie? That's her on the right, correct? Who's the chick on the left? She got all dressed up for Reggie, talks about yoga and stretching for a wii. Go for it Reggie.

Edit: what, she's dating rick fox? Boooo

I'm pretty sure 2012 being the year of Wii U implies that there will be a lot of information revealed, which is a given.

That's still such a shame about the actual console. I know it's not a big deal but really feels like a step backwards from the Wii design. Wii U just looks like a fat HD DVD external drive.

Some much better video demos in that clip. I liked that there are simple 2-player games on the uMote only, ala iPad, that will be a hit no doubt.

I can't watch Reggie for any length of time though, that dude is like a walking sleeping pill.

the more I look at this thing in reality, the more it strikes me as a truly terrible idea. i'm sure there are some games where that controller does cool things, but how can that possibly justify the huge expense that producing the thing is? they'd be better off making a game console that could tether itself to your smartphone

...What?

No way man, Reggie's the greatest.

He's not a game developer, but not even the execs from the rivals can match his swag

I mean, I know lots of people have fun with the 'My body is ready' and shrug.jpg and whatever, but I still like hearing him doing his exec schtick as well, despite it being 8(!) years old. Glad to see I'm not alone in that, haha.

I think I'm the only person for who the Reggie sheen hasn't worn off yet.

No same here. Guy has charisma, and it really isn't his fault that he can't say anything without the go ahead from Iwata. He has a great presence not only on stage but in Interviews as well and outside from doing his job, by reapeating PR slogans and pre fabricated statements, he also seems to be a very good sport when it comes to public appearances.

I imagine getting Western devs to cooperate with Nintendo has to be one of the hardest jobs in the industry, and Reggie has to do that

Hopefully with the Wii U there will be less excuses on the developers' part

Damn that Zelda demo looks really, really good, the details in the environment are crazy. And yeah, that real time "google street demo" was pretty awesome, though quite choppy.

The more I watch the Zelda demo.... it screams Nintendo-like with a western influence. maturer tone, Spider crawling past the window, spider crashing through the ceiling, dramatic camera angles, etc. I'm starting to really believe Retro is involved.

. . .
The demo has nothing to do with anything. The Wii U Zelda game probably won't use a single asset or idea from the demo

its using the TP artstyle though...

Potentially not true. Unlike other tech demos, Nintendo has never denied or confirmed if that is an actual Zelda in development. Aunoma wants a new Zelda out soon(er), and Miyamoto has already pointed out Retro being a good fit for the series.

Retro on the other hand started development on a "new" title during development of DKCR. What if they have been working on a Wii U Zelda this whole time, and they created that demo using assets from the project?
