Will BlazBlue Central Fiction receive a dub, or the GGXrd treatment?

Damn it. BB had some of my favorite performances in all of gaming. The story is going to be even more of a slog without the dub to liven it up.

Wow that's BS. I honestly don't know if I can enjoy the game as much if I can't hear my boy terumi hamming it up

Man it's not even like this is an Extend expansion. CF is probably the biggest step forward in a game the series has had. If they aren't doing one for that then it's probably a wrap for any other game getting a dub.

How long would they need to start doing voice work for the game? Assuming it is coming out in December?

Six months seems about accurate. With the English build already in testing, it's safe to say the dub is not happening. Seitz is also a director.

They sure didn't tell the Xrd fans until the game was out.

And I believe the game's already in testing.

I could have sworn I knew before I got the game, and I got the US release day one.

Anyway it makes no difference to me personally but it's too bad you guys are going to lose the dub work you like.

Yeah I know he is the director, just hoping against hope it was possible in 4~ months ><.

Man this is a bummer. I hated the Xrd dub so I was fine with it being absent for Revelator but I really enjoyed the BB dub.

Wow that sucks, Patrick Seitz as Ragna is just as good as Sugita. Not to mention English Hakumen and Jin...ah well, I've come to terms after the original Bang va left.

Edit: Man I'm gonna miss English Hazama :c

Here's the nail in the coffin.

The dub's not happening. Pack it up.

Unfortunate. I guess Guilty Gear set the precedent. Maybe sales weren't too affected by the lack of a dub and since it saves money, why not cut it at that point from a business standpoint?

Another problem I imagine most fighting games run into with dubbing is that the cast by nature has to keep growing bigger each game. That means paying multiple new actors to record voice work each time, not even considering any potential scheduling issues. For a traditional fighting game that's probably not too huge a deal, but Guilty Gear and Blazblue always go overboard on their stories compared to competitors in the genre.

I'm by no means an expert, though. This is all just theoretical.

Patrick Seitz IS Ragna to me. That's saying a lot considering Sugita is one of my favorite Japanese VAs. English Ragna is just that good. It'd be pretty sad if the last part of this story quadrilogy doesn't have an English dub. I was fine with GGXrd not having an English dub since that cast was only around for one game. This, not so much if it doesn't have a dub.

This. Patrick Seitz just adds so much to the character

And it's just not the same without Julie Ann Taylor condescendingly telling me off as Kokonoe

And,Mela Lee's Rachel is incomparable

This WHOMPS

Agreed. They have a great cast, it'd be really disappointing.

Even the anime got dubbed and got most of the cast back despite Funimation being a different company.

It would be extremely disappointing if this new BB game didn't get dubbed.

Maybe it can do the Skullgirls thing of adding voice acting later?

Damn blazblue was one of the bigger reasons for respecting dubs it really has to be the best Japanese to English dub I've ever heard, it'll be sad to see it go :(

Even during the dub they did not translate the Japanese voices but used dubtitles instead. You spend so much on dubbing, yet cant even bother to have a proper translation of the original Japanese text?
Now at least I know the subs will be based on the original.
The story mode made dubbing too costly, when CF features so many characters with their own chapters and extras.
Even popular visual novels did not get this treatment in the West.

This is the BlazBlue game with more lines of text (biggest story mode), I wonder if this is the main problem or simply is a matter of how much this games sale in NA (cost vs profit).

This is the final chapter, though. It deserves a proper sendoff. This is the only JP game I know where every dub VA is at LEAST adequate(excluding new Bang).

I'm not buying Guilty Gear or Blazblue now.

For those not aware, Blazblue since the Deluxe DLC release of BB2 (Blazblue Continuum Shift Extend) have had bizarre issues with their localizations: such as no quality assurance. They've cut corners that I've never seen before outside of games like Zero Wing. At one point, they cut content because they didn't feel like localizing it. They've changed voice actors due to 'scheduling conflicts,' and then have characters with two different voices at once.

I understand that BB and GG are niche games, but after a strong localization with BB1 and BB2, they've been kinda just been screwing with the oveseas releases more and more to the point of being insulting.

Oh, just so everyone knows: While Aksys publishes the games, they don't localize them. Aksyslocalized the first two, then Arc system works switched to some no name discount localizer that no one ever heard of.

On a side note: For everyone who says the dub doesn't matter: If the characters having line don't matter, then why do they have lines at all? Surely Arc Sys could have saved even more money by just having some programmers use grunts and groans. Or maybe just have the sound design use synth effects

At the every least, I actually do enjoy the lines characters spout during fights. For example, Makoto's lines during CSE were amazing! I suppose you can take away the lines as being 'unnecessary', but you can also take away the sprites suppose and just have hit boxes on the screen and it'll be the same.

Wait, there are people who actually PREFER to have eng dubs in a game with anime characters? What?! But... Why?!! I really understand when people ask the opposite (the English dubs of 80% of jrpgs are ridiculous), but planning not to buy the game if it's not eng dubbed is beyond me... O_O

I must say I'm really surprised.

The dub is VERY high quality, and a lot of people consider the dub VAs synonymous with the cast.

Not sure why you're surprised, there are good dubs out there you know.

And the BlazBlue series is one of them.

Why would anybody play GG with a dub anyway when glorious Wakamoto is voicing Johnny?
because I in general hate japanese voice acting, and hate it even more in fighting games where battle voices dont have subtitles so I have no fucking clue what is being said

Besides the whole Hazama situation I actually prefer the English dub. Not a huge fan of japanese VO outside of when I watch anime, and the English cast did a pretty good job from what I played.

Pity it isn't returning, guess I'll skip this one since TMS already made me notice enough that I can't stand audio that I can't understand.

continuum shift features some of the best english va of any game to date. it unfortunately became more lackluster later on as as actors changed

oh this explains quite a lot

While it doesn't bother me because I've stuck with the Japanese voices for various reasons, that's still really unfortunate, it's always nice to have the option for anyone that wants it.

I'm still really looking forward to this game, after skipping the last Extend I'm ready to return to this series.

Oh ok I see. Well in France we don't have often dubbing in JRPG/Japanese games (we had for Blue Dragon and it was AWFUL), and to my ears japanese dubs always sounds better than english (I mean for games with Japanese characters of course).

It's like dubbing in movies, watching an english movie with french dubs doesn't bother me (even if I prefer the original voices), but an asian movie (whatever it's Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Thai, etc) with french or english dubbing is impossible for me since our way to move, our body gestual, etc, is so different than western dubbing doesn't fit at all.

Damn it.

Hard decision. I like ASW, and Blazblue, but the English dub is really important to BB.

Should probably cancel preorder out of principle.

I thought a friend of mine said a dub was good to go back at Momocon, so unless Seitz is playing coy... it's still kind of scary how unconfirmed this is, regardless of whether or not it's happening.

They certainly would NOT be tight-lipped if a dub was in production.

Seitz seems legit out of the loop to me.

If this is true I'm considering skipping this even though I was looking forward to it.

No dub is absolutely fucked.

Blazblue has had a dub since the beginning and removing that now when this is supposed to be the finale game in terms of Ragna's story is fucking stupid.

I'd imagine him playing coy wouldn't fly with AWS. I don't think this is something they'd want to get people riled up over just to say "Gotcha! Just kidding we are dubbing it".

Still getting the game because I really like BB and want to finish Ragna's story. That won't stop me from being extremely sad over the whole thing. I'll be periodically sending tweets to AWS about dubbing until they at least confirm one way or another.

I think for me Story Mode would be unplayable.

I am too used to the English voice actors so much that having to listen to the Japanese ones would completely pull me out of the experience.

After I start playing it I might start feeling the same way. I don't even know what all the characters JAV's sound like since I almost always use english in BB. I've just been really looking forward to this, so I'll have to at least give it a chance. Whether I regret it or not is left to be seen.

The dub was trash anyways, happy i won't hear the trash dub when i play online.

So you are one of those people
