Will Nintendo finally add system wide achievements / trophies to the Switch 2?

Do you think they'll add achievements / trophies to the Switch 2?

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
In my personal opinion, this is one thing that's lacking from the current Switch. Lots of games have their own in-game systems, but that's honestly pretty lame. Being able to see trophies online and compare them with your friends is something that Microsoft and Sony both have had for a few generations now.

What do you think GAF, will Nintendo finally add this? Do you want them to?

I doubt it since they couldn't even be asked to add themes after all this time. They really prioritised a fast & lightweight OS over extra flare/features on switch (lessons learned from the Wii U) and I think that's gonna continue into their next console.

I think they're a little hesitant to add such a feature because of how sweeping it would be. They'd probably rather the games feature that within the terms of each game. Metroid Prime 3 IIRC had a version of this implemented.

If they insert it into the entire scope of the system, it turns into less of a game and more a computer application. I really doubt they're gonna do that, maybe ever.

I kind of like that Nintendo doesn't enforce the kind of busy work that achievements often lead to. I don't think they'll add them because they tend to see the game itself as the trophy.

It's the smart move to add them but I kind of hope not. I hate that achievements/trophies enable shitty checklist game design.

If they integrate social stuff with the new "C" button on the controller, maybe?
There's enough people that enjoy the meta gameplay aspect.

I really wish they would. But I voted No because realistically knowing how Nintendo thinks I don't think they will. Their "kind of do it but do it differently" approach to it has been in-game achievements and that probably works for them.

True, but I'd say 90%+ of the third party games on the Switch already have other versions (console or PC) that have achievements anyway.

They were on the right track with stamps on Wii U. Some games had stamps as achievement unlockables that you could use on Miiverse. Instead of just doing a laundry list of achievements for every game, they should do something unique and interesting.

no, but I could see them making something similar, but different.

like maybe a system where finishing the campaign of a game gets you a Mii costume... or a user icon... or maybe a stamp in your profile page.

I don't think they'll directly emulate any of the existing achievement systems tho.

That would immediately make Nintendo consoles a much more attractive buy for me. This is long overdue.

Some people just want to show how big their arms are at system level… 😂

lol...perhaps for some. I know I just find earning trophies, especially platinums, to be very satisfying personally.

it's crazy how far behind nintendo is
Yes and no. Trophies/achievements are a double edged sword.

When I play Nintendo games my mind doesn't wonder to "meaningful" stats. My playtime is tracked and that's enough. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the pop of achievements but not thinking about them is a welcomed blessing.

I think they will, because it gets some players hooked to the system. "Oh my precious score, i can't switch (Got it? Got it??)".

Even if they do it's going to be Nintendo-fied to the point that you won't care about it.

Just like their voice chat solution.

Most of the Nintendo fans I've seen aren't interested in them, and as a player who also has had Xbox and PlayStation systems, I don't care about them either.

If they do, I hope it's optional and completely missable... I keep it disabled on Steam because I hate the fucking prompt telling me that I should stopped focusing on the epic moment just happening on screen to check the goddamn notification

Are people still interested in Achievements? That gimmick was already annoying when it was introduced in the Xbox360 era.

Nope. Nintendo has had generations to do this and always opted not to. Nintendo sees them as part of the PC/PS/Xbox culture, and they strive to be their own thing. Clearly their hardware sales are not languishing by refusing to implement them, so there is no incentive to add them to their ecosystem.

While you may not have any desire to collect these or care what your gamerscore or trophy count is, achievements/trophies are an important metric that publishers use to gauge how gamers are interacting with their games. If you really love a game, especially one that isn't part of a megahit franchise such as GTA or CoD, one of the best things you can do to show it is to collect all the achievements/trophies and show the publisher you not only bought the game but took the time to do everything in it. The entire reason there are "story achievements/trophies" that unlock purely for playing through the game is for publishers to gauge how many people are completing it and what they took the time to do on the way.

Who gives a shit if theyre necessary....Theyre the only console maker current gen without them and it will be a glaring oversight and pure stubborness if they do nothing again
Actually it will pass as a nothing burger because barely any gamer today, let alone Nintendo gamer, cares about it

Don't these "achievements" harm sales?

Doesn't the trophy hunter waste too much time on a single game, instead of buying more other games?

Never saw the point of the achievements system. Useless system for me and don't see the utility to add them.

I think they'll stay away from it.

In 2009 (my first Xbox) I was sure I would be able to spend these points for purchasing games. When it hadn't worked, my first reaction was "So what's the reason to collect these points at all"?
