Will Starfield be nominated for goty?

I keep seeing a lot of people mentioning BG3, but it will get robbed, not even get nominated.
I would agree if it wasn't for the fact it really made a splash in the way it did both in terms of player count and critical reception. I have a hard time seeing it not getting nominated.

How the narrative has changed in a couple of days, years of hype, game of the year and the generation, the turning point for the Xbox brand, etc... and now it will barely enter the goty, what a change... This is what happens when you inflate a game to such extremes and set expectations that are impossible to meet.

This and delivering pretty medicore game actually.
It started developement in 2015, right? Witcher 3 came out that year which was a game changer in many areas, especially dialogues and it's presentation.
Bethesda looked at it and was like "nah, ceepy talking heads is the way to go".

same goes for ff16 imo.

If Starfield isn't the mind-blowing game we Xbox fans have been waiting for so long, then what future game might it be? I'm tired of waiting for a win
There won't be.

People really didn't listen when Spencer said that Starfield wouldn't change a thing, even of it were to be a 11/10 game, did they?

I dont really get this obsession over GOTY fiasco, If you enjoying Starfield does your enjoyment changes if the game doesn't win GOTY?

To these guys, yes:

nah give them a slack
they were overly-hyped and shilled for years, this to be game of forever, be all end all exclusive to save the brand, bla bla

From my play time so far (about 15 hours) i don't see anything that would make this get nominated for GOTY. I wish it had more of a sense of wonder, like Destiny 1. What were they thinking with those menus!?

Too many shills and zealots working overtime to create narratives and fake hype fantasizing about major turning points for the brand, they end up doing more damage than good when reality hits and things are not as they claimed.
Same for the promises about the unparalleled hardware power of Series X, Gamepass the future of the industry and so on.

I think it will be nominated in some places mostly to include a MS game due to 'inclusivity' reasons to avoid fanboy wars. I think it won't be in the top 5/top 6 of games with more GOTY Awards.

I think Zelda, Mario, Spider-Man 2, Baldur's Gate 3, Street Fighter 6, Armored Core 6, Hogwarts Legacy, Diablo IV, Final Fantasy XVI and maybe some game more will be ahead of Starfield in the amount of GOTY awards.

I think it won't even win the 'best RPG award' outside Xbox fanboy websites because I think Baldur's Gate 3, Diablo IV, Final Fantasy XVI or Sea of Stars pretty likely will be ahead of it.

None of the remakes will win goty.
Which remakes are you talking about?

If this had come out last year it would have stood a better chance but this year is stacked with top tier games. No shot at winning outside of fanboy specific sites.

His probably referring to Dead Space Remake and Rsiident Evil 4 Remake. Reaident Evil 4 Remake has a MC of like 93 or 92. Which is very high for a remake.

Ah, yes. They got great reviews and sales, but I agree that being remakes at least most people won't include them in the GOTY candidate lists. Specially when there's a ton of great brand new games this year that would also be great GOTY candidates.

Yeah sure, hype helps the game A LOT, way more than you think.
Ghost of Tsushima received 82 metascore, yet it was a nominated for GOTY.

Starfield will be nominated but sadly after its review scores, i think its safe to assume its not going to win.
Baldur's Gate 3 should be locked for best RPG at this point.
GOTY will go to Tears of the Kingdom easily.

Even if BG3 could be argued as the better game than TOTK, its chances of winning GOTY are far far lower, first its a CRPG, second its a roleplaying game in a year stacked with roleplaying games so voting split will happen.

All I know is, if you are a multiplatform player, you're eating good this year. I imagine we are going to see a wide spread of games winning GOTY from numerous publications, and it will be warranted.

I've been playing on XSX and have about 3 hours in. My first impressions are... not great. I want to like the game, but the menus are ridiculously designed and not at all intuitive, combat is subpar, and the game experiences more slow down than it should. I would have been okay with 30fps, but the game turns into a slideshow on occasion. One other thing I find particularly annoying about the menu system is that when you enter a wrong menu, you can't immediately hit B to go back. You have to wait at least half a second.

This shouldn't be game of the year. It shouldn't even be game of the month.

Of course it will be nominated since it's one of the biggest games of this year, but I don't think it'll win awards when fighting against Zelda and BG3 in the same categories.

it's definitely not even in my top #5 so forget GOTY.

it's the same old janky ass bethesda game with a space skip and half assed limited space enviroments slapped on it.

same goes for ff16 imo.

Final Fantasy 15 has an 81 on metacritic. 13 has an 83.

FF16 is the highest-rated single-player mainline final fantasy game since FF12. That's 13 years...

It's 87 isn't a milestone for gaming though and maybe Square Enix should take a look at Baldur's Gate and look at what it takes to achieve greatness. They have shied away from turned based which is still what the majority of RPG fans want. Final Fantasy just isn't known as a premier action rpg, so why abandon your strengths instead of leaning into them.

depends

usually there are 6 nominations I think

The ones they cannot simply omit:
BG3
Zelda
RE4
Diablo 4 (due to the sheer size of the franchise)
Hogwarts Legacy (although a decent game it made a huge impact at its launch. I don't see it being not included in goty nomination)

The rest:
Flopfield
Jedi Survivor
Dead Space Remake
Spiderman 2
Final fantasy 16 (imo overrated crap game)

They may push survivor and dead space aside to make room for Starfield. But what is concering for BGS is that if Imsomniac manages to push a game that can do 90-92.

In that case, Flopfield will be, or have to, out of GOTY nomination. And it will be forever a stain on the company. So many people trusted them and hoped them to deliver knowing that they were capable of making games like Skyrim ,Fallout 3, Oblivion before.

This however will ruin their image and charisma on the users big time. Their only hope is to Spiderman game to be decent or a flop. Even if Imsomniac manages to make a game that "at least" matches the 1st one, I would put that Spiedr 2 game over Flopfield in GOTY race personally.

Let's look at the context in which Tsushima was nominated.

First it has an 83 and not an 82. Second, it has a user score of 9.1 It won player's voice award. It's presence and nomination was largely due to fans. It sold VERY well as an original IP. Half Life Alyx was PC AND VR only. Ori got snubbed because of Hades.

Starfield can't be nominated over Zelda, Baldur's Gate, and Diablo. At least one of the niche games generally get a nod and that will probably be Sea of Stars. So with Mario and Spider-Man coming out, it's largely up to them as to whether Starfield will get a nod or not.

It probably can't be ignored that RE4 could also got nominated.

The fan vote for Starfield may prevail simply because Xbox fans want it to be nominated... whether they play it or not.

ok this come out wrong ff16 is my goy right now the imo was for the unjust talk of it being mid.

I will know that after I play it. But BG3 will be difficult opponent. And I suspect Phantom Liberty will be too.

Did they ever nominated a Remake to Goty?

My bet for Goty nominations is:
1. Zelda (due to exclusivity)
2.BG3 (best multiplatform)
3.Starfield (due to exclusivity)
4.Spiderman 2(due to exclusivity)
5. Sea of Stars (due to indie place)
6. Open slot for Hogwarts, Diablo, SW: Jedi Survivor, Diablo 4, FF16...and probably more could be nominated on this slot.

RE2 and FF7R both got nominated.

I think you can say that these games are full on remakes rather than remasters though. RE4 falls closer to the remaster line than RE2 and RE3, so it might not get enough separation to be nominated this year. It has a decent chance though.

Not sure exclusivity helps games get nominated. Maybe I'm wrong there, Stray did get nominated, but I think it got nominated for being an indie darling.

Not sure how Starfield places above Diablo 4 at the moment.

I gotta say, I'd rather have Starfield nominated than Diablo 4, when it comes down to it. Diablo 4 doesn't deserve anything other than maybe an "award for outstanding incompetence".

yeah good riddance

its a fun game but nothing goty nominee worthy. this should be a humbling lesson for bethesda/microsoft

from surefire goty skyrim to this. they should just sit and ask where they've gone wrong

Why would it when , particularly Xbox executives, have so many people on social media telling them how great they are .

Something doesn't add up when leadership/executives rack up constant praise and awards regardless of the output yet by far the most important thing, the actual end result, the output of the content , does not.
