I have classic shell installed for win 8.1 do I need to uninstall it before updating?
Yep.
I had the folder, now it's gone. I'm trying to figure out if it's downloading stuff anyway, but not sure where to see that. I did notice this using my bandwith is that good?
Can I delay the install? I signed up for it on the work computer but I'm a little skeptical now if I should go through with it, don't want things to break.
One place you can look is C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\, as that's where some people mentioned where it's temporarily storing stuff before moving it to the $Windows.~BT folder.
It's not going to auto-install, you still need to manually start the process. Can I delay the install? I signed up for it on the work computer but I'm a little skeptical now if I should go through with it, don't want things to break.
So if I go to my update settings and hit turn off insider builds then I'm pretty much at retail windows 10? Also, what do I use as my product key if I ever have to reinstall or something?
That folder is 3.18gb with only 346 files. My Windows.~BT folder did show up again, but it only has 1 folder in it and nothing else. I guess it's making progress.

Mine only has 34 files at 513MB in the SoftwareDist/Download folder so it's defo getting there for you!
Mine seems stopped at 6.38GB. Think that might be the final download amount,
I have the folder like you guys, but I'm wondering if the folder itself can be loaded onto a USB stick and then used to upgrade different PC's that are elligble instead of waiting for each of them to download.
Yea I think it works based on user activity and/or network traffic.EDIT: So between me seeing it stop at 3 gb for a half hour, than taking a screencap and posting it; it has now jumped an extra 2 gb. That's one sneaky Microsoft-ware download
just did a clean install of Win8.1 again and now there's no reserved icon? :O

Hmm, mine hasn't gone past 5.98 and 16.8k files.
sometimes takes a few hours or even days. and make sure your up to date
i think you got yourself back to the end of the upgrade queue.
i'm about to do the same thing, btw![]()
Are you getting the Windows Pro or Windows Home upgrade? Wonder if that could make a file size difference here.
Well shit
Ah well that drive update thing on Win10 was the reason I went back in the first place
EDIT: Got it! Simple uninstall of a windows update and a re-install of it made the icon appear.
cool, good to know.
Ah ok. I appear to have it.
Does that mean I can install Windows 10 right now?
The size of the folder is 5.88gb, and 4.36gb on disk.
In the UK, I have the $Windows.~BT folder, although right now it's only sitting at a measly 140mb.
Will there be any way to install though an ISO?
Windows Pro, that also crossed my mind.
Im in the UK, have build 10240 preview installed, sitting at 3.8GB.
