Fully installed but a bit buggy, some apps do not want to function like the music app. I cannot for the life of me figure out why Cortana would not be supported in Canada at launch. We are literally right beside the United States, Microsoft.

Should be eventually supported but its still weird too me.

Cortana needs to learn Canadian.

I'm not sure if that's always been the case, but Microsoft is weird and terrible when it comes to supporting features globally. Don't forget that they launched Windows Phone and didn't support Pocasts outside of the US... Podcasts.

So what's the best way to do a clean install?

Should i just boot from my USB from a restart or just run it from my USB from my desktop. I have did the upgrade first.

I also want to format the HDD i have for storage as well as my SSD do i get this option on the clean install?

Tried upgrading 4 times now. Seemingly finishes the install and reboots to a low res black screen with the pointer and no further progress. I'm forced to do a hard restart until it rolls back to Win7. Tried the reddit trick in case I had unfinished/corrupt files but with the same results. Only thing I can think of is it's having a problem with the display driver.

We need an FAQ on this.

Upgrade first, make sure all files are backed up, then go into All settings -> Security/Updates and then Recovery. From here, choose Reset. This ensures your current key on 7 or 8 is converted fully to 10 and you get a clean install of W10.

Damn useless manual tool. It downloads wrong language version of Windows (Finnish) and then refuses to upgrade because the language differs from my Windows language (English). And obviously no option to choose anything during the upgrade process because modern Apple design.

So still in the same situation. Five computers, all ready for Windows 10 and nothing is downloading and having now tried it, manual install doesn't work either. Forcing Windows update (in admin mode) with wuauclt doesn't do anything either.

After updating to windows 10 i'm having a particular display problem....apparently it thinks the integrated graphics of the processor should default to monitor 1 and my GPU card to monitor 2. For whatever reason, I hook up both to a monitor and the GPU becomes monitor 1 and the integrated card is monitor 2 but when I disconnect the integrated card, the GPU reverts back to monitor 2.

Okay so I am getting the manual update but on the webpage it says I need a product key but I don't have that, so what do I do?

Thanks. Its just in the past I would normally boot from USB to reinstall windows as i dont really have anything important that I need to keep as this is just gaming pc.

If you're on Windows 7, this is a new experience; If you're coming from Win8/8.1 you may not have used this. It is by FAR one of the coolest things Microsoft has done with their OS.

I failed the update about ten times before simply following the steps I posted above and forcing it. Sometimes your update folder gets corrupted or Windows won't give you the prompt to upgrade because it's a gradual rollout.

Is it really that long in Preparing for installation? I've been waiting for 20 minutes.

Depends on your HD speed. Felt like ten minutes on my SSD.

I had this problem...turned out that for some reason, my display connected to my GPU was being recognized as "monitor 2" and its always black screen on login, (log in screen is displayed on monitor 1).

Installed W10 on my Tablet and work desktop. Everything went well, and it's pretty snappy. Does the W10 upgrade wipe out your desktop folders etc? I can't seem to find them after the upgrade.

I had this problem. Are you using multiple monitors? Update your windows and nvidia drivers before attempting to move to 10, Nvidia addressed this.

No, they popped in after a bit for me.

I tried to update and it said it couldn't figure out if my computer was ready for it. I realized I'm 17 Win 7 updates behind so I'm like shit, I'll do those first. Now it is stuck trying to initiate the install of the first update.

All good signs.

Had my PC on the whole night and now all files are gone (the $Windows.~BT folder).
I did the force Windows Update trick though and it prompted me to install W10 in Windows Updates. Currently downloading ~2,7GB in windows updates.

It's downloading on all three of my windows devices now, but nowhere is it actually moving along. The folder is stuck at 50-ish kb on all three.

Can't believe how seamless this upgrade process was! 1st time in which a Windows upgrade didn't degrade performance or cause installation issues. Very seamless and Windows 10 works perfectly.

Only problem? No extensions yet for Microsoft Edge, making the browser pretty hard to use (need my Lastpass, Pocket, and Stylish!)

Just upgraded now. Used the tool someone posted a a few pages ago and it was quick and completely painless. All good for the most part. Functions almost exactly like 7, there's no reason not to upgrade

Computer's currently installing *some* update, has been for the last 45 minutes. I don't even know if it's related to W10, but there were no important updates left to install and it was around 2.7gb, so it must be something substantial, right? Why can't there just be a generic download bar so I can see how much it's actually done so far? Can't it at least tell me that it's actually doing the W10 update? The lack of transparency as to what the computer is doing is getting fairly frustrating.

Thanks. I'll troubleshoot with this info.

No, single monitor. Only update check for updates yields is the 10 upgrade and I made sure I was on the latest Nvidia driver. I'm using HDMI connection, so I may try a VGA cable or something.

And now the dvd way didn't work - get a 'Something Happened' pop up and says that the Windows 10 install failed.

I get the same message when trying the tool to do an online update as well

So we're supposed to use our Windows 8/7 keys with this tool? (if installing from USB)

You have to upgrade first (you can do this using the USB drive). It won't recognize your key as a valid one if you try to install by booting directly into the USB drive.

My Nividia card is only using the windows basic driver. I had installed the Nvidia driver from this past month. Now when I try and install the Nvidia driver it gives an error message.
Also Edge had a hard time logging me into Neogaf. Now it seems to be working OK.

space on my system SSD went from 140gb to 85gb after installing win 10..maybe it set back some settings I made.

have to look into that later.

It's windows.old check in your program files. Probably in case you want to rollback?

Also I have no idea if it's just new drivers from Nvidia or Windows or what. But for the first time ever I'm able to use my TV at 120hz over HDMI 2.0 with the 970. Before If I tried I would get a bunch of handshake issues where the screen would lose source for a few seconds every 30 seconds or so. I don't care what it is that fixed it, I'm just happy. It's glorious.

Can I go from 7 Home Premium to 10 Pro, or is it only equivalent versions that are allowed? I got a something happened error after hours of the update, so I was gonna try an ISO.

Is it a controversial thing upgrading to Windows 10, or is it significant enough that anyone that does it gets an improvement?

Also, I don't know if this has been answered, but is it better to do a clean installation or an upgrade?
