Chrome on W10. Is it a little buggy at the moment? Text sometimes not appearing in the search bar (though it is there), forum pages occasionally hitching and freezing small areas during scrolling, stuff like that?

Certain programs do this...but not iTunes for me. Have you tried "Pinning" the open iTunes button and removing the small one?

Kind of a Windows 10 issue, I reset my PC to do a clean wipe before backing up certain things like an old iPhone backup. Any way to recover these files?

I know it worked for Win 8 Home, so worth a shot.

The thing is, this still won't give you much control over what's updated. It'll download and notify you of the updates, then when you go to install updates, it will install everything including that driver.

Thanks I'll continue to monitor the situation.

Well MS forced an update to the Intel graphics drivers and the errors have returned.

"THREAD STUCK IN DEVICE DRIVER"

that's the error I receive no matter what version of AMD drivers I install. The problem is the Intel drivers. I uninstall the driver, and install a stable version... MS pushes an update, rinse and repeat, and it goes back and forth like that.

Can I upgrade to Pro or Enterprise if I'm coming from W7 Home Premium?
My problem is simple. I need to stop the damn auto updates.

Was running just fine on Windows 10 for a couple of days on my laptop. Now my onboard trackpad isn't working (although the synaptics driver is still installed) and the Microsoft Store and associated Apps (Mail, Calendar, Photos, etc) all close automatically immediately after opening them.

Anyone else experienced these issues? I've searched on solutions for the apps / store closing on their own but so far the fixes I've found online haven't worked for me.

Anyone else can't open the Microsoft Store?

I can see the icon flash in my taskbar, but then there's nothing. Also, some apps (photo, phone, xbox) aren't working. When I try to open one of them I get this:

Problem is, I can't fix it because I can't even open the Windows store!

You can pay a stupid amount for a pro upgrade yeah, but Pro barely does anything. Defer updates will just delay them for 8 months and then I'll install them anyway. Even with that on, one of the NVidia drivers still installed. Guess MS flagged that one as important. Same with SR1, got installed.

With Pro you can also change group policies to notify to download and notify to install, instead of automatically downloading and installing.

Which you can install on home anyway, which he was looking into earlier. But still doesn't get around the fact you can't pick and choose your updates. If you wanted to install that highly important security fix, it's install everything or nothing.

At this point, I might have to see if I can get Enterprise. Can't believe this one thing is making it such a joke, so hopefully MS will eventually backtrack.

So odd one... I have had no real issues with Windows 10 since upgrading. But I had not noticed that my Start menu tiles almost all stopped working, the live tiles that is. My menu looks very blank.

I am probably going to just get static tiles, but I was curious if anyone has seen this?

News, weather, photos, all live tiles and they just have text or default icon. Tried everything I can think of to fix including some google solutions.

Any ideas?

That happened to me when I did a global custom size change to fonts. (from control panel) using a scale that is different from 100,125, 150 or 175. And custom font sizes

Changed it to one of the defaults in settings and reboot and all came back

Current issues are the the Start menu and any Windows store / modern apps become unresponsive after a while. Clocking on the start button does nothing and non of the metro apps I have pinned to the task bar will load.

A restart or two normally fixes it for a time but its super annoying.

Also sometimes sound will just stop working until I reboot.

Yeah... dont install this yet if you have the option. Debating jumping back to W8.

Have there been any reports of sporadically missing keystrokes under Windows 10? Both the "W" and "3" keys on my mechanical keyboard (which is only about a year old now) keep ignoring keystrokes now and then. Both in desktop and game usage.

Maybe I'll just try rolling back to Windows 7 before RMAing this keyboard.

Or maybe try your keyboard on another computer?

You could just disable windows update.. Goto the computer management, look under services, find windows update and disable it, reboot and enjoy

That's really not good advice at all, especially with an OS in its early days. The whole point of MS introducing this whole thing was to stop people running insecure machines, which is needed. They've just gone too far over the other end.

The point is you can enable it again whenever you want too.. But i can see having updates is much better than having a machine that works.
If i was running windows update i would have no sound(hurray super awesome).

Also if you actually know what you are doing you have nothing to worry about security wise.

Ooh and my insanity extends to the point where i also disabled defender.

Anyone getting the Bad Pool Header BSOD? I've had it since I went to 10, from 7. The error seems to something that might have come over from Windows 8 as well.

I have the same issue aside from the weather app, which is really the only one I wanna see at a glance. I am receiving notifications for facebook/twitter/etc. so I don't actually need the live tiles to be honest.

I have a MSI GS60 laptop and suddenly after a recent Windows update, it looks like my internal SD card reader is no longer working. I can hear the chime as you plug in a card and remove a card, but nothing shows up. I can't even find the listing in device manager. Any ideas? It used to work right after I upgraded to 10, but it's gone now.

This is microsofts way of making sure you dont install viruses from SD cards... No haha :) try going to the device manager, find the driver, right click, properties, select to rollback driver. If that isnt working select uninstall and delete driver.

Unfortunatly even if you make it work, windows update will make sure it doesnt work again some hours later. But then you know what the problem is.

Open Administrative Command prompt and type WSReset.exe hit enter.

Running great so far except come across first bug

My MP4 files wont run in full screen mode it glitches in both "TV and Movies" mode and Media player (worked fine in win 8)

They play ok not full screen but I just got used to it so...yeah hopefully can find a fix

Current Issue:

Whenever I click print (office, Firefox, Chrome, IE ect...) and I try and hit printer properties I get an error. Then the program freezes, I have to force close, and then I have to reopen.

I have a canon mp250, and it prints. I just can't click print properties in any program.

What's weird though is I can change printer properties if I go to the printer in the device manager.

Groove Music still force closing, I was hoping today's update was for that.

Hi People, I need help!

I constantly get the C1900101 error when trying to switch from windows 7 to windows 10 and it's on the verge on turning me batshit crazy.

I've tried multiple things, uninstalling all my protection software (antivirus, malware etc.), unplugged all my USB but my keyboard and mouse etc.

I have just no idea what to do.

Is there a secret way to bypass this damn error?

I noticed a strange issue when playing a video with the movies & tv player.

When a video is full screen and I press the space bar to pause it, pressing space again doesn't resume playback.

Also hitting escape does nothing and the mouse can't be used.

I thought my pc had locked up until I hit the windows key and the start menu popped up.

My mp4 video playing screws up and goes jittery to an unwatchable level full screen mode only

Annoying bug for such a core feature

Ok so there's no way to pin items to the left side of the Start Menu? If I'm reading this right, apparently this feature was on the older builds so why would Microsoft take it out of the final build?!

As far as I know, it is not possible to pin to the left side. I've tried a bunch of stuff and also googled around. Apparently, it's only for recently used programs, which I always disable.

Can anyone recommend a good free video player for windows 10 to just play my MP4 files in full screen?

Win 10 video players work for me except full screen since upgrade from 8.1

For now I am using real player. Image quality sucks at full screen but it works, so at least I know its not some driver issue or wider problem.

Apart from this I am really impressed at the GUI enhancements for 10, big improvement over 8

ah sweet def check out VLC and other links guys, thanks!

The more I use the GUI in 10 the more I love all the subtle improvements

Thats an upside of 8 being so bad, I'd have stuck with 7 and never upgraded if I didnt have 8.1 (got license cheaper than I could get a 7 key, so got that with plan on upgrading to 10)

Best thing for me as an Android developer is the upgrade has been seamless Android dev wise - not a single problem with any of the toolset chain (incl android studio, adb, emulators etc)

I get this error every time I unplug my laptop power cord and it is getting annoying, some neogaffers suggested me to go to CCC>Power Play and turn off "Enable Vari-Brigh", however I clean installed Windows 10 so I couldn't find CCC. So I installed AMD Catalyst Control Center but there is no options "Enable Vari-Brigh".
Do I need to install different driver? I think my computer came with ATI CCC.

Eh. I don't mind the updates. I don't mind that you disabled yours. The defender thing bugs me, though. The footprint is so tiny on my machine. Might as well keep it on.

I have Windows 10 installed on my Sony VIAO laptop. I, when it's usefull, use the mousepad of the laptop to scroll. That is not working ever since I installed W10. Any ideas to solve the problem? Thanks

edit
nevermind, found it

Disable 'Adaptive Brightness' in your advanced power options and the error should stop.

Edit: Click the battery in your task bar -> power & sleep settings -> additional power settings -> change plan settings (on whichever power plan you're using) -> change advanced power settings -> scroll down to 'display' and set enable adaptive brightness to off.

Your way didn't work but I found the solution, in the "Change advanced power settings", I saw "ATI Graphics Power Settings" then clicked -> "ATI Power Settings" and changed "On Battery" to "Maximize Performance" and it worked. Now when I unplug the power cable, the error doesn't show up. :)
Thanks for the help anyway.

Actually pinning the program doesn't work either. If there is a fix for this, let me know.

I had a similar issue on 8.1 with Steam. I just kept pinning and unpinning the open program until it fixed itself.

You might wanna unpin the program, Restart your PC then try pinning the program again as well.

Usually pinned programs are stored here.

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar

The solution is usually to unpin the one you manually pinned, or delete it from the directory posted above and repin the active window ie whatever program is running, but I ran into the problem where that didn't work too.

According to the thread linked below it's a registry thing I had a problem with my Cyberfox once I updated it to a newer version, you can probably glean the solution if you read the thread.

https://8pecxstudios.com/Forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=172&p=937&hilit=double+icon+taskbar#p937

This worked for me, but be careful when you edit your registry.
