This is just another reason to only consider the surface going forward.... you know the other oem's are itching to screw things up too.
You can never uninstall shoddily coded OEM software from Windows completely as if it had never been installed. They leave files in the windows directory, registry, all over and don't bother to remove them. At least that's how it is with traditional Windows, RT might be different. This is windows. You can uninstall all that crap![]()
Doesn't W8 have an easy "wipe" option that would make getting rid of all of the crapware, easier?
Don't know about verde but i installed the normal 306.02 drivers with no problem.Anyone having trouble installing the latest Nvidia Verde (notebook) drivers? (Verde 306.02 Driver)
It says it's incompatible with my operating system, even though i chose Win8x64 when searching for the driver![]()
I'm honestly surprised that this thread doesn't turn into the weekly carnival of stupid with the usual suspects. Is this thread hidden or something?
Check on the gaming side, a new carnival of stupid has popped up there.

IFA is about to start and it's time for another hardware carnival of stupid.
Not only are we getting silly clown phones like the Note II, but LG showed their 21:9 PC monitor.

Because 16:9 in computing wasn't bad enough.
The Start Screen should look great on it.
Widescreen computer monitors, when they first started appearing, used to be 16:10, which is infinitely better. Then HDTV's became big and every LCD panel was cut to 16:9, which included computers.Whats wrong with 16:9?

it can be anything between 80 to 160 lines depending on the screen resolution120px = ∞
lol @ Microsoft being capable of having an effective ad campaign.yes its horrible. the fud in the press is doing no good for w8. they need a tremendous ad campaign to make up for it.
nopeThinking of pulling Windows 8 off of MSDN. Anyone encounter any major installation issues recently?
Man, Windows 8 isn't too great on my Acer Revo. The Revo is a piece of shit with a single-core atom processor and an NVIDIA ION LE chip, but it could handle 1080p video playing through Windows Media Player without any issue.
It can still do that in Windows 8, but the Video App stutters to hell and back, and the machine was completely unusable with horrible flickering until I installed the latest NVIDIA beta driver.
Sorry if this has been asked already, but I'm not really willing to comb through such a giant thread!
Does anyone know if there's a way to keep the Start Screen open on one monitor, with the desktop on the other? At the moment, clicking on the desktop results in the Start Screen closing. Also, is there any way to get Charms to appear on the monitor that is not your primary? I would like to have the start screen on my left, but the charms on the far right. I searched through Google with no avail.
Thanks guys!
Edit: Also, is there anyway to create icons for desktop apps that will appear in metro? The way they have desktop icons look now is hideous. Thanks again!

Can't you install the normal drivers instead of verde?
The rest of the UI animation is buttery smooth. It's not the video file, I don't think. The video plays perfectly smoothly in Windows Media Player, but the video is choppy as hell in the Video app (audio is unbroken though)
It's amazing how much some folks want the ME -> XP -> Vista -> 7 cadence to continue.
They could release Win 8 next year with minor tweaks, call Win 9 and people will jump proclaim it the greatest OS since 7.
So, I broke down and decided to set it up on a partition of my HD.
I was expecting a festering pile of horror, so perhaps it was my lowered expectations to blame, but I actually didn't hate it!
The start menu thing is irritating. That and a couple subtle differences throw you off at first, but once you get used to it it starts feeling more and more like "home". That said, I really can't see it as being that much better than Windows 7 unless you're an MS fanatic and have Windows mobile stuff, too. The metro interface being basically the same as what you get on a windows 8 mobile device would be an advantage for someone having those. But who in their right mind would buy a windows mobile device?
The bottom line: If you currently have windows 7, it's $40 to upgrade until January 31. For $40, it's probably worth the money to upgrade.
But if you already have Windows 7, you already have everything you need. Win 8 is a little faster, a little more snappy and clean. But minus the Metro thing, it is exactly the same as Windows 7. So, if you're going to be stuck with a full upgrade price? Skip it. You don't gain anything.
Windows 7 will continue to be the XP for some time, and you won't be left behind if you don't upgrade from it, because Windows 8 doesn't have much over it but somewhat improved stability and ease-of-use improvements.
But I will say, Windows 8 is not another Vista or ME. It's a very fine OS.
Nope, went smoother than Windows 7 installation iircThinking of pulling Windows 8 off of MSDN. Anyone encounter any major installation issues recently?
Shit, i would. The only downside is that it doesn't currently have all the good apps that iOS/Android have. But who in their right mind would buy a windows mobile device?

Except for the apps...which really is what a platform is all about if you ask me.Windows Phone is an excellent platform.

I feel really bad for the LG Optimus 7 owners who are getting android Optimus 3D handsets in exchange when sending their device for warranty repairs. Even with the poor CPU and GPU by today's standards, the phone is 10x more usable than the piece of junk optimus 3D running android 2.3.Not everyone needs a lot of apps on their phone. Also you get better/equivalent performance with much cheaper hardware.
However we don't need to bring that old debate here.

And it was posted by the #1 hater of Windows 8 lol.

Let's not make this into a WP thread. I've been using iOS for 3 years and there's nothing that will make me switch to anything else at the moment or the foreseeable future. The apps on Windows Phone is of excellent quality. But you say you love quantity over quality?
It doesn't help that ativ is vita backwards.

This was on the gaming side but figured it fits here too.... pretty big deal to get the full unreal 3 engine on winRT.

Was not expecting to see Unreal so fast on Windows RT. MS must have thrown some cash into that. In terms of mobile games all it does is put them on par with iOS & Android but if it means we start seeing full blown PC games released RT compatible that would be huge.
