Windows 8 Application to sync Windows Phone stuff:

H1Zik.png

Microsoft has been retiring a number of its Zune desktop app features recently, in preparation for the upcoming switch to Xbox Music. While the company is readying its new music subscription service, Microsoft will also introduce new apps to manage and sync Windows Phone 8 devices. Sources close to Microsoft's WIndows Phone plans have revealed the look and feel of a Windows 8 companion app for Windows Phone 8 devices.

The application, a Metro style one that will be available from the Windows Store, is designed to replace the Zune client for Windows 8 users. We understand that the app will be automatically installed for Windows Phone 8 users on a Windows 8 PC when a device is connected. Windows 7 users will be directed to an equivalent desktop app to manage devices. The application, which will likely be branded as a "companion app," will provide quick access to photos, documents, music, and video on Windows Phone devices — allowing users to import or export data to handsets. We understand the application will be made available in the Windows Store in time for the Windows Phone 8 launch — expected in late October.

Most of them aren't intended for keyboard use. Or at least not as one of the main ways of input.

But the stand its not just suitable for keyboard use. A lot of times I want to sit a tablet on the bed or on my chest while watching a movie without having to hold it.

Masturbators unite!

But as mentioned at the end, if you want to make changes to settings that are not available in the metro PC settings, you'll have to use the classic shell, which is annoying when you're on a tablet. It would be great it Microsoft could slowly upgrade those parts with yearly .1 releases.

Remember that most of the settings that you need to go to the Desktop to change are settings that the iPad for example doesn't even give you access to in the first place. Most if not all of the settings you'll actually want to change for use on a tablet can be found in the PC Settings app.

Technically not Windows 8 but it's funny when MS posts a picture of a guy praying on its own website, presumably praying for their products to work right :)

Here's the website, it's the third slide you have to wait a bit.

They also had the balls to make it a Muslim, in their US site no less...THAT I respect.

Anyone have a wacom intuos5 or other recent wacom touch tablet? does the touch functionality work seamlessly with win8?

I am wondering if this would be an ideal touch pad for desktop users, particularly if you already use a graphics tablet for other things. I do not yet own any of their touch-enabled devices though and I've heard the touch is not as responsive as say an iphone or PSVita.

My X41 uses Wacom Pen Digitizer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oG8Sc8wlp3Q

I am still trying to find mine... But the video should give you an idea oon how seamlessly it works. :)

Now that I actually have games to play, I discovered that framerates in Windows 8 with intel's WHQL drivers for the HD3000 are significantly worse than in Windows 7 on my laptop with old drivers (bad enough that I'm getting better framerates at 1280x720 in win7 than i was with 800x600 in win8). I'm switching back for now, hopefully things are better in October.

Neowin: How To: Install "legacy" Intel HD Graphics drivers on Windows 8

You're welcome.

dLMN8TR, When are they going to announce the WP8/W8 convergence?

So devs can code for WP8 and it'll work for W8 snap mode and vice versa.

I'm building a budget gaming PC for myself, and I don't want to spend money on Windows 7 with 8 right around the corner. The Release Preview is ok to install on new machines right? And I can do that with a USB stick? And then when 8 comes out, I'll basically have to do a clean install, right? I read that going from the Release Preview to actual release you only keep files, not settings and applications.

woo finally got win 8 working. Seems like everything moved over fine except for razer synapse.

Seems to be busted for win 8. Shame, so used to all my shortcuts and what not on my naga T_T.

I have a problem now that when I use a mic on win 8, I sound like a dying robot to the other side.

win7, skype/recording etc works completely fine. win 8 is misery.

I have Synapse installed on Win 8, works fine for me. Maybe try reinstalling it?

lol and my response from razer support

the fuck.

They always says stuff like that while the OS is in beta. Until it's officially released they can't officially support it.

I would ask them the same question and say you're using Windows 7 to see if something else might be the issue. I'm using a Naga and it recognizes it. Also a quick google search shows that other people have had that issue on other versions of windows as well.

Most people are releasing windows 8 drivers when it's officially released. I got the same response from Logitech.

yeah.

Speaking of which, win 8 multi monitor support is pretty shitty with the metro stuff.

like I can't do the mini metro app thingy on both monitors.

And it's inconsistent with where the start screen comes up when i hit windows key.

like from here.

I got metrotwit on the right corner of the right screen. But if I want to open up start screen on left monitor (click bottom left of left screen) the metrotwit app flies over to the left screen for no reason.

And is there no way to open up my documents/my computer/pictures/music etc from the start screen without making shortcuts?

I'm feeling like i'm missing some things lol.

You can move metro screens to the other screens by pressing Windows Key + Page Up

Edit: never mind the mini metro screen stays in the same monitor for me.

yea you can't seem to have more than 1 of them open at once.

The fuck is up with that logic?

Wonder if there are settings somewhere that can mess with this.

Metro apps don't run on more than one monitor. They're not like windows, they are full screen apps and most users don't have more than one monitor. So yeah. Shit sucks.

I think their logic was "shit we have to ship this thing". i'm sure the ability to have apps run on both monitors at the same time will come in the future. If I have the ability to have 4 applications open across two monitors then I think that will solve a lot of my problems with the new stuff.

but weren't they bragging about all the cool features they implemented for multimonitor support?

From what I can tell, they only new feature that is notable is the taskbar is on both screens now.

I think i need to install that program again for Multimonitor... what was that called again?

The cool features for multimonitor are for the desktop, like multiple taskbars, better wallpaper support and ... uhm ...

and you know what sucks? metrotwit desktop version doesn't seem to work :(

bah.

Is it possible to pin 'shutdown' or 'sleep' to the start screen? Or is charms the only way to turn off my computer?
