the app menu can be top, bottom or both.
Yep, top/bottom for app specific functions. Left/Right for OS functions, i.e. app switching settings etc.

If they wait until then to announce the important details its going to bomb... they need to get preorders up a week or two before the actual launch for no other reason to gauge interest.
Pre-ordering for me will be a must.... The closest ms store from me is a 2hr drive (which I am planning to make on that saturday) but I have to know I will get a surface when I go if I am going to make the trek

The app menu is on the bottom of the screen though. I guess they had no choice because the mouse buttons are on the bottom on laptop touchpads.
edit: I just tried it in the store app and the menu is on the top of the screen. mind blown LOL (I assumed app menu=the bar that shows up on the start screen with an all apps button)
my bad guys!
edit2:though I don't like the inconsistency, why is it in the top for the store and the bottom for every other app (i've tried so far?)
the hell. Whats this app menu y'all are talking about?
Also wanted to say the "tutorial" after installation in the RTM is garbage, they just move the cursor to trigger the charms bar 3 times in a row with the same animation without even explaining to the user what it is they're seeing (and it's not like they have to worry about it being skipped/wasting user time because it happens during the installation process itself..)
I hope whatever plan the windows team has works with the public for marketing and awareness of the new interactions.

Windows 8 is a new and exciting experience. Like any new experience, it helps to be guided through it. HP is here to help. Getting Started with Win 8 is an HP-exclusive app that helps you learn the basics and directs you to more information and support.
Features
- This app will teach you about:
- How to navigate in Win 8
- The new Metro start screen
- Finding apps and files
- Moving between Metro and the standard desktop
- Metro apps
- Metro store
- The new control panel and task manager
- Using touch
- Charms and menus
- Modifying the Metro start screen
- and much more
I thought it closes an app.
and I believe you need windows 8 as well to actually submit apps.Store is finally open to submissions by individual developers. If you're wondering why apps are coming in so slow, well, it's because people couldn't submit apps yet

long downwards swipe is closing it
i thought short swipe up is app menu

I want it for free.Broke down and installed Windows 8 professional retail. Got it for free off MSDNAA.
Takes some getting used to but it does boot up and shut down pretty fast.

its the same thingRetail or RTM?
I think someone should make it when Windows 8 gets launched, both Windows phone 8 and W8 apps could sync and there are more apps in the store. Right now there is no point. I'm still making the W8 OT btw just in case you guys forgotSo when can we start to expect stuff? And should someone start a Microsoft Store OT? I'm betting that the store is gonna be a clusterfuck to find the cool shit for the first few months to years.

Not a bad thing that it looks the same, just amusing is all. I'm glad all ultrabooks are starting to look like macbooks and same goes for this. The more good looking shit the better. It's still funny.

If it works anywhere near as well as the Magic Trackpad then this is a good thing for everyone. Except people who can't handle change like my brother who uses Mountain Lion but hates everything that makes it Mountain Lion. Go figure.Trackpads for desktops is thing now? Wow...

dude that's just what they changed, just go to windows update on your computer so it does it for you. (3 clicks to get to the update screen)lol holy shit the instructions on how to install updates is long
errr.... more like worded weird. I did all this stuff and it still leads me back to old windows updates on desktop lol.
I want to say Apple can't possibly have a patent on that, but rounded corners and wedge shapes. While the trackpad actually makes a ton of sense for this OS, I don't see how in the world that HP won't get samsung'd over this.
dude that's just what they changed, just go to windows update on your computer so it does it for you. (3 clicks to get to the update screen)
Click the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search.
Type Windows Update in the Search box.
Click Settings, and then click Install optional updates.
I mean...
long was the wrong word
was just surprised that the clicking all over the place lead me to updates lol. Just something silly.
Or:
-Settings Charm
-Click 'Change PC Settings'
-Click 'Windows Update'
Windows is set by default to install important updates automatically though, you'll never even know it happens.
I think they changed it so that it installs the updates only after you restart but they won't keep annoying you.Yeah... something about the instructions make it seems harder than it is.
Didn't know important updates installed automatically though. That's badass!
Will my computer still restart randomly without my permission? I swear i have the auto update turned off in win 7, but it still occasionally restarts.

Does Windows 8 have multi-touch gestures? That's basically the only thing I like in OS X over the regular Windows styled OS.
Yeah... can't get this damn razer thing working
