If they wait until then to announce the important details its going to bomb... they need to get preorders up a week or two before the actual launch for no other reason to gauge interest.

Pre-ordering for me will be a must.... The closest ms store from me is a 2hr drive (which I am planning to make on that saturday) but I have to know I will get a surface when I go if I am going to make the trek

They are opening up a bunch of stores just for the holidays/Windows 8 launch. No word yet if they will actually have the Surface although it seems like a no brainer that they would.

The app menu is on the bottom of the screen though. I guess they had no choice because the mouse buttons are on the bottom on laptop touchpads.

edit: I just tried it in the store app and the menu is on the top of the screen. mind blown LOL (I assumed app menu=the bar that shows up on the start screen with an all apps button)

my bad guys!

edit2:though I don't like the inconsistency, why is it in the top for the store and the bottom for every other app (i've tried so far?)

Try IE: It's both bottom and top :P

If i recall correctly at a time you could swipe from top to bottom to bring the top bar, and bottom to top for the bottom bar, and the idea was to have two different bars (the top for navigation and the bottom for a sort of a menu)... But it probably didn't worked very well as navigating entirely on the top menu was a pain in the ass...

Now i have no idea if there's a guideline for what should be at each bar, but i think that the top one is still used for navigation shortcuts.

the hell. Whats this app menu y'all are talking about?

This thing!

Also wanted to say the "tutorial" after installation in the RTM is garbage, they just move the cursor to trigger the charms bar 3 times in a row with the same animation without even explaining to the user what it is they're seeing (and it's not like they have to worry about it being skipped/wasting user time because it happens during the installation process itself..)

I hope whatever plan the windows team has works with the public for marketing and awareness of the new interactions.

OEMs will take care of that.

besides sharing the form factor of an all in one pc i think they dont look all that similar

imac.jpg

that picture is a little dated and features the old mouse and keyboard (2008?).

I agree about the formfactor, though the current keyboard and touchpad (2011-present) are very similar to what HP is selling here.

Not a bad thing that it looks the same, just amusing is all. I'm glad all ultrabooks are starting to look like macbooks and same goes for this. The more good looking shit the better. It's still funny.

So when can we start to expect stuff? And should someone start a Microsoft Store OT? I'm betting that the store is gonna be a clusterfuck to find the cool shit for the first few months to years.

Broke down and installed Windows 8 professional retail. Got it for free off MSDNAA.

Takes some getting used to but it does boot up and shut down pretty fast.

I think someone should make it when Windows 8 gets launched, both Windows phone 8 and W8 apps could sync and there are more apps in the store. Right now there is no point. I'm still making the W8 OT btw just in case you guys forgot :p

mehhh does the product a disservice when it looks like a clone. i bet the hp trackpad sucks ass too.

If the shit had been all-black then it wouldn't have even been noticed. It's a fucking monitor with a wireless keyboard and trackpad, of course they were going to look similar.

lol holy shit the instructions on how to install updates is long :P

errr.... more like worded weird. I did all this stuff and it still leads me back to old windows updates on desktop lol.

A track pad is going to be more and more common with Windows 8 desktops.

While the trackpad actually makes a ton of sense for this OS, I don't see how in the world that HP won't get samsung'd over this.

Does Windows 8 have multi-touch gestures? That's basically the only thing I like in OS X over the regular Windows styled OS.

dude that's just what they changed, just go to windows update on your computer so it does it for you. (3 clicks to get to the update screen)

I mean...

Click the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search.
Type Windows Update in the Search box.
Click Settings, and then click Install optional updates.

long was the wrong word :P

was just surprised that the clicking all over the place lead me to updates lol. Just something silly.

Or:

-Settings Charm
-Click 'Change PC Settings'
-Click 'Windows Update'

Windows is set by default to install important updates automatically though, you'll never even know it happens.

Yeah... something about the instructions make it seems harder than it is.

Didn't know important updates installed automatically though. That's badass!

Will my computer still restart randomly without my permission? I swear i have the auto update turned off in win 7, but it still occasionally restarts.

I think they changed it so that it installs the updates only after you restart but they won't keep annoying you.

It was annoying in Windows 7 but you can't blame them, security is first priority.

I think that MS has tried to make as many updates as possible not require restart, but I couldn't be sure that all of them won't restart your computer.

I'll certainly be letting this update go automatically and I'll see if it tries to restart my computer.

Oh, I think that will work pretty well.

Way cool! Bought a Samsung 7 slate, loaded windows 8 and to my amazement I didn't have to enter my wireless router password because it synced from my windows account. Also I wrote this message with my digitizer pen. Can't wait for new hardware.

I have been playing Adera on W8-RTM and I really like. Pretty solid puzzle/adventure game. It is also going to cross-platform with WP8. Going to be seeing a lot more of this, which is great.

Yeah... can't get this damn razer thing working :(

So I upgraded (well, reinstalled) from the RP to the RTM and yeah, getting this now too. It worked fine in the Release Preview. Hopefully they update the drivers soon and fix whatever it is was broken between the 2 versions.

At least I can still use my mouse for the 1-12 keys, I'll just have to remap some keybinds in certain games.
