What am I doing wrong with my Chrome Tile? I copied the address directly from the shortcut, but it opened up a new window rather than switch to the existing like the default shortcut do.

Does Windows 8 have a feature to share your Ethernet internet as a wifi network?

I believe you can already do this in Windows 7 so I would assume Windows 8 can too (can't confirm, I run a desktop)

Edit: Also, is there any way to get Skype for Windows 8? I've been trying to find it forever.

Is there anyway to get a clock on a tile? Just noticed there is no easy way to tell the time without going back to the desktop.

Weird that it is not on the calander tile

There are several clock app. Some are free. I used Clock work great. I am not sure what is with Microsoft and their love for hiding those information. They did the same with Windows Phone where you have to swipe to see connection bar and battery. (At least the clock is static on Windows Phone).

Is upgrading to windows 8 worth it if you won't have a touch screen? I'm looking into laptop upgrades and just figured the surface pro won't meet all of my preferences, so I'm kind of at square one again.

needs more discrete graphics option.

I don't know if you're serious, but an IHD 4000 is more than enough for everything except hardcore gaming.

It'll probably run games like League of Legends and Minecraft well (native res at 30 FPS for League), but for something that flips inside out it doesn't need anything more. It'd be bulky as fuck or require good ventilation.

I don't think most of the windows 8 premier things will meet my needs, I'm trying to get a larger screen (15-17) along with whatever the best screen tech is, as well as a built in blu ray player. I was thinking maybe a tablet surface would work if I could just buy seperate pieces and plug them in, but that sounds cumbersome, I think i'm just meant to use laptops that I can customize.

So I wonder if windows 8 is worth the investment there, how is it as a mouse OS?

thanks found a good one, I would love to share what it was but I have no freaking idea how to check my "purchase" history

A touchscreen on a larger gaming laptop is something I could see happening, but not like this. This thing flips around and turns into a tablet, I don't see that working or even being logical to have on a larger gaming laptop. I mean, why would you play BF3 on a touchscreen anyway?

Should be in the Windows Store
http://apps.microsoft.com/webpdp/en-us/app/skype/5e19cc61-8994-4797-bdc7-c21263f6282b

Open the link in IE and it should give you the option to 'View in Windows Store'.

I think it's because I'm running the Release Preview. Oh well, I was waiting until I got paid to get Win 8 Pro, I can hold out a few days.

Stopped working for me too. I can sign, but get a message saying that they can't send any messages right now, and every message i try to send returns an error.

oh. i thought i was the only one.

Good to know it's not just me. Something must be fudged on the back-end. Hopefully it is fixed soon, been using the Messaging app for FB chat regular since the Release Preview.

You can't get new apps and app updates in the RP store.

Hold on, friend! I'd love to share with you some swell news about the Windows 8 Metro UI! Wait, where are you going?

Anywhere in the store, right-click and select Your Apps from the top menu that comes down. The cool thing about this is I have Windows 8 on my desktop and tablet PC and I can see which apps I have installed on each and which apps I purchased that I don't have installed anywhere. Once I've purchased something I can install it on multiple devices.

So I really want to make a tile that is a link to Facebook or Amazon, but it opens it up in IE, not Chrome. How do I get a link tile to open up in Chrome? I made Chrome my default browser for everything, but then it broke all my tile links. I had to set IE as the default browser for URL: HyperText Transfer Protocol to restore the tiles.

I read on another site you can just type this in

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" http://facebook.com

and it will open up in the nondefault browser. Apparently it doesn't work in Windows 7 and definitely doesn't work in 8.

I don't know about Windows 8, but that isn't the path to the Chrome executable in Windows 7.

On my PC, the actual path is:

"C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe"

Change <username> to your actual user name, and put http://facebook.com at the end. It will open Facebook in Chrome.

But I want it

It's nice to see someone from the gaming side who want it.

And yeah, Metro apps are full screen only but they can be snapped. For example, you can browse with IE and snap Xbox Music to the right or left for the ultimate GAF porn experience.

And I received this update via windows update:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2756872

Take a look at the change list:

•Increased power efficiency to extend battery life
•Performance improvements in Windows 8 applications and Start screen
•Improved audio and video playback in many scenarios
•Improved application and driver compatibility with Windows 8

Sinofsky team are working hard it seems.

I have the path I stated as a tile to open up Chrome and it works fine. When I go to the path your stating I go as far as the Chrome folder then my folders change. All I have is User Data after that.

The worst part about Windows 8 is it signed into my ancient MSN Messenger account in the messaging app, and now a spam bot that took over my brothers old account keeps sending me spam porn links :(

I finally learned how to snap apps... browsing while having iHeartRadio snapped to the right side of my screen is awesome.

I'm slowly becoming more comfortable with Windows 8. I still have a ways to go to master it but I'm liking it more with each passing day.

My wireless Xbox headset is transmitting garbled audio through the earpiece. Anyone know of a fix? I can't seem to find any information via my Google-fu.
I have tried everything I can think of here. Uninstall, reinstall, manually update the drivers, choose the driver from a list, nothing has been a resolution. I suppose I simply say the Xbox 360 headset is incompatible with Windows 8. Hopefully Microsoft will release updated drivers.

ie10 wasn't installed on win8, how do i get it?

do do i set up custom pictures for games?

So the Store app doesn't like it when you hit back multiple times on the home screen... it stops responding well to mouse and other forms of navigation input. It seems like a bug... an easily reproducible one at that.

P.s. I know it's not a killer feature but the auto-correct and spell check performance of IE10 is pretty top-notch.

So how do I go about using two metro tiles at a time. I tried moving netflix to my second screen but when I try to use chrome on the first screen, it closes out netflix?

Mine's weak as. All it does is correct things like shouldve > should've. Tried typing stuff like Bakrey and BAkery (this happens a lot) and it doesn't do anything. I can understand the reasoning but I wish you could make it more aggressive.

Only issue I have with Windows 8 is that in the Mail app, I can't drag and drop e-mail into folders. Once/if Thunderbird gets Metro, I hope that's put in.

I could think of lots of cool snap modes for games, like a top down 2D shooter mode...

I think pretty much the best use of it is something where you are sending info from snap to the main application, maybe like a World of Warcraft auction house app running on the side or something (if World of Warcraft had a Windows 8 version..)
