At&t went crying to Microsoft perhaps. Not sure it could be his site got hammer by all the download or may be there's a problem with it. Some people here seems to have problem getting it to work.

I suggest running the Windows restore tool first to make sure your old firmware is up to date and then try the Chevron tool.
I think it can be confusing because you have to run the update twice, once for the pre-nodo update and then for nodo. It takes about 2-3 minutes to complete the first update and then about 7 minutes for the second update. I think turning the phone off and then on in between updates may help as well.
And if you close out the terminal while it is paused the firmware becomes corrupt. Then you have to use the Windows tool to reinstall the old firmware and start over.

No problems with NoDo for me so far. It's amazing how all the little inconsequential fixes make me feel so much better about the phone. And I'm happy as long as the updates/tools get leaked to the Chevron guys so we can have them and AT$T can go suck a bag of dicks.

Seriously, I feel like they're blocking this update to sell the HD7S, but it's so not worth making all of us unhappy like this.

Now something completely different. I hope it's okay to rant here about the lack of a good tablet OS from Microsoft, because I found this (hopefully soon to be released) news reader and Jesus, in a perfect world, where we would already have good competition in the tablet market, this Windows 7 touch enabled app with Metro UI would make so much more sense.

It's called Mosaic by Tribune and it's as Metro as a 3rd party desktop app can get.

Quoting this, because the app is finally out. It's a fullscreen Silverlight app and looks pretty good for a 3rd party metro app. The performance could be better and it's only really useful for single screen devices with a touchscreen, but with the "immersive" apps coming to Windows 8, we'll probably see more of this. I'd love a Windows Phone 7 port.

What zune/hotmail errors?

I did :( Kept me at 7004.

I'll try again when I get home, but it worried me that it wouldn't update me, so I left it alone after it not working the second time.

Odd.

7004 is RTM, 7008 is the February Update (pre-NoDo) and 7390 is the March update (NoDo).

Which tool, the Microsoft Restore Utility or the Chevron tool? You need both, install the Microsoft utility, Windows Phone Utility, from http://blog.walshie.me/2011/04/04/so-who-wants-windows-phone-updates-like-right-now/

Then use the Chevron tool after the MS utility is installed. The MS utility only updates the firmware to the pre-update firmware (7004).

I am just curious what firmware of Samsung Focus to you guys have (especially those of you that have difficulty updating).

I have Firmware 2103.10.10.1
Radio 2103.10.10.1
Hardware 3.1.0.7
Bootloader 4.10.01

If I run diagnostic tool, it said I have Version UCJJ1, there is some report that some versions have the problem updating.

http://www.simplemobilereview.com/tip-how-to-check-your-firmware-version-on-the-samsung-focus/
Firmware 2103.10.11.2
Hardware rev. 3 1.0.3
Radio 2103.10.11.2
Bootloader 4.11.0.9

That's the site whose instructions I followed, actually. Installed the MS Utility, extracted Chevron, then ran Chevron. Maybe I should try reinstalling the MS Utility and running Chevron again?

Mine is:

Firmware 2124.10.12.2
Radio 2124.10.12.2
Hardware 3.1.0.7
Bootloader 4.12.08

I had plenty of issues getting the updates (especially the pre-NoDo), but I am finally updated now (without using any of the "hacks").

The first time it updates, it gives you the pre-nodo update. The second time you update, you get the nodo. The first update takes as much as 5 minutes. The second update takes as much as 7 minutes.

just tried mosaic on my windows 7 laptop and it seems really beta to me. it's really made for touch devices though so i'm sure the windows phone version will work much better.

They announced of a WP7 version alongside the Windows 7 version (around CES time). Another good example of Widnows 7 tablet apps is Flickr, which looks pretty much like a large screen adaptation of the Windows Phone 7 version.

Okay so do I need to roll back my shit to stock? I did the fucking call into Hungary Method so what do I need to do to roll back?

Not that I'm gonna roll back now because who the fuck knows how long this will take to release.
I wouldn't worry too much it seems firmware update is separate update. Dell firmware is coming later and plenty of focus already got update without the new firmware.

That article was assuming they will roll into one...when the tweet clearly said separate firmware update is coming.

Use the MS tool first.

Look closely at the instructions, or my posts last page

I'm confused. The site says:

Once you’ve installed the support tools and extracted the ChevronWP7.Updater.zip to the desktop, plug your phone in and wait 30 seconds.

Now start ChevronWP7.Updater.exe (this should kill Zune) and follow the prompts.

Install MS tools > Extract Chevron > Plug in phone > Wait 30 seconds > Run Chevron

At which point do I run the MS tools?

ah, yea that makes more sense

Looks like author just want to generate some hit by injecting his own opinion .... there was report on WPCentral that Rogers/Bell Focus get separate firmware update notification.

As for the firmware I have the 2103 version but there are 2124 already out there. I didn't have the problem with updating on my older firmware but ElNino did with his newer firmware. How bizarre and to think there seems to be so many revision of the Focus out there, no wonder Focus is a big mess when it comes to update.

The only real pressing thing I want to fix for Focus is probably the headset bug (where your mic get disable when you plug in non-mic headset) oh and may be the SD card problem. However at this point I would rather live with 8gb than reset my phone and loose the unlock. Reading XDA forum it seems it still hit and miss regarding which SD card would work I rather not chance reset my phone put in the card and have it not working anyway.

I also have the 2103 version. yep i agree completely regards to SD card and unlock...

have not noticed the Mic bug and i did insert a non mic set...will have to try my mic set again and see if it fails

The mic on the phone fail if you use non-mic headset. This was why I couldn't get Shazam to work before ... because it wasn't picking up any sound. Btw, what a great app, my co-worker put on some music the other day that I like and I just Shazam it and there it is and link it to my Zune Marketplace.

It's great that Microsoft paid for the unlimited version of Shazam on WP7.

I didn't know it's not free on another platform. I am sure whatever MS paid for they get back more from people buying the music they discover on Zune.

yea, tripped me out one night as I'm driving along listening to radio, pull phone out, hit the big shazaam button, pleasantly surprised to be taken to zune MP, click on buy song and several minutes later I'm streaming it over bluetooth to speakers. :D

There's a free version on other platforms, but it's limited to five music tags per month. The unlimited version is called Shazam Encore and costs $5.99. I was surprised when I read about it few weeks ago in the Android thread. Looks like Microsoft has the same deal with Last.fm, making it free to use for Xbox 360 and WP7 users.

no change that he noticed...

EDIT2: Fully updated, couldn't see any differences at all.
OS-Version: 7.0.7390.0
Firmware-Version: 2250.09.12000.401
Hardware-Revision-Number: 0003
BootLoaderVersion: 1.20.2250.0(117833)

my biggest concern with new focus firmware (or anything ATT) is removing the faster 3G setting.

Update: For Samsung customers having issues updating, please use the “Recover” functionality of the Windows Phone Support Tool below BEFORE attempting to update again.

If you read where I started my attempt (post #5973), I ran into the problem many have. Running the Chevron tool kept trying to do the preNoDo install, but upon completion just left me at 7004.

Apparently the MS Recovery tool must be updating some things (I didn't look close enough at the sub version numbers of everything before and after to know exactly what) ... and it sets things up to some baseline Chevron needs to work.

So in my experience here's how things went:

I followed the standard instructions and installed the MS recovery tool, and then ran Chevron. Did the wait 30 seconds thing, etc, but every time I tried it things just stayed at 7004.

I then actually ran the MS recovery tool, following the exact instructions it gives you.

Once I did that, and then ran the Chevron tool (wait 30 seconds, all that jazz), the preNoDo update worked. You could see it was actually installing based on the information displayed on the phone screen I cited in post #4976.

That put me up to 7008. I than ran Chevron again as instructed and viola, NoDo.

There was a free unlimited version on iOS but Shazam keeps bringing out new versions and charging for it. Shazam red, Shazam encore, Shazam bullshit. I've bought em all by mistake. Which sucks because soundhiund isnth better app :/

Yep, rage quit last night, tried again today and it worked for some reason. I'm happy :)
That's fantastic. I'm really glad the regulars here have been able to get NoDo. Did bretison get it?

The conversation in this thread is definitely more upbeat. We should probably all make a pact to ignore Mix coverage so we don't enter another angst-filled waiting period, lol.

Playing with different colors on my Focus.

I really like the black / white theme but white background eat up battery so fast on the Focus (probably why browsing website drain battery on the Focus).

Light grey and white or black looks good also, but doesn't work well for email because the app also use gray color for read email.

Here is yellow one .. kinda work but a bit bright for eyes

Probably good reason why MS choose those stock colors ... I have yet to find custom color one that work well.

Yep I'm happy, when I get the time I'm going to post the apps and games I keep on my phone. Hopefully people discover apps they might have missed.

What app will let you change the colors? I have been looking for a good one for a while but post nodo I can't get it re-unbranded so I can run custom programs.

yea but what I found was I always hated the stock colors because they were all too light or vibrant for everyday use (on FOCUS) with poor contrast texting except for brown. Just tweaking the stock colors a bit (darker/richer) made them perfect IMO.

I usually have my brightness on medium which as you know is pretty danged bright already. I tweeked the stock blue, green red, purple, orange and teal to be PERFECT now and then added Navy blue, Grey/blue, dk green. Love it

In fact when I see videos or pics of other windows phones (not focus) i always say that the colors look more natural. I wonder if the super Amoled screen handles those stock colors differently and Samsung didn't tweak them?
