Now someone needs to work on both a ventrilo client and a mumble client for me! With socket support, multitasking, and other background shit we can finally get this to work now!!

Why won't they let me upgrade my OS tho?

they will....

they will let you buy buy the new fall WP7 model which will have Mango before the rest of us have NoDo - BAM! OS upgrade!

I just got the WP7 Samsung Focus from AT&T, IDK if the phone was a wise choice considering the nodo is taking forever, but if nothing pops in the next month I'll change carriers. Overall though I LOVE the WP7, the graphics are so much better in the games as opposed to the iPhone, could be the display but its noticeable. Also playing music without the headphones is crystal clear. All we need is Nodo and Mango then it has potential to overtake the iPhone. I was questioning my WP7 decision the first few days, but after MIX I'm very happy about it.

P.S. An IM app would REALLY help

Very cool to see certified SD cards..... now maybe they will make easy to access SD card slots on all phones. Pretty expensive compared to the others but still a good solution.

This seems to be a recurring theme with wp7 but it fits in nicely between the openness of android and the super locked down ios.

Winrumors have received an internal email from AT&T which strongly suggest AT&T will start pushing out the pre-NoDO and NoDo update for the LG Quantum and Samsung Focus on the 19th April. Surprisingly HTC Surround owners will have to wait till mid-May for their update.

Effective April 19, 2011, new Microsoft maintenance release updates will be available to AT&T customers with existing LG Quantum and Samsung Focus Windows Phone 7 devices. Approved updates for the HTC Surround are scheduled for availability in mid-May and will be communicated once approved.
Microsoft is planning to release two new Maintenance Release (7008 & 7390) updates that require a three-phase installation. The update installation process includes:
• Installing Zune software
• Installing the 1st (7008) MR which prepares the WP7 device to accept the enhanced (7309 “NoDo”) update
• Installing the 2nd (7390 “NoDo”) MR update that adds new device functionality
Customers will receive a notification starting on 4/19 advising them of an available update for their phone. Once the customer completes the 7008 update, they will be able to immediately update their devices to 7390 (NoDo) by disconnecting and re-tethering their phone to their PC. If the customer does not immediately update their device to 7390 (NoDo), they will receive a notification that an update is available within three days.
The Headliner for the 7390 (NoDo) MR is that it adds Copy/Paste functionality but additional functionality is included that is unique to AT&T.
SUPPORT PROCEDURES
My CSP will be updated for launch. If customers should have additional questions or issues with this update, please refer the customer to LG or Samsung for additional support following standard policies and procedures.
Important Notes
Installation of the 1st (7008) maintenance release is required before the 2nd (7390 “NoDo”) maintenance release can be successfully loaded on the Windows Phone 7 devices.

Wonder what that is...
hope it's a fix for the mic bug on my Focus. Bug sucks.

Since that Mangod thread was DOA, here's what what I posted in it concerning multitasking.

*snip*

good stuff. The background transfer stuff is interesting considering they had that problem not long ago with some apps failing to control their data usage

any talks you'd recommend? not just about this but anything interesting from MIX?

Okay that rumor seems to point towards the Focus update being the NoDo update.

Should I roll back my phone to stock or what GAF?

I'll wait to see what the "fix" is from ATT. If it changes my 3G bandwidth speed back to slow, I'll stay, if it adds anything substantial, I may restore so long as my unlock will hold.

Yeah, I'll wait and see. I'm fine with NoDo on my Focus right now.

In other news, installed a Samsung 16GB MicroSD card today. Syncing a shit ton of music now.

Looks like the unique AT&T features that'll come with the update are:

"I forgot to mention the update we’ll be shipping to AT&T customers also includes support for two special AT&T features. The first is “WISPr” protocol support, which makes it possible for your phone’s data connection to automatically switch over to AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots when in range. The update also includes support for AT&T Address Book."

Link!

Neither of those are worth anything to me. I won't roll back, and I won't update if I'm prompted. Don't want to lose my unlocked device.

Edit: also, the Facebook app got an update. No live tile yet, but it is a little more stable and a little quicker to load, plus the notifications page is more reliable, and scrolling is improved.

I am not sure how that will work, right now if my phone find att wifi which is a known wifi it would auto connect anyway. So I am unclear how this is "added" feature. Do they mean I won't have to discover wifi and it would auto sign me in to any att wifi hotspot.

I wonder if we are getting Focus update roll into at&t also or will that be separate update.

Turn out I just can't leave my phone well enough alone even if it's work great ... now that there's an "approve" sd card I figure I give it a try as 8gb is just way too limited. I was down to less than 2gb as of yesterday.

Anyway pick up 8gb sandisk class 4 (the approve one). I got it from att as I want to be able to return it. The girl that help me was freaking out that I am buying it for my Focus. She said she heard that it doesn't work. I told her that you have to reset the phone. Then she told me I would loose my setting, I told her yes I know .... then she went to ask her manager if she can sell it to me. I told her not to worry I reset my phone several times already. At one point she took the phone from me and try to figure out how to open it, I have to get the phone back and told her I know how to insert SD card.

So I don't know if she really worry about me kiling my phone or she just doesn't want me to bring the card back.

Anyway I restore the phone back to pre-NoDo then installed SD card and reset the phone. It seems to see the card fine. Reboot the phone a few time make sure it didn't wack out and it seems fine.

Unlock the phone with Chevron tool and sideload all the app. Unbranded the phone and now it's installing NoDo update. So far so good now just have to reinstall all other apps that I didn't download via Zune (that's probably the most painful part about resetting the phone).

Well No-do just done, I will update and see if this SD card workout or if I get reboot bug after I fill it up.

So in all seriousness, what's the deal with Verizon Wireless? What is it going to take for them to announce a Windows 7 phone and stick to the release date?

Well they actually never announce the phone. Microsoft said first half of 2011 so they still got 2 months to go. Using Microsoft sense of moving very fast and phenomenon speed, I guess you should see the phone at the end of May. : P

Honestly I am not sure why they are taking so long, aside fromt he fact that Verizon doesn't really care about having Windows Phone 7 on thier roster. They said they are testing the phone according to the last rumor.

Any tips for a peaceful collaboration between Zune and iTunes? I don't want iTunes to mess with the metadata or covers. In fact, I don't want it to do anything with my music collection, except for playing/streaming it.

Uncheck Keep iTunes Media folder organized. It shouldn't touch your metadata.

Heard the Windows Phone Radio shout out for Wordament. Wasn't kidding. It's fantastic. If you're not familiar with the concept, it's basically boggle, but against everyone all at once. A game is constantly playing and restarting and it ranks when you scored against everyone playing after every round. Surprisingly addicting.

Now that the platform's been out for a while, anyone have suggestions for a simple groceries app? I use on that's simply called Shopping List, but it hasn't ever been updated in the months it's been out, and still has some annoying scrolling bugs.

What I like about Shopping List is that it has pivots for "all", "shelf", and "cart". Basically, it's an easy way to keep track of everything you need, what you've already picked up and put in your cart, and what's still waiting sitting on the shelf.

So what's the best Dropbox client?

Need it for PDF/MS Word if possible.
I use kickbox and it works for viewing my PDF and word files. Unfortunately, API limitations make it impossible for syncing files back up to dropbox, though. :-(

Wow, this game is seriously addicting. Thanks a lot, my productivity just went down 15%. lol

I jumped in a few times..... very awesome game. Feels like a next gen alphajax or words with friends.

I do wish these games had xbox live access..... I know this was just a enter a tag name but I would love to see my avatar there and xbla profile.

In due time, I'm sure this will be a big hit.

I just saw you beat me on the leaderboard, lol. Gotta get back to work, though. :(
I was just jumping on to see if that was you. I feel like such an idiot playing Wordament, apparently everyone else on the planet with a Windows Phone is a God-damned word-savant.

I really hope this game gets huge, it feels like it has serious potential to be the first breakout hit for WP7. Spread the word, I know three other WP owners IRL, I'm making sure they download and rate this game.

I am conflicted between it and BoxFiles which is rated better and a bit cheaper.

There is also LindyBox which offers a free version. (their LindyReader for reading comic/manga is beyond awesome btw.)

restoring back to pre-update status now.. going to take this opportunity to re-brand my phone and keep it unlocked for side-loading apps..

I've heard that some people are receiving the update on at&t.

Yup, updating from NoDo to whatever AT&T shoved in this.

Do I have to revert to pre nodo to get this? That seems like too much of a hassle for me to bother. I'll just wait and see if there is any real difference, like some device specific improvements that I don't have in my build, but I highly doubt that would be the case. I used the Hungary server trick, btw not the chevron tool.

Well, i'm going back just so I can dev unlock my phone and use the trick to keep it unlocked..

Then I'll re-brand to att and get their official update that is being pushed out.

I used Chevron tool and it's updating normally.

Ditto Hungary trick here as well...

Debating what I should do...

Ok, so I'm a step ahead since I did the trick and kept my unlock before updating to no do, what is the value I should place in the carrier field if the registry to re-brand my phone? I don't want to screw that up. Right now its that 00-8 or whatever was necessary for the Hungary trick.

ATT-US

I don't know if re-branding is necessary, but I figured I'd do it just to be safe.
