Yeah, I want this phone, but I need to make sure that its a better build than the t mo version.

I'm ready to sell my Focus and get this off contract.

I don't get that option with Hotmail (well, it's labelled as Windows Live). Never have. I do with my Google Mail account though.

Edit: It appears if you click Add Account > Windows Live, it will automatically sync all Windows Live account info -- email, contacts, calendar and photos. If you just want email, click Add An Account > Other Account then type your hotmail info.

Ah, yeah, don't have the option for Windows Live, I guess since it serves as the "base" account?

Welcome to the club.

How are you finding it so far?

Other than the fact that it made me re-do all my contacts on MSN, I guess so far so ood.

The charging is another story, I think it was glitched for a while. I had it plugged in through the USB for a while without any charge or negligible. Then plugged it through the wall, still the same.

I did a hard reset on the phone as I had no data on it, plugged the battery out and then put it back in, after everything, it took another 2-3 hours to fully charge the phone.

When I looked online for Samsung Focus battery issues, I was surprised to see there were many people with similar problems.

It's kinda weird--I had issues where my Focus would power off when set down. I wasn't dropping it, but I'd put my phone in my car's cupholder, or set it on a desk, and it would turn off. I thought it was a hardware/battery seat issue, but ever since NoDo, it hasn't turned off ONCE. Makes no sense.

Also, highly recommend the Windows Phone Help app. Has LOTS of tips, its basically an FAQ app.

Samsung phones take long to charge. 3 hours from a dead battery is par for the course.

I've been using an iPhone since 2007 and this is my first Samsung phone.

I don't think I will be too happy with this as time goes on...

Rogers still hasn't released it after all their internal docs said March... Hope the July refresh happens before September...

you can just buy the 8 gig one and just upgrade the memory can't you? it voids the warranty.

whats the point. you already know, (according to the dell road map) they're gonna roll out a new one (wriggly) with 720p camera and we probably won't get that either. i hate rogers so much.

By and large, the Focus is regarded as one of the best WP7 phones by most users, even if it does have it's quirks. Don't be so doom and gloom!

How do you like it? Te don't have many Trophy users here.

I don't have it yet but I will post my impressions when I will get it next week.
Coming from Symbian I know that many things will be missing but I couldn't resist a price drop like this.

Well, its been a week with my dell venue pro, and I honestly like it very much. The phone build is very solid but the power key is awkwardly placed. The software is almost there for basic functionality, and I think the Mango update will take care of certain things. Love the contact synchronization thing, has really helped me with moving the contacts from my Nokia N85. Most annoying thing has been the fact that the Zune marketplace and xbox live havent been available in the country, and I cant access them from the phone. They were supposed to officially launch last month, but MS rolled back due to whatever reason. I can access it through my PC Zune software though, albeit with some registry edits. They really screwed up with that one, the phones are available before the marketplace, hope it launches soon.

I have a dumbphone. Have always had dumbphones. This'll be my first smartphone. It'll be great for me.

Besides, if I keep waiting for better tech on the horizon, I'll NEVER buy or enjoy anything. Gotta take the plunge sometime ...

you will love it, enjoy. did you download the Zune PC software and organize your media? add that cover art as the Zune player and desktop software will take full advantage of it.

Well, that's what I meant. Wrigley is supposed to be July-ish right? I'm fine with grabbing an unlocked one.

Btw I STILL haven't gotten an update yet. My current hardware version is 7.0 (7390) still. :(

If you brand your phone back to At&t you won't get an update. It's currently being blocked um.. I mean being tested.

While initially it is quite annoying to have all your contacts from Hotmail show up on you phone, it also give me a nudge to clean up the contact list. It's nice to have all your contact sync to the cloud and whatever change you make will be there. So if you ever have to reset your phone as soon as you log into your hotmail account all your contact will sync right back. I find it pretty good.

I have not run into many problem with battery on my Focus though there was an incident where I plug the phone in and left it over night and the battery never charge.

Nah, mine goes from flat to full in an hour tops. From mains anyway.
I have two Samsung phones in my house (the other is a Captivate) and both take more than an hour to charge, plus a friend who has an Epic. All those phones are related, though obviously the Windows Phone has better battery life than the Android ones. So if your Focus takes just one hour to charge, I'd say you are very fortunate and I'd say its not the norm for Samsung superphones.

I have to admit that surfing the web with my phone isn't that easy, now that I use an ipad at home. Everything is just so ... Tiny. On the other hand, typing this feels so incredibly good. I swear, windows phone 7 has the best virtual keyboard ootb.

You gotta love the sound it makes.

Yeah I had similar issues yesterday, I think it is more of a software glitch. When I restated/reset/plugged the battery out everything worked fine.

I'm having problems with Xbox Live. I have everything linked to my LIVE account and my emails and all sync just fine but when I log on to XBL on my WP7, it just doesn't get updated. After a while of updating icon, it says "please check you have your data or WiFi turned ON". Rest of the features of my phone work just fine on WiFi.

Anybody else had these issues in the past? I'm on the latest OS by the way, my phone just got updated today. Thanks. Oh and I think the Xbox feature worked fine before the update which was yesterday, haven't tried since and it is not working today.

I believe that Xbox problem has been the story of today. Not just you.

As illustrated on the keynote slide above, East Asian support is not only the introduction of a new character set but actually a slightly modified implementation of the Metro design language.

To accommodate the bigger size of character-based writing, the Windows Phone design team is adopting a vertical text layout to reduce the amount of text clipping that would occur more frequently (than it already does). The vertical text will not be limited to just the date and time on the lock screen but will also be featured in hubs (panoramas) and other native apps.

Unfortunately for third-party developers and designers, Microsoft had indicated the vertical layout will not be automatically available to third-party applications. Of course I presume there will be nothing to stop apps from emulating the look, just these layouts probably won’t be supported in the native panorama templates that ship with the official SDK.

Furthermore, it wouldn’t be surprising if these East Asian changes is part of a broader Metro refresh for Mango as well. After all, in a meeting with the Windows Phone design team shortly after WP7′s launch, they had already indicated they were hard at work on the evolution of Metro.

What is the Windows Phone Help app you are talking about? Is that what it's called? I tried to search for it but I couldn't find anything.

I know there is a Windows Phone Insider app, maybe that's the one he meant.

:| not happy about this. Copy and paste isn't supported properly for third-party apps as well. then there is the poor support for phones with landscape keyboards. All these shortcuts taken to get features out in a timely fashion will hurt MS in the long run.

What's the best IM client for WP7 right now?
You might want to sit down...

There's no fully functional IM App... yet and there won't be a good one before the Mango Update due to restrictions made by Microsoft.

Edit: Thanks brotkasten. I can now listen to my Audiobooks. :p

Thought so.

If there isn't one by the end of this year, I'll be joining the Android club. Really like the integration of GTalk. Wonder if MS can get its act together for developers developers developers.

Aren't you forced to sign up for the program's account to use this kind of program though? It looks like some sort of meebo clone.

That's what frustrated me about these mobile version IM apps.

I use IM+ on my iPad and don't need an extra account.

Is there any way to split up messages? Also, lack of embedded youtube videos is just ridiculous...

I think the message is "the HTC Trophy, almost as fast as a shark with wheels."
