I just want a competent messenger to talk to my friends across the world. Yahoo Messenger is the only one that actually doesn't sign you out that often but it drains your battery life fast.brotkasten said:An official WLM by Microsoft would be as useless as the 3rd party one we already have. Nobody outside the WP team and few selected partners are allowed to code natively for the OS, not even other teams at MS. Without socket support in the SDK we won't see anything good. Still curious to see how good IM+ is going to be pre-Mango.

This is business oriented functionality, but it looks like we'll be getting conversation view for email and support for hidden wifi networks.

- Pinnable email folders: Pin a folder to the start screen for quick access. This could be an email folder for a specific project, from a specific group or person (like your boss), or an RSS feed youve set up in Outlook.
- Conversation view in email: Emails in your inbox are organized by conversation, bringing replies to a thread into a consolidated view so its faster and easier to stay on top of the conversation.
- Server search: Search your email server (e.g. Exchange Server) for older emails no longer stored on your phone, giving you ready access to all of your mail.
- Lync: Lync Mobile brings the Lync experience to Windows Phone customers by delivering Unified Communications capabilities, including instant messaging and the ability to see the presence of your co-workers. The Lync app will be a free download from Windows Phone Marketplace and will be enabled with support from your business organization.
- Security: Complex (alpha-numeric) password support
- Rights management: Information Rights Management support for protecting e-mails and Office documents
- Wireless improvements: Support for access to hidden corporate Wi-Fi networks

exactly, look at what Samsung is doing with touchwiz on Android. it takes many elements from wp7 and implements it for their UI. Google is now going to be working harder with makers and carriers to get updates out. all this because Microsoft is on their ass.kinggroin said:When you're missing so much from the start, it's hard not to be.
But all ribbing a aside, this is excellent news for any potential smartphone owner. Having 3 legitament operating systems to choose from, means a lot more competition now. More competition means quicker updates to each platform, so we all win in the end.
Not to hate, but why does this feel like a joke/troll bate post?Gabyskra said:I keep reading that Mango will have a ton of stuff, but I've yet to hear about one feature that is going to bring much. What is the one feature that all smartphone owners should look forward to, no matter their background? It feels like Windows phones are still playing catchup to android.
How is that possible? On what carrier are you?Hammer24 said:While its nice to read up un that Mango stuff, I´m still waiting for the first update. Doesn´t make me any more optimistic.
Unveiling on May 24th, new devices this Fall.thirty said:anyway, when do we expect MS to officially show off Mango and the new phones to be released? I'm dying to see Samsung show a galaxy S2 equivalent and possibly a high end Nokia.

I don't care about password encryption, etc. I'm not into fanboyism (I have a Zune HD and I reside in France, it's not sold here, I had to import it and pay quite a bit, if that tells you how I feel about microsoft's products). In this instance, I feel like WP7 is taking too long to improve.

brotkasten said:Whoa, buddy. Calm down, okay?I said I'd update the OP and maybe replace some bits and pieces, instead of just updating the future section. I never said I'd already do a new OT. if someone wants to do that, please, go ahead. If you need any info or material, just ask. Also, a new gaming ot would be nice.
thirty said:ok, I'm on a mission to get camera settings saved by the next update. please let the windows phone team know that's something you want via windows phone twitter and their Facebook page. I'd post direct links but am busy at work still.
oh, heard smart DJ is in mango, yay.
well i'm going to keep at them until this annoying "feature" is expanded to include saving your settings. i urge everyone to do the same.VanMardigan said:I was the one who pushed them on their blog and got them to admit it was a "feature". Yes, every first gen Windows Phone 7 will get the Mango update.Joe said:will all windows phones receive the latest updates like they did with zune? i'm thinking of buying a focus but don't wanna be gimped with the outdated software in the long run.
antiquegamer said:I went to my local at&t store today and they have completely remove all Windows Phone 7 display .... there is not a single sign left. All the demo phones are gone. Not sure if they are planning a new promotion or what.
Anyway play with the new Infuze, that is one big screen. It would be nice to get WP7 version of that phone.
As far as I know, nope, it is not.brotkasten said:What about it? I thought it's in Mango.
Mango supports 16 new languages.MCD said:As far as I know, nope, it is not.
Worst part is that all games are already done. I bet Angry Birds for WP is the vanilla version.Brettison said:On a side note I know it's not the gaming thread, but I hardly ever post on the gaming side anymore. That whole stealth delay in that big group of 6 games SUCKED BIG TIME. None of those are right to left, like Arabic and Persian.brotkasten said:Mango supports 16 new languages.

It would help to mention which languages you mean.
That's what I was asking for. I thought Arabic would be in, but it's not even in the expanded market for app development.numble said:None of those are right to left, like Arabic and Persian.
I think the problem here is to translate the Metro UI well enough. They already said it took them some time to get it for the Asian languages right.MCD said:Yup, Hebrew, Persian and Arabic are RTL and MS is ignoring it.
They were all busy, and I just go in to pay my bill (automate machine). I am assuming they are just rearranging though it was disheartening to see.besiktas1 said:You should have asked them![]()
