we should steal it!
Is anyone making a new thread for Mango? I think it would be a good idea.

The problem with a new OS is that, usually, the apps situation is directly tied to hardware sales. MS should be given credit for the apps situation and the fact that there is still a lot of developer excitement around the platform. Every week, I get a new app that I thought I'd have to leave behind when I left iOS and Android. Not only is it unexpected given the platform's slow growth, its downright bizarre. And yet here we are, barreling towards 30k apps (or more) and app acceleration is INCREASING? Really? You have to figure at some point the reality of hardware sales will slow down app development, and yet with the mango release devs will have even more tools and so the app growth is unlikely to slow down this year.
What's this rant about? That tweet was actually GOOD NEWS, despite the Apollo tease.
If you don't use any O2 services that are on the device, you should flash a carrier-free ROM.Nero3000 said:One thing I hate about my HD7: O2 have changed the default search to yahoo and there is no way to change it. So when I press the search button in IE (constantly due to the cap active button) it goes to a badly formatted yahoo site, rather than the bing application.
I hope in mango you can change this behaviour, and inn the future this change should not be allowed.

we all assume that the update would release before the phones but releasing the new phones first and making existing WP owners wait makes much more sense. heck, that strategy has done wonders for android.watership said:I'm getting a bad feeling that when the new Mango phones drop it'll be months before Rogers in Canada pushes it to my Focus.
Just a little feeling tho.

VanMardigan said:I was excited that my news reader (next Gen) had an update that said it supported mango devices. Alas, I can't see a difference. Its definitely not running in the background, which is what I assume mango support means.
I tried using it the other day, but it wouldn't work.Lynn616 said:I read that Mango will get free turn-by-turn voice navigation. Anyone here with Mango used it yet?

will definitely be in apollo, i'm betting on it.
IM+ has Skype, but only text chat.Blablurn said:goddamnit, so there is nothing to connect to skype right now?
There will be a Skype app, but the OS integration will have to wait til the next major version, Apollo.MagniHarvald said:^ IM+ for the text chat
Wait what? I thought I read it was coming with Mango..?![]()
Tango is rumored to be the next update, coming between Mango and Apollo.MagniHarvald said:Ok thanks guys.
On a side note, I love the Update names, Mango, Apollo. I wonder what the next will be. NoDo sucks, but that wasn't a big update.
With the new communication APIs that come with mango and the Nokia deal, the WhatsApp shouldn't be too far off. Instant messaging pre-mango was really a chore.Mat C said:It's a shame there's no WhatsApp on Windows Phone yet. That was my go to messaging service on iPhone. I successfully convinced almost everybody I text on a regular basis to get it, and now I'm the phone who can't access it since moving to WP7 this week..
That aside, I'm loving Windows Phone. The Omnia 7 is a really, really nice piece of hardware and I can't get enough of the OS. Such a brilliantly wonderful change from iOS.

While Android marketplace seems well stocked with apps, WP7 seems much easier to use right?

Yes, my mother sucks with technology but could easily use my Trophy. So, i'd say Wp7 too.maeh2k said:But how many apps does your mother actually want/need? (esp for her first smartphone)
A couple of months ago I chose a WP7 device for my mother (coming from a bad touchscreen feature phone). She doesn't use a lot of apps, so the priority was that the OS should get the basics right (calls, messaging, camera, easy to use). WP7 is great for those things.
Overall. she is very satisfied with the phone.
She still doesn't use a lot of apps. She has a weather app and she now uses e-mail (which she didn't before).
If I were you, I'd go with WP7 over Android.
