I mean, I guess it kind of makes sense with how social-centric the phone can be. I know my home screen has all kinds of pictures of friends and family. I'm curious how they will use it in actual ads though.

Microsoft's new tagline for the upcoming marketing campaign will be "put people first". Ugh, okay. Any thoughts?

it's uninspired and boring.

so it's perfectly in keeping with the marketing thus far

Microsoft trying to be "cool" and failing. They should just market the product because the product itself is awesome. I thought everyone wanted to copy Apple but marketing hasn't gotten the memo yet.

Yes, put me first and talk to Verizon and get me a phone with a front facing camera.

In the HTC Titan video, they showed a panorama app. It seemed better able to track phone positioning. I'm thinking this phone has added sensors, a gyro and compass maybe?

I hate how they always promote a single feature to differentiate it from the competition. It should be something broader like 'The fastest OS ever' (I know that's a crappy example).

WTF HTC, go die in a fire.

finally got my omnia 7. any tips for great apps or games (i can only go online at home with wlan, so i would prefer apps that work offline).

All phones have a compass, it was a requirement since the first gen. Only the optional gyro is new.

Looks like a poor hackjob attempt at creating a HTC Sense application.
Oh thats what your talking about, its ment to be an Alarm clock app or some bullshit.

Yeah I agree it looks out of place. But like all HTC apps, if you don't want it- don't use it.

Looks like a dock specific application. Not seeing a problem with it. *shrug*

Problem is it shows HTC just wants to shoehorn their sense ui into everything and second, it shows almost no effort and also that no one at HTC really gives a shit for letting something like that come out.

Edit: Somehow I don't think app developers can make a dock app replacement that loads automatically when it's docked overriding the HTC app, or can they? A new niche market just opened up.

Does the compass require OEM drivers? Mango is claiming I don't have one installed.

Yeah, what app can I use to test the compass on my phone? I think I read that HTC has a compass app for their phones, but as far as I can tell, 3rd parties don't have access to it pre-mango and Samsung doesn't have an app for it. So it's just.......there.

I've already uninstalled Mango but searching for 'Mango' in the marketplace should bring up a Mango compatible Compass app. You don't need to buy it to see if the compass is available - there will be a notice on the page if it isn't.

HTC and other partners will run advertisement campaigns for the Titan and Radar phones, and the company has joined Microsoft in training “hundreds” of salesmen worldwide to better demonstrate the product, Berg said at the IFA consumer electronics fair. Microsoft plans to build on Windows Phone’s initial success with female consumers as well as with young and first-time users to win market share, he said.

...

The Titan, which has an 8-megapixel camera with dual-led flash and a wide-angle lens, will sell for 599 euros ($855), while the Radar costs 399 euros. HTC is in talks with retailer and operators, Seiche said, adding that the phones will be broadly available in Europe.

It totally looks like a re-launch and this time with more support. It's still concerning that HTC hasn't any deals with the operators, except for T-Mobile Germany.

meh, if they wanted to train salesmen for operators it would be better to hire people to sell the phone in large operator stores, otherwise the people running that store aren't going to care

or give out the phone to salesmen in the stores, have them comfortable with the product

You could try LindyReader if you love comics/manga.

Upload your cbr/cbz files to dropbox then download them on your phone.

Happy offline reading!

When did they add an app store in Zune? Or did I just never see it before? It's much easier shopping for apps this was as opposed to on the phone.

Depends on your region. If you're from the US or Europe (EFIGS), it was always there.

No, I'm in Canada.

In any case I'm glad it's there :) That's the one thing I thought my iPhone did much better was the app store on the phone. The problem with the W7P app store is that it FEELS barren, even if there are a lot of apps, just because it's not laid out very well.

What about unlocked phones?
You still need an extra plan.

e: That is, of course, based on their previous behavior, when it comes to tethering. It's not totally 100% confirmed that it's going to be like that. I have the Mango RTM build 7720 on my phone and I don't have an internet sharing option.

Are the current rumors regarding tethering referring to USB tethering or a WiFi Hotspot?

If it's that latter, I'd consider paying for it.

USB tethering was always possible on most phones. You had to enable it in the manufacturer menu and your phone would act as a modem.

Works for LG, Dell, Samsung don't know aboutand HTC.

Yeah I have it on my Samsung ... but that's kind of what I'm getting at. Is this simply OS level usage of that feature, or an actual hot spot?

If it's simply USB tethering, sure that's cool for the people that haven't bothered to access it (or have a phone that didn't previously support it in the FW) ... but obviously it's of no use to me since I already use it.

The OS supports wifi hotspot.. we've seen screenshots of the interface.. but it is up to the device manufacturer and the carrier to enable it.

Oh, sorry. It's a WiFi hotspot and you can connect up to 5 devices (if allowed).

Emergency!

I have a small scratch in my omnia 7 display. maybe 3 milimeters. i can feel it, but it is not very noticable, when i am not looking for it. but it annoys me when I see it.

I googled some ways to fix glass displays (assuming this is gorillaglass i also googled for iphone 4 screen fixes) but most of them were kinda sketchy.

does anyone know how i can fix/seal the scratch

A cool.

It'll be interesting to see if AT&T will actually allow me to add tethering to a grandfathered unlimited plan. Technically tethering is a separate charge so they shouldn't be able to use the traditional excuse they use regarding adding features to old plans. hmmmmm ...

The fact the above appears to be a Focus is at least a good sign regarding the phone itself.

VanMardigan said:
AT&T makes you move to the 2GB plan if you want tethering. Total suckage.
>_<

Knew I should have signed up way back in the day lol.

It makes ZERO sense. I can understand them wanting you to pay extra for tethering if you have an unlimited plan.

But why in the fuck should you pay extra if you're in a capped plan? Why does it matter how you're using the limited amount of BW you have?

If that's the case I may look elsewhere. While I have a nice plan with AT&T ... times are changing, and along with that so are my needs. I have more and more WiFi enabled devices. If I can get a better plan (even if capped) elsewhere, I may do that. Granted I suppose an actual WiFi hot spot is also a possibility - I'll have to see how things play out over the next 6 months or so.

I'm in the same boat. I'd actually prefer to move to Sprint, but I have a good plan with AT&T (Union discount) and Sprint doesn't have any phones I want. I could move out as soon as next spring, I'm still strongly considering it.The problem I have is that carriers want to flatten everything, so for example I don't text that much, and don't use the phone much either, but they want to give me unlimited text and calls if I want unlimited data. If I can't get significant savings, I rather just use my N1 to tether for free.
