TomTom is not interested in Windows Phone, even though Garmin and Navigon already jumped in and they still don't have an Android app (it's still in development, lol). How long until they'll completely fall off the cliff?

thats pretty nice.

I think 16 GB is the minimum one can expect from a 199/599 euro device. That HD7 8GB shit doesn't fly anymore in 2011.

There's a google talk app on the marketplace for Mango now called gchat. Not working for me though.

Seriously, I can't rave enough about this. It makes all my iPhone owning relatives jealous. I was was receiving and sending texts via voice at the grocery store and people were like WTF.

Is that from Godgle themselves?

lol, no

Google does absolutely nothing for Windows Phone. They have one official search "app", that lets you enter a search term and then opens m.google.com in a browser window and that's it.

No maps, no calendar, no mail, no youtube. It's like they absolutely hate this platform, even though they seem to really like the design, as the new market app shows.

They think you're an observer now!

Anyone from germany with mango? Does all the voice to text stuff work here?

I don't think that feature is region restricted.

Can you speak the text-message itself, too? I mean, is there a well-working voice-to-text feature?

Yes, as to how well working.. well it depends. But quite a number of people have mentioned that they really liked it.

Yes, you can speak the text message as well. It will prompt you when it is ready for the message content with a tone..

it works well (at least, in english) as long as you avoid slang and limit the number of abbreviations. It is supposed to get better the longer you use it.. but I haven't observed closely enough to note an improvement in recognition.

I'll be honest, at first I thought it was an okay "gimmick". I didn't use it much at all, other than to show off what Mango was capable of. I don't know if the software got better or if I learned how control my speech pattern better (probably the latter), but it became more accurate as time went on and now I find it to be indispensible.

If the voice text is just a little off, you can physically edit the result with the keyboard, after the fact. I try and stay away from that to be fully hands-free. I'm not sure if there's a trick to it, but I get run-on sentences because I can't figure out how to separate it with a period via voice. So if anybody knows how, I'd appreciate the tip!

It's is one of my absolute favorite features of Mango. I didn't even know it was there until I was driving one day and since my phone is paired with my car via Bluetooth it stopped my music and the voice came on saying I had a text message and would I like it read. I was able to have the phone read it, and speak my reply, all while my phone was in my pocket and I never had to take my hands of the wheel. Holy crap! GREAT feature.

I'd say the accuracy has been about 90% so far, I can chalk some of the trouble up to having to speak hands-free over the car and traffic noises.

The only issue I have with it is since I showed it to my girlfriend she now has to send me ridiculous dirty text messages because she knows hearing the monotone Windows Phone voice read it to me is funny as hell.

Ugh. Whenever I open Zune it makes my computer slow to an absolute crawl. I quite literally can't do anything on my computer for like a minute whenever I open it. Don't know what it is either, it just started doing this like a month ago. Only program too. This is the kind of thing that almost makes me want to switch phones. Its that bad.

Are you storing your music on a Windows Home Server?

You probably have to reset the media library. A link for that tool is in the OP (check the FAQ). Just restarting the software can help, too.

Nope. All in my 500GB Hard Drive. Don't get anything like it when I load up iTunes either. Just Zune.

I use Zune on a netbook. It ain't Zune.

As a Sprint user, it'll be hard to not buy the iPhone 5 when it comes out if there aren't any Mango devices unless the iPhone 5 requires a 4G plan.

Overall, is WP7-GAF happy with their phones as opposed to an iPhone?

Yep. Except Zune sucks on it. I dislike the iOS UI

Anyone familiar with the Weave app?

I've been using the dark/black version for some time in trial mode. Today I've seen that there's also a white, free version.

both seem to offer full functionality but come with ads. Though I'm currently not sure where the ads are in the trial version.

From what I can tell there isn't really much of a difference between using dark in trial mode and using the free version... or is there?

we're all very happy. i think iOS, WP, and Android have their annoying quirks, positives, and negatives. it's just a matter of going with what's right for you.

with me, i'm annoyed that bing maps isn't as good as google maps but when i think about switching platforms and losing out on all the positives things WP brings, well, i could never switch back to android.

I'm here because I think WP 7 has the best UI.

I'm very happy with my focus software wise.. I'd like that new samsung with the SAMOLED Plus and the larger battery, though..

I couldn't go back to iOS or android at this point..

I love my Focus and the simplistic design of WP 7, it does everything that I want my phone to do. Also, I already have a couple android tablets, so it made no sense to get a phone as well.

Mango looks great. I'm up for upgrade next month with Verizon, and if they get a good WP7 phone, preferably with an OLED screen, I will probably go with it. Android is great and all, but I love the look and functionality of WP7.

Remember that generic Windows Phone from Acer? Yeah, me neither.

Paul Miller from The Verge did a hands-on at IFA and he loved it.

Dear Acer: we know you just phoned this one in, okay? You’re not fooling anybody. Like, this 3.6-inch WVGA screen: how much did you pay for that part? Ten cents? Oh, sure it’s “pretty nice for the price,” but have you ever aspired to straight-up “pretty nice”? Would that really kill you? If it’s possible to die of boredom during a hands-on preview on a tradeshow floor, I think the W4 will be the culprit. Just because you have Windows Phone 7.5 Mango and those Microsoft-prescribed internals doesn’t mean your design team gets to take the day off. Oh, and despite the fact that your only job in this whole affair was to make some capacitive buttons that don’t suck, you didn’t even succeed at that. Because the capacitive buttons suck. I suggest you click that “Read More” link and check out the hands-on shots of this phone, since you apparently didn’t bother to look at it when you were rubber-stamping it out of your factory.

Editor’s note: Paul is really tired, IFA 2011 has been a major ordeal for his delicate constitution, and he can’t really be held responsible for anything he says right now.

Everyone here knows that I'm always happy with Microsoft and the Windows Phone OS.

Happy now that I have Mango. Pre Mango was sort of frustrating. Having the dev version of Mango out and on my phone though clears up a ton of usability complaints.

Now the only issue comes straight down to apps. iOS and Android have a shit ton more. This especially comes in if you are looking for something very specific or you want a ton of games. Plus most apps are still iOS or Android lead. Mango changes a ton of shit for devs though and quiet honestly I'm not sure how possible it was to do great apps before this. To many road blocks pre Mango. Now that Mango is out it'll be interesting to see how the marketplace goes say from now till the end of the year.

I don't need a gazillion apps though. I just want the right apps and games, and I want them set at a reasonable price (something I'm not totally sold on game wise on WP7). Still I love my phone so far, and IMO one of the main reasons I got it still rings true. That's the Zune software on my PC, and Zune music player on the phone both being so visually appealing and just well cool. iOS and Android just don't have that yet for me.

PS: This is purely software wise. Hardware wise IDK... 4" is like my sweet spot in terms of screen size... my GF has a 4.3" HTC phone and I might go that high... 4.7 is to big though... and under 4 seems small now though... so unless we get a larger iPhone screen I'd probably only look towards Anrdoid
