Windows Phone 7 |OT|

T-Mobile UK are no longer selling any Win 7 phones, and both Vodafone and Orange websites gave me errors when selecting at least one of their Win 7 phones. A few months ago, I spoke to a manager at a T-Mobile store and he told me the Omnia was selling so bad they had to cut the price and were now no longer taking any more orders for stock.

:( Ouch

I ask this at PAX and Xbox Live team pretty much laugh at me and said go ask Windows Phone team. I almost get a feeling they don't really want to support Windows Phone with Live but were mandate by the higher up.

It appears they were, and IMO it shows. If I had one complaint it's XBL could be amazing on WP7, but instead just comes off as sort of half assed with a bunch of old game ports @ $3-$8 bucks.

Agreed

PAX was an excellent place to promote Windows Phone with all the geeks and nerds all carrying Android and iPhone. They did it the year before prior to launch of Windows Phone 7 but this year all they had were couple phone off to the side. The main promotion of course was Kinect which is kinda silly consider this is PAX. But then again such is Microsoft typical marketing plan.

Anyway, I love Mango and really have hard time reverting back to NoDo...

Question, I'm thinking of buying an LG Optimus 7, will I be able to update it to use Mango? If not, which phone should I get so I can take advantage of the new update?

And what's the current gaming landscape like? Similar to Android or does it resemble iPhone with regular releases/HQ games?

Every phone gets mango and WP7 is between Android and iOS in terms of gaming, I think.

Lovely avatar, btw.

Speaking of games, get this: http://wp7applist.com/en-US/app/21403/vanessa-saintpierre-delacroix-and-her-nightmare

I've become absolutely dependent on Onenote on my computers, both at home and at work. Does the mobile version of Onenote work well on a Windows phone? Easy to sync? Would it work on an Android-phone too?

It's seamless on Windows Phone. There is a section for OneNote within the Office app. I love it, it picks up all your Notes and keeps everything synced. I don't remember an Android app for OneNote, they have Evernote and some other tools. Maybe the OneNote webapp works on there, I don't know, I'll have to check it on my Nexus One.

Thanks! Onenote-integration will probably be the main factor when I eventually buy a smartphone. What about Outlook? Is it possible to sync your mails at home AND at work and see them all on your phone?

Huuuuh.

Joe Marini, from the IE Mobile team just tweeted this.

@joemarini: I just got a chance to try out one of the slickest looking #Nokia phones I have ever seen. Soon, you will too! #wp7

I don't know, hyperbole much? What's been leaked (or faked) so far wasn't really impressive. Still don't think that it will "blow my socks off", like that Nokia guy said. I want to believe.

There is an outlook app, though I don't use it. Check out the YouTube link in the previous page, lots of videos on the OS and what it can do.

Maybe it's the samsung one (SII replicant).

That's what I do. I've got my office's Exchange account synched and my hotmail attached to a different tile.

Holy laziness, Batman.

Ladies and Gents,

Samsung's newest Windows Phone with Mango, the Samsung SGH-i708

I love the Omnia 7, I really do, but that can't be all they have for Europe, right?
I think I'll get this, if Nokia disappoints

That's the second refresh we'll get with the second wave. LG and Samsung probably looked at the sales numbers and thought that no one would notice.

Update:
When asked on Twitter, he gave the phone 8 out of 10 points. He thought the screen was a bit too small (looks like it's gonna be a 3.7"-3.9" device).

@samsabri: @joemarini
how amazing was it? 1 - 10 ? 11?

@joemarini: @samsabri
Overall I would say an 8. Solid feel, good camera, responsive UI, and nice little touches on the body construction.
... the camera was good, but I didn't have optimal lighting. I'd like a larger screen too.

Wait wait, are the specs upgraded at least? Is it Super AMOLED? Windows Phone can't catch a break. Might as well go exclusive with Nokia next year.

lol wat

the only thing they changed is the rotation of the samsung logo on the back
It has a camera at the front, so I guess it has Mango specs.

You mean Super AMOLED+? I fucking hope so. If it has, I really think I'll get it.

I hate to break it to you but WP7 has a screen resolution limit of 800x480. Microsoft has made no mention that they have increased this limit and it shows by no phone going over it.

Its like you're answering a question no one asked because we all knew already. But ok.

To be fair, I would love a resolution bump myself, but in looking at the HTC Titan videos, the OS looked very good stretched out to 4.7 inches, so yeah.

Shit, I better put that in the OP ...

But seriously, I don't see your point. I think most of us here are aware of the limitation, but some still want a bigger screen and that's not limited by the resolution. HTC has the Titan with a 4.7" SLCD, Samsung's i937 is supposed to have a 4.5" or 4.7" Super AMOLED+ screen. Both of them run Mango and have a WVGA resolution. So?

So what Europe misses out?
This could be a phone for the US. Europe gets nothing. :D

I'd be perfectly happy with that Omnia 7.5, as long as it has a 1.5 GHz CPU, at least 16 GB and a SAMOLED+ screen.

Damn, wish somewhere near me was selling Omnia's off cheap as I'd have dived in no problem.

I was in a Vodafone store asking about WP7 and the guy said they didn't stock them anymore, and he told me they were rubbish. I decided to press him on why they were and he actually couldn't give me a reason as to why and just tried to bs something about the phone not working with Windows PCs.

Says it all, lots of ignorance about the platform.

Sorry I had a rough night and was reading questions that weren't even asked.

I really want to see the Nokia phone badly and the Samsung Galaxy variant.

any hardware specs?

the Omnia is a great design. just add a super amoled+ screen, updated hspa+ snapdragon, and a 32gb option and you're set. wtf with that additional hardware button though? probably proprietary Samsung video chat button or other bs.

Still not a fan of the edges of the Omnia 7. I think if they adopted some stainless steel like on the iPhone 4 and Bold 9900 it would be perfect but then Apple would just have further fuel for their lawsuit =(

Edit: No, I think the oddness of it comes from a curved back. I'm not sure what would fix it. I really just don't like the border =[

It's really the N9 with 3 capacitive buttons and Windows Phone OS.

I looks great in person and fits in the hand. It's really that good. I dislike the iPhone-like home button, but whatever.

We don't know. The FCC got this one in March. Could've been the rumored US version of the Omnia 7 or it could be a Mango phone now (FFC pre-Mango would be useless). It's weird that they published the files now, shortly before the rumored Mango roll-out. We had some rumors and mentions about a Samsung i8350 and Omnia W.

Heh, yeah that's the one other bit I don't like. The iPhone-like home button is really ugly. I likes me the N9-style phone. Too bad the chances of it hitting here soon are slim to none x.x

HTC users are lucky. The final Mango roms for the Trophy, 7 Pro, HD7 and Mozart leaked.

Windows Phone enthusiasts at XDA-developers have posted several ROMs for a variety of HTC devices. Final Mango roms are now available for the HTC HD7, HTC 7 Trophy, Verizon HTC 7 Trophy and the HTC 7 Pro. The release of final HTC bits comes just days after a HTC Mozart final ROM leaked. Microsoft is expected to start pushing the update to handsets in the next few weeks but eager HTC owners can opt for the risky process of using a leaked ROM in the mean time. Pocketnow notes that users should be wary of related RSPL/HSPL from flashing a leaked ROM.

Maaaan, that stuff never happens with LG phones. :( (at least I can dev unlock my phone whenever I want and for free :P)
