Since I don't have a WP7 yet, I can't say how integrated Bing really is, but from what I saw it looked like the dedicated search button is just a launcher for the Bing app on the phone. Is this correct? If that's the case, than it's a pretty lame excuse.

There is no Bing "app", if that's what you mean. Only way you can access Bing is through the search button.

You can list features all you want, but the fact is that Exchange support on my Windows Phone 7 means that I can actually send freaking e-mail from my phone without it totally screwing up formatting. That one thing alone that the iPhone cannot do makes it better IMO.

Same thing goes for flagging e-mail items for follow-up.

I have no idea what you’re experiencing, but my formatting has always been fine. You must be experiencing some sort of bug with your exchange setup.

Also, I was just listing the compatibility chart for brotkasten. Not just for kicks.

It's a 100% guarantee, not a bug, that every single e-mail sent from an iPhone in response to other e-mail on my work Exchange server will be formatted horrendously. Apple does not follow Exchange protocol on how to handle reply e-mails.

What happens is that, in Outlook, the iPhone causes everything to be indented, all fonts and formatting are lost, and it just overall looks horrible.

Windows Phone 7 formats everything perfectly.

I've had no problems with formatting. My company uses an exchange account and so do most of our clients.

The update issue is (for me, at least) because it's a paid app that you're trying out. If you're running a trial, it won't update. Might be able to reinstall to get the most recent version, but it seems to be related to having a trial version.

Do you get some sort of error when syncing your gamer tag?
My gamertag is on one live id, my personal emails on another. It doesn't allow me to migrate my GT. MS has been trying for 2 months. They have no idea how to fix it...

Hmm, I noticed that on a few of my work colleagues email's...

How can it not be a bug if the issue isn’t affecting everyone else? It’s a problem with either the firmware the phone is using, your particular Exchange server, or Outlook.

I know it's beating a dead horse at this point but skimping on HTML5 really introduces its share of problems, one of them being the YouTube thing. Hopefully Microsoft can change their roadmap a bit and get HTML5 support out before the release of Mango.

dlmn8r works for Microsoft or at least he did... somehow I doubt his exchange server is fucked...

er :lol typo. I meant that it *IS* a bug in how Apple handles Exchange e-mails on the iPhone

Any email chain that went over ten replies on my iPhone would turn into a tiny unreadable messed. So far things are much better on my WP7, we'll see when a big email chain kicks up though.

While you haven't experienced it there is a huge formatting issue on the iPhone. (Which is to say huge for an Apple hater like me, not a big deal to a lot of the general populace.)

Note: the last section is listed in the Apple PDF as "Other Exchange ActiveSync services" - it doesn't mean WP7 can't do them.

For example, the following I have personally verified with my WP7...

1. Supports Global Address List look-ups - start typing a name not in your contacts list and an option appears..."Search XYZ email directory"

2. Support creating calendar invites (from the calendar) and accepting from within email

3. it syncs Reply and Forward flags (whether I reply/forward on the desktop or phone)

4. (seems to only search contents of local emails - would be nice if it gave an option to do a server-side search)

5. I have multiple Exchange ActiveSync accounts set-up (three to be exact) on WP7

6. Dunno about Certificates

7. Can set it to sync specific sub-folders automatically

8. Not sure what AutoDiscover is, but one of my Exchange accounts was set-up automatically with just my email address and password entered - no server URL or anything else needed to be entered.

Also, when connecting to one of the accounts, it enforced "password on device" - so I had to create a PIN to get into my phone.

IMO, the phone supports the common policies/features needed to be used within most companies.

Blame Paul Thurrott man. That was direct copy/paste from him.

Windows Phone 7 is also annoying in that there's no password grace period for PINs. Unlike the iPhone where you could set it to 5-10 minutes where you don't need to enter your password again, on WP7 you can lock the phone and instantly unlock it, and it requires you to enter your password.

Hopefully something they address sooner rather than later.

I know someone is going to be happy about this. :D

The Xbox Live Extras app will get an update next week.
New countries, new languages!

We’re making Xbox LIVE Extras available in new languages including French, Italian, German, and Spanish. This also means that Xbox LIVE Extras will now be available in all the official countries where Windows Phone and Xbox LIVE are available!

Manage friend requests inside Xbox LIVE Extras!

You’ll now be able to accept, or reject friend requests inside of Xbox LIVE Extras. additionally you’ll be able to manage your friends’ lists as well as requests to others.

Even more additional features!

We’ve also added a bunch of additional features such as new Avatar animations and configuration options, and displaying your motto on your profile. We’ve also worked to improve overall stability of the application!

Do you need to activate a WP7 via Zune before you can use it?

I've had my phone for a month now and I haven't connected it up to my laptop once.

I've set-up email accounts, hooked it up to facebook & skydrive, downloaded apps and uploaded pictures - all from the phone w/o any desktop sync.

And I never saw that Activation Requried screen.

(BTW, I don't have a Zune subscription and I don't use my phone for music.)

I guess I can finally join the club :D

I'm posting this from my new LG Optimus 7.
It's not my dream phone (Omnia 7 <3) and it's a carrier phone, but it's unlocked, has full warranty, it's imo the second best device out there and I got it on eBay for €237 :D

I like it.

Congrats. Now buy Crackdown!

Sweet, flash your phone's ROM to that of another coming soon?

XDA-Dev hacker ansar.ath.gr have created the first “cooked” windows phone 7 ROM by flashing the imgfs.bin of the HTC Schubert and HTC MOndrian to the HTC HD7.
While the hack does not introduce any new features, there is the possibility of porting the ROM from one OEM, such as the LG Optimus 7, to a device by another OEM, such as the HTC HD7, bringing along features like DLNA and free apps.
Follow the progress of the hack, which is currently in embryonic form.

Woah I forgot about crackdown. Didn't even know it was out!
I have to buy this one and Puzzle Quest 2 tonight. Now that I finally have the Xbox Live Extras I can enjoy those games even more!

If you're in the US and bought a WP7, good for you!

Microsoft is giving away some Xbox 360 games (Kinectimals, Joy Ride, Fable 3, Halo: Reach).
https://microsoft.promo.eprize.com/windows7redemption/

Oh, right. Microsoft also updated the WP7 connector for Mac. Here's the change log:
New features:

Purchased audio content is synced from device
New device setup experience
Browse device now supports manual import from device, delete from device and preview.

Improvements and fixes:

Performance improvements in sync process
Photos are now organized by their iPhoto event if present and by album otherwise
Improved video preparation process
Improved support for pin lock and unlock of device
Improved meta data transfer settings (bookmarks, rating and release dates and now transferred)
Fixed issue with remote iTunes installations
Fixed issue with .AAC and certain .MP4 files not playing on device
Apple Lossless encoded files are no longer synced as they are unsupported on device. They will be ignored like protected content. Please convert these files, as necessary.
Improved support for iPhoto 11.

You can find the download link in the OP.

I knew this would come back and bite me.

My old Live ID is an US account I'm using for Xbox Live, Zune and MyPhone on WM6. It has all my Gamer Score, Zune plays and pictures and texts from my old phone. It was my main Live ID after all. Now I'm not in the US and using my new Live ID for my Windows Phone. I can't use or access anything and it sucks. Of course I could use my old US ID again, but I'm not using the mail account anymore and I couldn't pay for the apps in the marketplace. Microsoft can't do anything about this. They can't migrate my stuff or merge the accounts.

I'm syncing the stuff from my old phone to my new Live ID. I hope it works.

HTC makes GSM HTC 7 Pro official

HTC has not made any formal announcements about the GSM version of their HTC 7 Pro landscape slider, but a web page with specifications of the device has gone live.
The handset weights in at 185 g, slightly beefier than the already heavy HTC Touch Pro 2, and also features a 3.6 inch screen. At 15.5 mm it is however marginally thinner than the 16.5mm HTC Touch Pro 2, but otherwise has about the same dimensions.
Of most interest to American readers is however the supported frequencies, and those readers will likely be disappointed, with the device only supporting HSDPA on the 900 and 2100 European and Asian frequencies.
Other specs of note is the 1500 mAh battery, 5 megapixel camera and 8 GB storage.

I can do this.
I believe in myself.

Being cheap helps no doubt.

I'm sure you can. I mean, WP7 is pretty awesome and it's fun and everything. But I know you can do this! I'm gonna enjoy WP7 for both of us. :D

btw, is there a way to disable some Windows Live contacts in my People hub without deleting them?

That's dissapointing. My tp2 already feels like a tank and the 7 pro is almost the same, apparently. I'll wait for the no-keyboard version.
The version without a keyboard would be the Mozart or Trophy.

So uh supposedly they updated the Mac sync client for those that uh care (which might be 2 people in the whole world who aren't testers/bloggers). LOL

Except those are GSM phones.

Fuck. Even though I don't want to do this, I'll have to wait for a keyboard less version of windows phone or a keyboard that uses a smaller footprint for CDMA. FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUU
