Not too huge? Every podcast I listen to was over the 20MB limit -.- I had to jailbreak just to download podcasts. Otherwise it would stream and most of the time the stream would die due to some reason or another and I'd have to find the point I was at again.

Yeah, it was mostly NPR Science Friday and BBC FOOC podcasts that I could download, but better than nothing, and of course you could download whatever over wifi. Certainly nothing to scoff at either way.

Yes, even over 3g if they are audio podcasts and not too huge.

Edit: If Dell fixed up the issues with the Venue Pro and its headed to AT&T, I don't see how that's not the phone to get. AMOLED screens are very nice, and it's bigger than the Focus', plus it looks much better and that keyboard will likely be useful when they fix word with copy/paste and we get Dropbox.
There's a dropbox client in the marketplace for $3.99.
http://wp7applist.com/app/4346/Kickbox:+A+Dropbox+Client

It came out yesterday and doesn't have any user reviews yet, but I found this at WMPowerUser:
Yes, this app is four dollars. But hey, it works! It has the same features as BoxFiles, except it lacks the ability to move files into different folders. You can upload pictures from your phone to your Dropbox account. You can open Word, PowerPoint, Excel, PDF, Text, and Music files, and they actually open, unlike BoxFiles. Right now, due to restrictions in WP7, you can’t upload any documents other than pictures, so that means you can’t actually edit Word documents and save them back to Dropbox. Overall, until BoxFiles gets its many issues resolved, Kickbox is your best Dropbox application.

Big screens are overrated. Especially when they are accompanied by a decrease in dpi. The WP7 software keyboard is arguably the best on mobile phones right now. I don't see the point in gaining an increase in bulk and weight for a hardware keyboard.

I wish the leaked Sony phones turned out to be real :(. Retina like display, hard (not capacitive) home buttons, optical zoom... The only things missing hardware wise from making it the perfect phone are a mute button and an LED notifications light.

Not true at all, sorry. I don't know what sony phones you are talking about, but they do sound nice. In the meantime, a 4.3 inch screen and keyboard sound nice. And I'm using swype right now which is great, but sometimes the tactile nature of physical keyboards are what I crave.

Came to a Focus from an iPhone. Don't think I can go back to a smaller screen now.

I'm pretty happy with my Optimus 7. It's not too light and the 3.8" screen is big enough for me.

Random WP7 question: Is it possible to disable the shutter sound of the camera? It's annoying.

You can, but like everything WP7 sound wise it requires muting the phone.

In terms of size 4" is the sweet spot IMO. 4.3" devices seem slightly too large while on the flip side I really dislike going back to my relative's iphones because they just seem extremely small.

On a side note I think we should all take pics of our lock screens and share them! I'll try and post mine later today.

I agree the lack of over wifi download is baffling because there are days (well nights) that I get up late and forgot to sync my phone and get to work and have nothing to listen to.

I got PODCAST! app and that let you stream and work pretty well for me for those night that I forget to download podcast.

As for screen size, coming from iPhone I thought Focus was huge but now I love it. I am not sure how I feel about Venue Pro with all the production problems I would be leary about getting one. The spec on that phone though is awesome, amoled, vertical pull out keyboard, nice looking design. ASUS is rumor to have a phone coming and it looks pretty nice.

And yeah, my Flixster finally got Live tile going. Now when is the zune going to properly download covers for the podcasts ...

The while background look good also but when I switch to that my battery drain twice as fast ... so it's going to be black for me due to super AMOLED .

I thought the shutter noise was a legal requirement or something?

Just ordered a Samsung Omnia 7. Is there some kind of cliff notes website (aside from the OP) I could look into tips and tricks for this phone?

Only in Japan. This is one of those user 'problems' where the WP7 jailbreak could have been useful :/

so nokia is rumored to be in negotiations to make wp7 phones. any nokia fans here? i'd like to see it happen, nokia's flagship phones have excellent cameras and like all nokias, have great voice quality.

Has Nokia ever made a good smartphone before?

A portable bluetooth keyboard would be the best of both worlds.

Here is the rumor Sony denied:

You'd probably get the former and I the latter.

Just copy and pa... I don't think so. :lol

I always got the impression that Symbian sucked, not the hardware.

Nokia makes very solid hardware. Its just stuck on a OS that seems generations behind the rest. And instead of ditching the piece of shit, they throw copious amounts of glitter on top of it hoping people won't notice.

Their e72 rivals the BB keyboard. And does the design of these phones released in 2007 remind you of anything?

Great phones with a old OS, Nokia needs to evolve quickly or jump on the WP7 or the Android ship.

It would be a great idea and would give wp7 a massive boost..... really they should have given nokia half of that 500 million marketing campaign to put wp7 on their phones.

You're probably in the US or i'll think you are trolling:
Nokia Communicator: first real smartphone.
Nokia E-Series: Business smartphone awesomely sturdy (E61, E71) with mail for exchange, Word, excel and Powerpoint edition out of the box, SIP Client, P2T with lot of available form factor, etc...

Nokia has done real smartphone since nearly a decade, it's just that we were stuck in Dark Age thanks to all those gimmicky products of the last years and we are actually only arriving to the Renaissance of the smartphone.

I hope not.

Nokia's been flagging pretty bad recently, but signing-on for WP7... I don't wanna think about it.

Is there a Words with Friends clone for Win Phone 7?

AlphaJax looks good, there needs to be an ad supported version though... For a game like this to be big, you gotta get as many people as you can to get it, and charging $3 isn't going to do it. I bet if it was free it'd be one of the top games.

I've used my N93 for about three years and it's (probably) the best phone I've ever used. This was more than four years ago and it could do everything I needed (word, excel, powerpoint, wlan, optical zoom). Such a great device.

Just bought the Samsung Focus. Loving it so far after a couple of hours of messing around with it. Was wondering if anyone could recommend a lite weight case for it. I was also wondering if there is a way to lock the keys while playing games. It is way to easy to exit out of things unintentionally.

This is awesome if true :D I love nokia phones

the Nokia n900 is pretty much my dream phone, but it had such a shitty OS I just ignored it lol...

nokia-n900-5.jpg

I have a nokia phone for work, N97mini, the OS and touch screen are pretty darn bad compared to my WP7.

Damn, I need a data plan for my WP7. :lol Surfing wasn't such a big deal on my Touch Diamond, especially not with Opera Mini. I'm glad my provider offers 1GB for €10 per month. That should be enough for now.

I finally got my focus in today! I chickened out though and didn't put in the sd card, lol. I really am liking the hubs now that they have my data, synced in my music and some videos and its all good so far. The browser is nice but of course is the weakpoint when coming from IOS and Android. I got most of my favorite apps, and I'll wait for the rest. Can't wait for the January update.

Some questions from my first day as a WP7 user:

1. I did a quick search but didn't find anything: Is there any way to check remaining battery as a percentage or anything other than the battery icon at the top?

2. Can I sync with more than one computer at a time? I have Zune at work, and I'd like to sync some podcasts with that machine, in case I don't have time in the morning to grab some, plus I made some pretty sweet playlists at work. I know for iPhone you pretty much were locked to one computer for specific stuff like media, calendar, photos, etc.

3. Has Google said anything about their support for this platform? I really loved using stuff like Listen, SkyMap, Shopper, etc.? I know they have Search on the market already, which is a good sign.

1. Not that I'm aware of.

2. Yes you can, I do it all the time, however I manual sync so your mileage etc. . . For Podcasts I use Podcast!.app which is great when I'm on the road and can't get to any comp.

3. I have no clue sorry.

I'd probably use iOS apps as a standard for what Google will put on other platforms. They also do a lot of web-compatible HTML5 stuff.

This post is relevant for every Zune and WP7 user outside the US

This is pretty old, I knew it was out there and I finally found it again.

Rafael Rivera, the author of the awesome WithinWindows blog, found a way to unlock location restricted features in the Zune 4.0 software right after launch. One of those features is the podcast marketplace.

It also unlocks more features, but I think the podcast marketplace is the most relevant feature for the EFIGS states.

Here's the full list:
Quickplay
Marketplace
Picks
Videos
MusicVideos
Podcasts
Channels
Games
SubscriptionFreeTracks
SignInAvailable (allows restricted locales to sign in!)
FirstLaunchIntroVideo
MBRRental
MBRPurchase
MBRPreview

All you have to do is to launch this reg script, restart the Zune software and you have access to the Podcasts marketplace.

There's the original article: Restore Zune 4.0’s “missing” features

e: Updated the OP.

I'm always cautious about "enabling" restricted features. What is the reason that they were restricted in the first place?

EDIT: I'm an idiot, thought your bolded was directed AT US/Canada users :lol

You can check battery % on the focus by accessing the system config menu. not really intended for normal use.

from http://www.wpcentral.com
Epic games, creators of popular Unreal series (head shot!) and even more popular Gears of War, has been busy porting their amazing Unreal Engine 3 to mobile devices like the iPhone and evidently Android (soon).
All of this begs asking the question what about Windows Phone 7? After all, Epic games has a pretty cozy relationship with Microsoft and the Xbox universe, not to mention PC gaming. Between that relationship and knowing the Unreal Engine works well on mobile, what's the holdup?
No surprise, but it's Microsoft, despite Epic games asking them to be allowed native access, or as Mark Rein of Epic Games has said "They've been nudged but so far nothing". That's sort of a bummer, but as noted by Examiner, it's still early and Microsoft is probably busy doing all of those other fixes. But lets hope that Microsoft and Epic team up sooner than later for some mobile gaming bliss.

I used Incipio Feathercase and I really like it. Only gripe is that the camera button can be hard to push (they were not easy to push in the first place).

Here is a picture of mine phone (it's somewhere in this thread a few pages back)

For carry on I just pick up genetic phone case and it works well (not to mention cheap)

I used to have one of those InvisiShield on it but after a month of use, I prefer the phone without it so I took them off.

That's really cute. A star wars theme would be really neat. I hope MS allow for more customization. I did the Tron theme and it was fun.

The picture photo app on Samsung markeplace is actually pretty good and fun to play with.

I have a little scare today with the phone, I unlock it and the phone seems to have revert back to original state (ie all my data was gone) but when I reboot it everything came back. That was not a good feeling to have. I was in one of the app prior the phone went to sleep so may be that's what cause the glitch.

I think if MS really want this platform to succeed they really need to push out update and bugfix quicker. There are a lot of little annoying glitch that really need to be address, like the marketplace or zune app hang. That is really unacceptable for today app-craze market to have your marketplace and music app crash and need a reboot of the phone.

They updated the Facebook app to support places and photo tagging. Also looks like the text in the notification area is larger so you can actually click the links.

Still behind the other platforms but its nice to see it in active development.
