I'm not calling the WP7 hardware mediocre compared to an iPhone 3G. I'm calling it mediocre compared to what the competition is offering at the same price. Don't get me wrong, I'm 100% in for WP7. The apps that I consider essential just aren't where they need to be.
We have this debate in every smartphone thread. There will always be something else, there will always be something faster, there will always be greener grass.

I too share your views though that last years Snapdragon are underwhelming and that the apps need some more development, but Microsoft truly has a gem on their hands.

I've got another couple of months to wait and see if Android 3.x is worth moving from my 3GS to whatever phone is out by there at the time. I'm hoping that when these phone launch, Microsoft develops the crap out of the Marketplace and games/apps that can be used for customizing the phone.

Should be an interesting 6 months or so.

What did you order?
Friday :))

Also I thought it's be nice to create a blog focusing solely on wp7games. I'll constantly update it with reviews of games that are out on the marketplace and news of games coming out. I looked for a site that did this but when I couldn't find a dedicated one, I thought I'd make one :lol Not sure on the rules of pimping out your own blog, so no link...

Also if anybody would be interested in helping, give me a pm ^_^

Have there been any proper reviews of the Venue Pro yet? I'm curious to see what the difference b/w the AMOLED on the Dell and the SAMOLED on the Samsungs (if any).

Even the release date of November 8th is just a rumour. They haven't sent anything out yet I don't think.

After reading reviews/impression, really excited to get my Focus. I'm also extremely impressed with Zune (first time user)--completely embarrasses iTunes.

Every review I read mentions that the start screen doesn't work in landscape mode. Maybe it's because I have a 3G but doesn't the iPhone not work in landscape? Nor the Android.

Why does EVERY reviewer seem to harp on this point that jsut doesn't make sense?

It really is kinda funny how much better it is..... you would almost think itunes came from microsoft and zune came from apple with the way they look and function.

I am not 100% sold yet on the dell venue pro..... Since I decided to switch carriers regardless (from sprint) I am leaning tmobile because they are cheaper but am going to go to the at&t store and try out the focus (because the focus and venue pro seem to be the best us launch devices and if I do not hear anything by the 8th in terms of hard release date that is not too far off I may just choose the focus)

I don't understand why people think a 1ghz snapdragon is underwhelming, sure the newer chips have a better gpu but in the end that isn't going to make a massive difference to most games considering they will be iphone ports anyway and that is one damn fast processor and is more than enough minimum power for a platform, I mean it wasn't long ago when nearly all android handsets ran on 600mhz processors and people were drooling over them!

I bought my HD2 from Handtec last year all the way from the UK to Australia, let me say now that it is the best online retail site I have EVER used, simply because of their customer support alone which is just fantastic.

You won't be disappointed!

Well, I've had my WP7 (HTC HD7) on O2 in the UK since Friday...I came from an Android handset before that.

Basically, it's pure awesomeness. It's slick, its not cluttered, and as a big Xbox user, the gaming side of things is just fantastic.

The UI just feels really good to use, and the Zune player is so much better than anything I've used on a phone before (Never been an iphone user, so feel free to shoot me down on that one)

The screen on my HD7 is super responsive, and huge obviously. The HD 720P Videos are mostly smooth, and the camera seems great. All in all, I love it. The UI really feels alive, and not static like other phones.

Very pleased. Just need updates to the Xbox Live Extras App (Which was crashing on all HTC handsets and has since been pulled from the Marketplace pending a patch which is in the works) as well as decent youtube/flash and built in twitter support. (Twitter has an app, but I mean so that it integrates with your phonebook, just like Facebook and Windows Live)

You can not upgrade storage size for the Omnia.
Then I better get a 16gig one. :(

That's great.

Thanks bro.

Can you give feedback on the voice commands?

Specifically, I want to know if you can voice launch into an app from the lock screen.

This MS video shows you can make calls from the lock screen, but I'm curious about opening email, browser, or whatever without unlocking.

Voice commands worked fine for me, no setting up - just hold the windows button and then speak...but I couldn't get it to work from the lock screen...at all. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Gah... waiting for that text from Orange is hell. Even my boss is pretty excited to see it in operation - he's on an HTC WinMo 6.5 handset and is pretty interested in the upgrade. Made it easier to arrange a dash home too...

Unless there's a phone called Friday I'm unaware of. :D
Yeah the Apple Friday, exclusive to wp7. Comes with a 100MP camera and 1TB of storage space :p

lol read it wrong, ordered an Omnia 7 on Friday. Still no dispatch email.. The wait is killing me.

Android works in landscape.

So its a setting on the phone? How do you get the start screen to rotate?
Of course not and you don't. I just said that WP7 supports it, like iOS on the iPhone. It doesn't mean you can do it.

So how the hell is that relevant to this discussion?
There's no point in criticizing the lack of landscape support on the home screen. Just because you can do it, it doesn't mean it makes sense. What's the benefit of the Android home screen in landscape format?

If you have a QWERTY device it is easier to navigate between apps while the keyboard is extended. Also any Android device can have landscape home screens with the LauncherPro app.

Did some twitter digging and apparently they sent out Venue Pros to regional Dell corporate offices in the US. This means media sites shouldn't be Toooo far behind.

Also unconfirmed 100% but The Shack has a date for November 8th .

I think there are some legitimate uses, especially in larger screen devices. But that's besides the point, since I was only pointing out that android COULD do it to someone who said it couldn't, not that it was vital for me (it isn't).

I see and I think ep85 made a pretty good point with the landscape qwerty users, but I guess it would suit the Metro UI at all. The Venue Pro is a portrait slider for that very reason.

btw, this is how the WP7 home screen looks in landscape.

It's a grid of icons (something that MS doesn't like).

That's interesting. I think Engadget already has it, since Topolsky, the editor in chief, got a suspicious birthday present from Microsoft's Aaron Woodman on the last Engadget Show. :D Would be nice to finally have a proper review.

i think the dell venue pro will be available at launch date in the us but not through t-mobile.
that would be a bad move on T-Mobile's part. Die hard customers would simply buy it out of contract, which means they lose out on an opportunity to lock them in for another one or two years.

that said, I think it will hit Nov 8th or maybe a week later.

Did you change the settings like they show in the video?

so far, all indications point to t-mobile not fully supporting the venue pro. it isn't even on their website. it's just a blurb in their HD7 press release. t-mobile probably isn't quite completely sold on the windows phone platform, not to mention the dell aero phone did quite poorly with att.

whatever the case, hope it's available at launch through dell.com or elsewhere.

That worries me as well.... we really should have some info by now if it was going to make the nov 8 launch (along with some reviews)

however your Samsung i8700 Omnia 7 is not in stock at the moment.

We expect it to be available again within 10-15 working days, so we are going to temporarily hold-off from processing your credit check until it is back in stock.

As soon as it arrives we will process your order, send you an email, and ship your phone for next-day delivery.

buymobilephones.net :( Expected as much as theirs are t-mobile
