Still waiting for MS to fix the Xbox Live Extras App...waiting waiting waiting. Some of the live games are really good - Rocket Riot is a blast, and actually controls better on my phone than on my 360.

Is it out in the US yet?

EDIT: I meant all the phones, rather than the game.
What does the XBL Extras app actually do?

TANGENT ALERT!
The wifi network at work is pretty crappy and requires guest logins. I've got full admin rights to my work PC; is there a USB dongle or something I can buy that will use the connection on the work PC to provide a configurable wifi access point?

Can someone help me confirm whether you can sync whole notebooks to the WP7 OneNote app? And also what happens when you open a notebook on sharepoint? And how do sharepoint lists work on the phone?

I know very little people even have access to sharepoint so ;(.

Watching this episode, he is asking really hard hitting questions. Although they kind of laughed off why the US got the Focus instead of the Omnia.

Is it that hard is it to remember "Omnia 7"?

Glad to see a third party use a live tile.

I would think that more developers will add the feature as they get acclimated to the platform. A weather app is a no brainer. I surprised weather.com didn't use it.

No, it's not. Same with "Windows Phone 7". Why is it so hard to remember the correct order of the words? It's the second thing I addressed in the OT/OP and it's obviously in the title and yet, so many people still write or say Windows 7 Phone. WHY?! It doesn't run Windows 7, ffs!

Ugh, stuff like that makes me crazy.

Many apps are rushed to market. I guess the next versions of the important apps will support live tiles.

i've been under the impression that you can pin nearly anything as a tile. it's up to the developers if they want to add animations and notifications to the tile itself. so yeah, i expect this to be a very common thing. heck, all apps should do some kind of animation.

You can add any program as a tile, but programmers currently can't add animations to them. Currently the only way to change them is by push notifications (which is beyond the scope of most apps), or by creating a schedule (change the tile at fixed moments, but has many restrictions). It's currently not possible to just display data from your app on the tile. I hope we get to do this soon, because it's one of the key features of the UI.

Why do we not have a phone that looks like this? I'd so buy...

Amazon.co.uk lists the Venue Pro unlocked for £499. Shipping date is November 8th.

I wonder what the US date will be. Is TMo US' 3G network compatible with the EU frequencies?
Seen a lot of news sites reporting on Amazon and Expansys listing this phone. Feel sorry for Clove listing it at £440 and getting no attention!

Just looked at the API for that, and it is strange that they only allow you to update the tile on a schedule with remote images.

:lol

But really.... Pretty interesting:

Microsoft forgets MAC address information in Windows Phone 7
This is because Microsoft is not telling users what their MAC address is within the Windows Phone 7 operating system.

A number of users tend to implement MAC address filtering for security on their routers; this means that they can stop anyone accessing their network unless they have the correct MAC address. This is one an additional way of making sure you are as secure as possible at home and in businesses. Some universities such as those in Cambridge require students to provide the computer offices of the MAC addresses of their devices before they will connect them up to the w-fi networks, another problematic issue for users.

http://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-forgets-mac-address-information-in-windows-phone-7?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

Most likely a software update, but come on MS.

Here's a little series I'm starting up on my blog, not sure if it's cool to pimp out own blog so I'll remove link if mods disapprove :3

http://wp7gamers.blogspot.com/2010/10/top-10-xbla-ig-games-i-want-on-wp7.html

Top 10: XBLA & IG games I want on wp7
While I'm waiting on my phone to be delivered (grrrr t-mobile) I thought I start up a series on which XBLA and Xbox Indie games I'd like to be ported to Windows Phone 7.

Starting today I'd like to do a post a day.

Number 10: Trials HD

Basically, WTF is it?
You're on a dirt bike and you have to get over some shit to reach the end. It's physics based and pretty hard.

Why do I want it?
Pick up and play for just one go, then another, and another. This would be perfect to play in short bursts and when you have the time, you could properly sit down and try get one millisecond shaved of your best time to beat your friends high score.

How could it be shit?
My one problem is the the game at the later levels requires some precision so how that would work on the touch screen phones I don't know, maybe utilise the tilt sensors?

Also the game doesn't get frustrating due to the constant dying because of the instant restarts. With smaller horsepower under the hood of the phones, even with a second of loading between deaths after a while will piss you off.

Watch the trailer and see why I want it.

What XBLA games would you like to be ported to the Windows Phone 7 platform? Drop us a comment.

Uhm. Isn't it required to be on some sticker that comes with the phone?
It has been like that with every network capable device i've owned.

fwiw i can't find it in software on my symbian phone.
Well, most nerds will care about it for mac filtering and some schools require it for Wi-Fi authentication.

Me personally... I could care less since I've got WPA2 at home w/ no mac filtering and a fairly lengthly password. Seems like it's a fairly easy fix though and doesn't really break the performance of the phone unless you're dependent on Wi-Fi and have crap cell reception.

Most nerds would be able to find the mac address of their phones in a minute or so ;)

I'm pretty sure it's some fcc requirement that the mac address is on a sticker somewhere in the phone or on the packaging.

Using google i found out that pressing *#62209526# is the only way (outside the stickers) that gives me the mac address on my phone. Logic!

Nicely done sir. :D

Not sure how many WP7 devs are here, but Microsoft has been a lot more "picky" about submissions since the APAC + EU launch.

We got version 1.1 of our app rejected because of "issues" that were also in the 1.0 version, which was approved in 24 hours.

Just wondering but can you elaborate on what issues you are talking about? Id be interested to know what kind of stuff they are rejecting now. Specifically if they are taking a look at the performance of apps now that a few reviews called them out on it.

Yeah as others have said the Samsung Omnia is close. The bigger problem is why da fuck didn't that shit come over to America.

I've said my piece on the fucking slate of AT&T phones already though.

I too am wondering this. It was obvious this was an issue across the board, and Josh had no problems harping on this multiple times on the Engadget Show with the MS guy there.

I wonder if MS have decided they'll give out better support for development, but in return up their standards for approval.

why not just request a PAC code?
That means not sticking with Orange, and I've always sort of rated them. That said, now that them and T-Mobile are sharing masts I could always swap to them.

In reality, I doubt it'll be too much of a problem when I call them.

Any chance of MS coming out with their own phone? That looks like the Mock one they have been using to demo?
I don't think so. The partners wouldn't be happy about this. You'll probably get a new Zune running WP7, but that's it.

I'm thinking its more likely they wanted to get the numbers of for launch and marketing purposes so they let anything in :P

MS saw what happened with the Nexus One and probably became instantly more wise about doing something like that.

Is there a Pandora app available yet? Can't seem to find a link to browse whats in the WP7 marketplace?
it's been spoken of before but still nothing. ms knows it's a big deal though and i'm sure there are plenty of phone users who won't go with a smartphone if it doesn't have pandora. i have the feeling though that pandora hasn't been released yet because it's working on being one of the first multi-tasking 3rd party apps.

But Miscrosoft has their own retail and support stores now. The biggest problems with the Nexus One were it was only sold online and 'support' was a useless automated email system. At first I laughed at the Microsoft for blatantly ripping off the Apple Stores, yet with none of the flair, but Windows Phone 7 appears to be something you could display in an Apple Store and people would play with it. (Needs more virginial white and less Darth Vader black for an Apple store though :lol )

ok so a few notes:
Apps have the ability to load unsigned DLLs, and also create and load custom ringtones. No idea why noone has thought up of an app for it. I should... *Orders WP7 devkit* Get your .99 cents ready, boys!

We got caught on a performance issues, yes, but it was related to an specific device that had less memory (or something like that)

We also got caught on the "if you press back on the first screen of the app it should ALWAYS quit the app"

Gotta say:

I don't want a new iphone after getting a bit over mine.

That said, I want a windows phone but the one thing that's holding me back? Hipstamatic. I really love it on the iphone.

Almost a deal breaker. I don't really use my iphone for apps/etc but hipstamatic is the one thing I do use.

You guys think they'd make a port?
