I'm pretty happy it was my whining post that got them to set the camera issue straight, lol. I'm disappointed as heck, but like I told Brian, its better to know, good or bad, than be held in limbo. Same applies to anything else they may be keeping from us.

Why the fuck would you NOT want anti shake on or 720p video? I get it if you want to default the camera flash to auto and the other settings to normal, but I don't see a single reason why you would never want anit shake on or you'd want vga video recording. Just baffles me honestly.

Simple solution would be "favorite setting" for the phone. I am not sure why that is so hard to implement.

Having your own default makes a lot of sense. If you're capable of making one then you're capable of understanding why it gets used.

Yeah, this is what I think.

Also, It would be nice to have a option to tap the screen to take a picture. My wife complains that 9 out of 10 picutres are blurry because she can hold the Focus still while pushing the little camera button all the way.

thanks for the feedback vanmardigan. regarding the camera settings: it was a decision by the team thinking that if you pulled the phone out to take a quick pic, it would be better to know it was always in a default setting rather than having to remember what the settings were the last time you took a picture, so shooting for predictability. That said, feedback from folks like you has the team seriously looking at that option to see if there is a more optimal option. thanks again..

Errrr....wowsers.

I need to figure out what to rant about next, but I think we pretty much know a little about everything else.

On the other hand, I was at meetings for the past two days, drowning in a sea of professionals with androids, bb's, and iPhones. I was the only one there with wp7, but my phone easily got the most attention with the fresh interface. Plus, OneNote is hands down one of the best tools for meetings.

I really feel like, once mango comes around, I'll be pretty much done wanting things on wp7. That mwc demo showed me all I want going forward, aside from IM. Barring a complete collapse of the ecosystem, I'll be here a while.

i hear ya. i think there's something to rant about for every damn platform. so i'm gonna keep my ranting to a minimum. seeing the dell road map shows me that the mango update will probably happen closer to summer than late in the year.

I will be very surprised if the update happens before oct/nov.... I think the slider part on the roadmap is to allow them to have some leeway in when ms/google will announce their stuff.

I am in this camp as well but really want to see some innovation with xbox live multiplayer (like they did on consoles). That imo is the one area they can destroy android and ios but can't wait forever.

I really thought we would see some cross platform games (ilomilo would be a good example) where you can play a level on the phone and have it marked as played on the console, no xbox live game has turn by turn multiplayer, etc.

As for the IM.... I really think we have not seen all that will be in mango. I expect to see MSN integration and bing turn by turn navigation (maybe with ovi) to be in mango. That will really "catch up" features wise with android/ios.

big thread, are there any tips to getting wifi sync to work? Zune is installed and can access the marketplace. WP7 is on the same wifi network and can also access the internet. But I connect up via USB and zune says 'cannot connect to router'

Even beyond this though. I don't even see why turning on anti shake is an option. Why the fuck wouldn't that be just hardcoded to be always one? Why wouldn't you just record in 720p and that's that? I don't even see the need for even having vga as an option, and even more perplexing is why you'd ever want to turn anti shake off.

For what its worth, anti-shake is OEM specific (I don't believe its on HTC phones). Samsung could have made it default. In fact, one of the chevron guys on twitter said that OEMs have control over the default settings. Maybe VGA is default because so many of the phones are only 8 GB.

Quick question about the Zune software. Is there any kind of equalizer? Music sounds so much better when I play music in other programs compared to what it sounds like when I play it in Zune. I'd like to have Zune my main music program, but without a working equalizer this is pretty much impossible.

I don't think there's one. It's strange that it sounds much better with other players, when Zune just plays the music as it is. Can't you use the EQ from your sound card?

The first time you set it up, you have to plug in the phone and enable WiFi sync on the Zune software with the phone plugged in. Then, for it to work, the phone needs to be on WiFi AND plugged in to a power source. The software needs to be running and the PC the software is on needs to be connected to the same network as the WiFi on the phone.

Once those variables are met, sync happens automatically after a few minutes.

I wish you could manually sync over WiFi. Sometimes I'm just too impatient to wait. :P

you can, at least with my Zune mini that i have. Just go to settings-wireless-sync-sync with pc.

If they kill Zune hardware I might buy a bunch and sock them away just in case mine dies. I wish I had done this with a perfect pair of running shoes that Adidas made in 1994.

Rant about MS points please.

I really need that, like right now.

Do any of you guys have the HTC Mozart?

My upgrade is available from next month & it seems to be the best phones available to me for free(only other decent phones are the SE X10,X8 & X10mini & HTC Wildfire). I quite like the look of WP7 & I'm coming from a dumbphone so lack of apps is not really a problem, the only problem I can see is that I use a lot of Google products(Docs especially) & am worried that they may not be supported by WP7.

I have the Mozart.

Pretty good phone, I'm happy with it.
Although it doesn't compare very well against the Samsung Omnia7 in screen quality and app loading times. However, the loading times may improve in the upcoming update.

As for Google Docs.. I don't know. How compatible are they with MS office?

Yes, though that is in part due to necessity. The WP7 OS is GPU accelerated from the get-go. Android is not. Can't wait until IE9 hits the phone. The videos are nuts.

I remember on my Nexus One I could view Google Docs, but I couldn't update them, I don't know if they updated that. But if they did update the web apps, you'll be fine on WP7 once the Mango update hits and brings us HTML5 compatibility. Plus, you'll have the superior Office apps, and the Mango update will also allow for SkyDrive saves on them, making them as flexible as Google Docs, but with the added functionality of Microsoft Office. The online webapps are free. Gmail works fine on the phone and even has push, plus I also use Google Calendar and that integrates nicely. Really, Google has done a great job of making their products open, so that I haven't missed much of a beat switching from Nexus One and its heavy Google integration.

IE9 was just introduced as an upcoming feature for Windows Phone, presumably in the 'Mango' update. While some of it was discussed during Ballmer's keynote, the nitty-gritty was given to Marini, who gave an excellent talk on all things IE9 and IE9 for Windows Phone.

The question about Adobe Flash was of course asked and so far, it doesn't sound like anything is close to being released:

So the questions is, are we going to support Flash in IE9 for Windows Phone

We are working with Adobe, but it has not yet been decided the last time I checked--part of that is Adobe is doing what they have to do and we're doing what we have to do. The last I checked the team is working with them but I don't think they have any announcement whether it's going to definitely work or not.

We also asked Marini about updating IE9 independently of the OS--something that was mentioned nearly a year ago, specifically does this feature exist/will Microsoft be using it? The good news is that the feature is still there:

One of the great things of Windows Phone 7 is we now have the ability to push out updates independently of the OS. We haven't announced what that schedule is going to be, but as we get closer to the release date they'll have more to say about that, but we're paying very close attention as to the best way to do that
IE9 for Windows Phone 7: Adobe Flash, demos and development [Videos]

Totally forgot that they're able to update the browser independently, but it doesn't look like they're gonna do it for the transition from IE7 to IE9. Also "meh" at Adobe. It's almost as they're even slower than Microsoft.

I really hope IE on wp7 supports the tracking protection lists feature the desktop version does.... will give us native ad blocking assuming it works like desktop version.

Hey guys.

So I bought a WP7 (LG Optimus 7.. the only one available in my country) and I can't seem to grasp notifications.

Are they fully functional? Only in messages/phone calls? What about the facebook and twitter app?

Thanks in advance.

Do any of you guys have experience with removing a simlock?

Is it usually possible to get an unlock code from your carrier? Or do you know of any other sources for unlock codes?

I would like to unlock an LG Optimus 7 on the (German) D2 network (so that it works on e-plus).

It's possible, but I don't think the carrier will give you the unlock code. However, there are websites that will create you an unlock code after you've given them your IMEI number (which they need to create the code). You'll have to pay for that, though.

Oh, and I'm not sure if that's legal, by the way. ;-)

Where did you buy your phone? Do you have it already?

The push notification capability exists buy many apps that should be using it, aren't using it yet. Facebook and Twitter are examples of those apps (to be fair to twitter, the iOS and Android versions of their apps just got notification late last year). Twitter did announce that push is coming to the wp7 app.

There are some alternatives for twitter that do support push notification, like Beezz.

The only popout notifications are phone calls and text messages (and WiFi if you have that turned on), everything else is handled through live tiles. Emails get sound and lock screen support. The official fb and twitter apps do not support live tiles, but I know at least twitter does have third party apps with live tile support.

I think it was normal to be able to get your phone unlocked in Europe by your carrier, right? Otherwise there should be sites online to do it. Not sure of German ones.

This is something not harped on enough. Since MS came on last they started with an OS that was GPU accelerated from the get go. It's one of the main reasons the OS is so smooth, and one of the reasons the baseline OS didn't need OMG crazy specks to do it.

This isn't actually true. 3rd party applications have access to the popout notifications (called "Toast"). I can't remember which apps I've seen use them off hand, but I believe I have gotten them from weather apps for serve conditions and flory for when you receive a message and the app isn't open.

VanMardigan said:
You learn something new every day. I have never seen a third party toast, and I have quite a few apps installed.

Weatherbug does toasts when you have severe weather notice in your area.... I have gotten a few of those already with all the snow storms the past few weeks.

You can also turn them on in alphajax when its your turn.... but its not on by default.

So yeah Weather Bug stopped updating the live tile for me. Now I want to go back to the Weather Channel App, but that always crashed on me! LAME!
