Couple Kinects chilling at the front of the stage.
They had six of them yesterday on stage. No idea why.

meh starting the talk with update discussion.
Will those new apps need Mango or can they be expected sooner?
If they're using Mango features, then you have to wait for Mango.

New Mango features:

New App list:
with an alphabetical jump list and "search as you type"

Other features
Custom Ringtones

Dev features:
Sensor access for devs - raw camera access, compass and gyro
Core support - TCP/IP sockets, SQL database, more launchers and choosers (Skype announced)
Better data access to calendar and contacts

Multiple live tiles per app?!

Skype coming "in the fall" so I'm assuming it requires Mango.

Edit: LOL at the Balmer "developers" soundbite as a ringtone. Good presentation so far..

Background audio support for HTML 5 audio

Metro UI controls, live tiles, and Custom Ringtones

TCP/IP sockets, SQL database, more launchers and choosers - better data access to calendar and contacts

Sensors - raw camera access, compass and gyro

You can now pin specific features of an app - like the bar code scanning feature in the Amazon app (AKA Deep Linking)

This is why I waited for WP7 in regards about battery management.

I already have to do that in WM6, and I don't want to do it again in Android. I also don't want to switch from my current cell phone provider (Sprint) to get an iPhone.

Improvements to dev tools & emulators (for mango):

Support accelerometer in emulator, play prerecorded gestures

GPS testing supported in the emulator, can pick your location for testing purposes.

Generational GC:

The NETCF runtime JIT will utilize SIMD capabilities on the phones (certain operations on some XNA types will be accelerated ):

XNA + Silverlight integration: XNA graphics (3D model, camera controls) and Silverlight buttons

Updated dev tools coming out next month!

Having worked with WP7 for about one and a half month now, I can't tell you how happy that API picture makes me.

It's a really nice platform to work with, but man does the SDK feel a bit rough on the edges sometimes.

Edit: That irc client looks pretty awesome :)

I see GameInvite on there. I am about 30 minutes away from Live on the feed so I don't know if he talked about it. But good to see that.

EDIT: That emulator and profiler look beast.

Whaat. How can the messenger be available in the coming weeks?
Trying to watch NASL and the conference at the same time so I didn't quite hear what he said, but I imagine they could make it work through toast and push-notifications maybe?

wow I didn't know mirc is still popular.
Holy shit they showed mIRC? Woah blast to the past. I'm back in the 90s for me. Not an IRC person now though so don't know what would be the popular client now.

PS: Future looks bright, but even with the apology AT&T would still be fucking me if I didn't take matters into my own hands.

I guess all the 1500+ new APIs aren't done yet. ;)

that's a lot of stuff

I see quite a few things to help layout text which is something I found more difficult than it needed to be in the current sdk.

Is this like iOS where end users can 'somehow' install the preview firmwares on their phones?
Watson said that every registered developer with a developer unlocked phone will get early access. He didn't say how they'll distribute the update.

It all sounds really good. If Nokia can get a mango phone out this year, I'll jump on that. I do hope, against all signs to the contrary, that we will have at least some update before mango.

oooh, Ronaldo, Ramos, Albiol and Carvalho on yellow cards. Risky move from Mourinho. All of those players, except perhaps Albiol, would be a huge loss for the semi-final.
Right.

Now that I have seen the entire keynote I actually think the coolest feature is the new live tile support (where you can pin things inside the app and they get their own live tile)..... the example was the amazon barcode scanner inside the amazon shopping app. There is a ton of potential for doing that kind of think but it seems like it is going to be a very difficult task in educating people what parts can be pinned (and most devs are probably going to ignore it)

Hey giga, any insights into the announcements today? In other words, how awesome were the announcements? ;-)
I couldn't watch the keynote because I was out but I did watch the Channel 9 interview with Joe and the crazy lady. The impression that I got back at MWC hasn't changed--all very compelling additions that should solve many complaints. (how many times do people whine about IM and video/camera applications in here?)

One thing I'm still a bit confused about that they didn't show at Barcelona was Live Agents. It sounds like local notifications combined with Live Tiles but I can't get my head around it because bloggers seem to be writing different things.
