Wow, the new Bing upgrades (especially Scout) look really cool. Glad they're integrating this type of "discovery" into the OS. Bing Vision seems badass.
Navigon is only on certain carrier subsidized phones. You can't buy it anywhere.snap0212 said:I'm not sure what you mean, because I'm using the Nagivon software and it is just like on the other devices. I'm not sure where you live, but since I have the function I doubt it's just not available due to hardware/software limitations. :/
Scout will probably be another feature that works only in the US.Mr. Snrub said:Wow, the new Bing upgrades (especially Scout) look really cool. Glad they're integrating this type of "discovery" into the OS. Bing Vision seems badass.
Turn by turn navigation has full voice navigation including auto corrections when you go off route.Abooie said:The only thing holding me back from whooping uncontrollably is the lack of confirmation of turn by turn navigation with voice navigation.
Anyone heard anything?

Navigon over here is free if you use a T-Mobile sim card, but my phone is from O2. It's not like the software is only available for those who bought phones with a T-Mobile contract over here. Everyone can download the software, but I think you cannot use it if you don't use T-Mobile's sim cards.brotkasten said:Navigon is only on certain carrier subsidized phones. So if you use a T-Mobile SIM card in a Windows Phone, it will show up on the marketplace?snap0212 said:Navigon over here is free if you use a T-Mobile sim card, but my phone is from O2. I'm not 100% sure since I've used a T-Mobile card when I downloaded it. I don't anymore and it's still showing up. However, the description says it's exclusive to T-Mobile users. I'll try downloading it as soon as I can put another sim card in.brotkasten said:So if you use a T-Mobile SIM card in a Windows Phone, it will show up on the marketplace?
It's not like they're ignoring Europe on purpose. It's already a pain in the ass to map everything in a country that is as big as the US. Trying to do the same in Europe is probably a lot more difficult, due to different laws. I'm sure you remember the drama about Google StreetView in Germany. Google gave up for now, where Microsoft just started with Bing StreetSlide. Kinda funny.snap0212 said:I'm not 100% sure since I've used a T-Mobile card when I downloaded it. edit: Just watched the Demo video on YouTube. I still don't understand why Microsoft just ignores that there's a market outside of the US. I really hope that changes once they get Nokia phones because I'm not willing to be treated like a second class customer much longer. I know everything takes time, but they should at least try to improve things for customers outside of the US. No Podcasts is still a big thing for me even though I can download them now (thanks to the fix provided by brotkasten).
Time to be excited about Europe, Microsoft.
I agree, but you also have to take a look at the features that don't require an absurd amount of work to be implemented. It took Google many years to get to where they are now (Maps, etc.) and I don't expect Microsoft to work faster than Google, I really don't. I do, however, expect them to come out and tell me that they actually are working on it. What's their reason for Podcasts not being up here yet? What's their reason for YouTube not working if you don't change your phone so Youtube thinks you're in the US? We don't see any improvements anywhere and that worries me. Microsoft saying that the Podcast feature in Mango will only be available in the US shows me that they don't even think they'll have them this year. It's unsettling.brotkasten said:It's not like they're ignoring Europe on purpose. It's already a pain in the ass to map everything in a country that is as big as the US. Same goes for music. It's not easy to get deals with record labels done. Just look at YouTube and you can see how bitchy the labels can be.
Fact is, Microsoft came last, the competition has a big head start and Microsoft doesn't have unlimited resources.
Belfiore already said at mix that podcast downloads on the phone are a US feature. But there will be a workaround, I'm sure about it. I obviously can confirm it yet, but I'll try it as soon as the unlocked emulator image is available.Wilester said:I assume European users also won't be able to download podcasts from our phones considering we're not even supposed to be able to do it from Zune.
We won't even be able to bypass it this time.

Not in Canada! I had to tether for the second half of April and first month of May... very useful in emergency situations.dLMN8R said:Eh, I stopped caring about tethering when every carrier decided it would be a good idea to charge an extra monthly fee to support it.

Besides minor detail improvements such as customized ring tones and camera settings are memorized and Internet communications in the foreground.

I don't see anything obvious on that page regarding 720p though.
[EDIT]
OK ... finished watching. lol, Mango absolutely crushes every other phone OS.
Part of the reason for their Nokia deal was because Nokia has a ton of similar services outside of the US. I suspect the data is all being integrated together.Wilester said:Love to know how much of the Bing stuff is US only......![]()
