I'm just saying, why would Microsoft not favor Nokia, when the others do a pretty poor job?
That's not the same as saying that Microsoft would give them "roughly equal footing". Has Microsoft ever announced this? They are doing a better job than Nokia--they actually have WP7 phones on sale.

So what are people's thoughts about upgrading to Mango at this point in time? How safe/easy is it and is there that much to be gained?

Are you sure that Microsof's other partners are already selling phones? Because when I look at the sales, it doesn't seem like it. Maybe people don't know about it? Also, isn't it weird that I don't see people getting excited for LG's or HTC's next Windows Phone, like they do for Nokia's coming phone? I wonder why that is ... From the existing partners, only Samsung is able to create some anticipation and that's only because they have this big ass SAMOLED+ screen.

So, how exactly are they doing a better job than Nokia and why would Microsoft give them the same treatment, when they're clearly not committed to the platform? Not that I blame them.

But they are selling phones. No matter the hype about Nokia phones, no Nokia WP7 phones have ever been sold.

They are doing a better job merely by actually having phones on sale.

it should be interesting to see what the carriers do with the first gen phones once the mango phones are released. the focus and the hd7 might get a significant sales bump if they can be sold at $50 or less with the 2 yr contract. the LG and the Surround maybe given away for free. with the mango hype, casual buyers may land a wp7 for dirt cheap, same as they could do now with the low end android phones.

Are you on Rogers/Fido? I have the same problem and iirc, it's due to the Rogers sms timestamp being in a different timezone.

I dont know of a fix for WP7 though. Back when I had an Android, I had to run this timestamp fixer that essentially intercepts my sms messages and fixes the timestamp. Doubt that's even possible with WP7.

yeah, im on Rogers. I think I might have fixed it though. I just turned off the auto timezone thing, and set it correctly to mountain. I will just leave auto off, and change daylight savings stuff myself if this really did fix it.

I don't know about that, my Costco no longer have Focus and HD7 for sale and my local At&t only have LG phone and HD7S. Unless they are going to produce more.

Also recent Dell Venue Pro sales, seems like a clearance fire sale ... I was so temp at getting one but I still read all the horror story about the firmware or lack of one and how buggy it is. Pretty phone though ... got to resist for next batch of phone.

how is the music live tile works?
i synced some mp3s of mine with zune but at the homescreen the live tile never shows the album arts

Is it just me, or does it seem that Microsoft is dropping the 7 from all their branding?

Every ad seems to just say "Windows Phone" not "Windows Phone 7."

And while Mango is 7.5 (or 7.1, seems to be conflicting reports of what the version number is), the preview event was simply "Windows Phone Mango Preview."

Just a curious thing I noticed. I think it's a good idea, don't know how many times I heard someone say Windows 7 Phone.

You need to link the album information in Zune. Either do 'Find album info' or use Zune Social Tagger to link your albums.

It doesn't actually show the album art, it just shows an image of the artist

It's in the phone settings for the lockscreen.

The more they distance away from Windows Mobile 6 the better. Because some people can't disassociate them both and there's also trolls that always talk about missing features from WM6 like it matters.

No, it's not just you. They dropped the 7 when they announced mango at MIX in April, but nobody got the memo (not that there was a memo).

It's "Windows Phone" as the new branding and "Windows Phone OS 7.x" when you refer to the OS version.

It's funny, because Windows will resemble Windows Phone, when 8 comes out.

Heh, had the same thought when I first saw that preview video of Windows 8. Given the lack of mainstream appeal of the Zune, crazy to think the UI seed that started with Zune HD would totally transform the aesthetics of everything the whole company would do.

I can't get podcasts to download properly anymore on mango. It gets stuck in the 'pending' stage for hours. Is this happening to anyone else?

I think the UI seed went further back than that. I believe it all started with Media Centre. (Could be further than that).

I know if the podcast is over a certain size you need to be on wi-fi to download it. Other than that, it's probably just another mango bug. The podcast support is really buggy in mango. There is no communication between the zune software podcast subscriptions and your phone subscriptions. Also, I often got old podcasts when I subscribed on the phone rather than the latest versions. Finally, there is a bug that just deletes all of your downloaded podcasts, I think that one happens when you are doing wireless sync sometimes. Basically, I manage my podcasts the same way I did on NoDo, through the Zune software. I'm not messing with the mango podcast stuff until they iron all that stuff out, since podcasts are way too important for me.

How long until I can get a new mango phone on verizon?

Probably 2-3 months. The Trophy will also get updated to mango, see if you can find one cheap on Ebay or something. I've seen Windows Phone sell for cheap online.

Rumors are that Mango is going to launch in September, or even earlier, with Fujitsu selling their Mango phone in August in Japan. Other than that it's "this fall".

I couldn't even get $185.

yeah started with Media Center way back on XP.

Question, I am wanting to get a Trophy off eBay for use on Verizon. Is there anything I need to know or avoid in order for me to be able to use it. Such as staying away from unbranded devices or making sure it is not the european version?

Well I thought I had fixed the problem, but I did not.

So does anyone know how to fix incorrect incoming text message timestamps ?

I have:

- Imported Euro HTC 7 Pro
- OS 7.0.7392.0
- Im on Rogers in Canada

Edit: The 'fix' I tried was to turn off auto date and time, and it didnt seem to work.

Hey guys ive run into an issue with the live tiles and the push motifications with my phone.

Now ive always had issues with push notifications/live tile. They would work for a while when you install the app, but then they would just stop. Send to WP7 for example no longer gives me toast notifications, but if i open the application my links are there. Flixster is still stuck on the Hangover 2.

Reinstalling the application, resets the issue, but then after 2 or 3 notifications the same thing happens. Ive left it for a while now hoping mango will fix it (or a new mango phone).

However, recently i have installed Weather Live and the tile works beautifully....for a while. i have updated the application and now it has stopped updating and when i open the application it tells me that i have reached the 15 application limit. Ive counted the number of applications and i havn't reached 10.

Has anyone else experienced this?

For incoming text messages, the phone will display the timestamp on the message it receives, not the time the phone thinks it is. I keep my phone 3 minutes ahead on purpose, so when i get instant replies from my friends they are always before the one i have just sent. So im afraid that you cannot change that, unless you have access to your carriers systems.

I did in NoDo. I had to limit my use of Live Tiles to 2-3 apps.

However, Mango fixed my issues. Tiles and toasts are very reliable. Update or wait for your woes to be fixed.

I'm planning on starting development on some Windows Phone apps, but not entirely sure what people want. I just want to go ahead and develop some free simple apps, so if there's anything that people want, make some requests and hopefully I'll be able to pump it out in a couple of days.

Hey! I knew thatt holding down the back button in Mango opened the multitasking interface, but apparently holding down the Start button lets you do voice commands to call, search and launch apps.

Cool!

Edit: Apparently this was in Windows Phone since launch. I only used my phone for one day before updating to Mango, so I had no idea.

You could always do that since launch though. :P

Yeah, just realized that. I only had my phone for a day before putting Mango on it.

Still, I didn't know about it! This is totally cool beans!

So anyone here have a multiple wp7 household? My wife wants to dump Android for Windows Phone, but my concern is that the one app she wants the most, Zune, may not work how we need it to. She LOVES Zune and Zune Pass. Can we both have ZunePass working on our phones with my existing account, or would she need a separate Zune Pass subscription (which would bring our bill to an unconsionable $30/month)? Also, would we be able to share purchased apps like we can on iOS?

If the answer to the above questions is no, it really won't make sense for her to switch.

You can also have mango dictate your text messages aloud to you and you can give it a voice command like "Reply" or "ignore" or "call" after it reads the message.. so you can literally be in the middle of something else and still respond to text messages without having to touch your phone.

edit -

Are you both using the same live ID?

If so, then all of your purchases and zunepass should be tied together via that live ID..

The question would be if you can use the same live Id on multiple phones simultaneously.

Wow just tried this. Fucking amazing.

mobiletechworld saying true turn by turn will probably make it to mango final. so glad for this. i recently had to ask my GF to turn on her turn by turn navigation on her crappy LG feature phone that i always rag on. so embarrassing.

I think your Zune pass is tied to your Windows Live ID, just like Skydrive and Xbox Live.

Also, your Apps are tied to your Windows Live ID.

So, if the only thing you use your WLID for is Zune and want to share apps, then it should work.

You can have seperate Facebook and gmail accounts on the phone, so those can be different.

Also, Zune Pass lets you use three devices.

Zune.net said:
One of the many advantages of having a Zune Pass is the flexibility to access your music where you want it. With a Zune Pass subscription, you can download, stream, and listen to as many songs from Zune Marketplace as you want, as often as you want.

You can download and sync music from Zune Pass to three computers and three devices (Zune players and/or Zune-enabled phones). Once you've put music you've downloaded with your Zune Pass on a computer or device, it is associated with your Zune Pass. If you want to change the computers or devices that are associated with your Zune Pass, you can swap out one computer and one device every 30 days.

The tag recognition in bing vision is fucking amazing.

I'm sitting here, reading my google reader feed on my iPad and saw that Posche is now tagging their cars with Microsoft tags.
Porsche has begun adding the Tags on cars at dealerships in five States to test the waters. Porsche's hopes is to make their products and dealerships more accessible. When scanned (with your Windows Phone or other Microsoft Tag capable smartphone) the Tag will send you to mobile sites with more information about the particular model along with videos, photos and sales contact info.
http://www.wpcentral.com/microsoft-tags-porsche

WPCentral have a small picture of someone reading a monochrome Microsoft tag with an iPhone and I thought I should give it a try with my Optimus 7, powered by mango. In few seconds it was able to read the tag and give me a direct link to this crappy 2011 Carrera S, that is sold by this Porsche dealer. That was truly a wow moment for me, because I've dealt with MS Tags before and I know that it shouldn't work with such a small and low quality picture, especially not in monochrome.

I should mention that the picture displayed in Reeder is even a bit smaller than the thumbnail on WPCentral.
