Based on my previous experiences that is the one limitation of a zunepass... only one streaming device at a time.... I have tried streaming on the website and it will not let me stream on my phone or xbox (or any other combination). I have not found a way to stream in 2 places at the same time.

But the songs you download do work (those only need to be updated every 30 days to get the new license)..... and obviously the ones you convert to mp3 work everywhere.

This is great news because the Microsoft Tag app is frickin terrible. I have to take a TON of pics just to get one it can read, and sometimes it just doesn't pick up the tag no matter how many pictures or angles I try. I just gave up on tags altogether.

Weird. Have you tried the tags I made for the apps and games recommendation threads? I never had a problem with them. The tag reader app took a bit longer, but always recognized it.
 
Does anyone have advice for what to do in the case of someone coming strictly locked into a Blackberry + Outlook?

My Dad has been a Blackberry user for years, but his desire to get a new phone combined with distrust/worry about RIM in the next few years is having him seriously consider getting a Windows Phone. Especially since I have one and could help him out with it, it's even more appealing.


The problem is that he uses a local Outlook PST for everything - extensive Calendar entries, hundreds of local contacts with tons of notes, and more.

Some questions:

1) Is there an easy way to get all that stuff to the cloud for WP7 to read, and so that all the contact fields would match up without him losing anything?

2) He likes having all his calendar stuff with him on his phone so he can quickly and easily look up something, even if it happened more than a year ago. Is there a way to keep all calendar entries on the phone like that instead of having it auto-delete stuff more than 2 weeks old or so?

3) How is contact search? Will it search all fields for all contacts? Or just a limited set of fields?

4) I'm looking at my phone and don't see any way to search the calendar - is there some hidden way to do that?

1) I would be led to beleive that the hotmail outlook connector should handle migration of email, contacts and calendars to a live account. I've not tried this, but would be surprised if it does not have it.

If you want to use Gmail:

Email
1 - Set one up and connect to outlook using imap settings
2 - drag and drop over the email and wait
3 - Set up your email accounts in gmail​

Calendar and Contacts
1 - Export outlook calendar into a file readable by gmail
2 - Upload said file​

I had to move my stuff from exchange to Gmail when i left university, but admitadly i did not move over the calendar stuff.

2) Don't think thats a setting you can change...maybe in Mango?

3) I believe it will just search the Name fields initially, but an option to search the Gmail directory will search all fields.

4) Can't find one.

It was already known that the Windows Phone for this year will be an N9 with Mango specs and OS.

Agreement in February, product in July? Yea, it takes longer than that to make anything.

Either way, the N9 is pretty hot and supposedly the N9 and Searay won't exist in the same markets. Some of the rumors have even said its not coming to the US. This is also just one of the ~12 nokias we'll be seeing in the next year though
 
Japan really lives in the future. One of their carriers, KDDI, will announce the Fujitsu mango phone next Wednesday.

The patents in question seem specifically tied to the Android OS and other firms seem to be taking notice. According to 21st Century Business Herald, based in China:

"Some of these vendors worry about the risk of becoming embroiled in patent infringement due to adoption of Android, and have drawn up three strategies to cope with potential impact. The three strategies are enhancement of support to Microsoft Mango operating system, promotion of smartphone customization by mobile telecom carriers for protection through binding common interest (especially carriers partnering with Apple and Microsoft), self-development of own operating systems, the source pointed out. China-based smartphone vendors Huawei Device and ZTE have planned to adopt Mango, the source indicated."

Yes, it takes that long. It's a bit more complicated than just building the hardware and slapping the OS on it. The hardware needs to be certified by Microsoft, then Nokia has to cook their own ROM that includes their services. They also have to pitch it to the various carriers and if they order it, the carriers have to test it again on their network (I've heard Verizon is really slow when it comes to testing). Also, anything that has something to do with frequencies is serious business.

Nokia will not release the N9 in the US, UK, Germany and France, I think.

I don't know. When the software is already done for you and the hardware you need to use has been picked for you, the work left is fit and finish stuff like the chassis. And they already have a chassis, they just had to make adjustments (like adding the required WP7 buttons. If they don't release Sea Ray this year in the US, I'll be really disappointed in them.

I want to have that hard choice between incredible screen (the Samsung) and incredible camera (Sea Ray).
 
you can see the buttons while the device is off, i guess they are capacitive buttons after all.

The N9 and Sea Ray are not identical (different SoCs) and like I said, the software is not "done for you". You have to make adjustments to make it run on your hardware (different display drivers, for example), then send everything back to MS, get it tested, certified and then you're good to go. If a carrier wants your phone, the OS has to be modified and certified again. There isn't one ROM that runs on all phones.

Hardware buttons were always a requirement. People should start to ignore Murtazin, at least when it comes to Windows Phones.
 
looks like the front camera has been removed from sea ray.

i honestly think nokia isn't going to release the sea ray in the US, but to those 12 or so european countries first. for the US, nokia has to come out with a platform flagship. i'm thinking a 4-4.3" with front facing camera, something to introduce skype to the platform.

When I saw your post I wanted to say that it's hard to tell if the camera is still there, because you can't see the proximity sensor either, but then I saw the video again and when he started the camera app, you can see that the icon for switching the cameras is missing. I doubt that it's an old build, because it already has the new logo as the boot screen (unlike the mango beta 2).

But then again, the plastic shell has a cut out at the front. Could be for the proximity sensor, could be for the camera, could be for both.

meh, this isn't a small or new phone company. They do that shit all the time. The software is done. The stuff you're talking about is minor compared to what it would take to, for example, build a meego phone. Phone companies do this all the time. This is what they do, the testing, cooking up ROM's, drivers etc. But I don't know why we're even having this discussion. They're getting a phone out this fall with all the other mango releases, and I think that's an adequate amount of time.

And with it goes any interest I may have had in this phone. This is my two year upgrade phone, I'm not skimping on features, especially when its a good bet that Skype integration will play a big role in the future of Windows Phone.

I'm looking at the video and I can't see a camera up there at all.

edit: also, has anyone had an issue where FB refuses to update for ONE of your contacts? I'm getting my updates for everyone else as far as I can tell, but there is one contact that has been stuck with the same items for the past week. I probably wouldn't have noticed except it's for the one FB person whose feed I check on the most.....my wife. :(

tried reading through the previous pages but couldnt find anything. what method did you use to get mango on your phone? i see an option over on xda that sounds simple but doesn't really explain how to revert back to nodo.

Yeah, privacy settings will prevent certain aspects of the person's facebook information from appearing.

Windows phone is a platform app for facebook (an app that uses Facebook's API).. so if they have tighter than normal security for apps, it could prevent updates from showing.

I tried Rowi, and I like the colour scheme, but it didnt have a landscape mode, so I tried the official Twitter app, and it had one, but it also just seems to be better.


What am I missing that Rowi has that the official app doesnt do? Im pretty new to using twitter, so I probably couldnt notice any of the differences.

Probably the ability to save your last read state.
 
Just updated to the Mango beta and it's great so far.

Is there any way to change the IE search engine to google instead of Bing? I can't seem to find this option anywhere.
 
I'm in Australia and I'm looking to get a WP7 soon but the only ones available seem to be fairly limited but at the moment I'm look at the Samsung Omnia 7 with Optus. I'm unsure how long it'll take for the 2nd gen phones to hit Australia, if at all.

I'm pretty sure it uses the system wide Bing search in IE, so the answer would be no.

Like save what the last tweets you looked at were so you can find where to pick up from when you load it next? If thats what that means, then the official one has a 'load break' or something, that divides what youve seen already, and the new stuff.

I checked her settings and found the culprit. I can't even tell you where or what exactly it was called since my eyes were glazed over from navigating the facebook privacy settings, but it said something about third party apps.

Yep, exactly. To my understanding, load break is used when the list of new tweets is very long between the cached ones, I guess to prevent crashing/memory issues/performance issues. Rowi does this as well.

I forgot to mention rowi has live tiles/toast notifications for mentions and messages. EDIT: Only in paid version, I think.

All said, twitter is an excellent app. It works smooth as butter in mango, and I'd like for it to be my primary, but lack of certain functions really hinder my experience.

I figured that would be it..

I wish MS could work with facebook to get some kind of exception because it limits the usefulness of the facebook integration if I can't see updates for all of my friends. I can certainly understand why having controls on what information apps can access is important, though.. as it could definitely be used for data mining otherwise without a person's knowledge.

Live tile function would be nice, though not much use for me with my 3 followers, haha.




So I'm pretty tempted to test out mango, is there a good way to go about doing so? Any helpful links?
 
This may be blasphemy but now with my ipod touch I am "playing" around less and less with my phone. But saying that having this has solidified that I will be sticking with windows phones, the UI of wp7 is just too smooth of an experience for me and will be hard to use anything else. I have the games of iOS so don't need the iPhone...
 
So i've been thinking about selling my current Android phone (ZTE Blade) and getting an LG Optimus 7 either soon or when mango hits.

Have a couple of questions though:
1) How is integration with google calendar and mail? (I'd like to enter todo's and dates on my pc and have them show up on my phone with no hassle)
2) Are there options to prevent the phone from syncing everything all the time? (My current data limit is 200 megabytes, which i never even fully use, but if the phone is syncing everything it would not be enough)
3) Is there an irc client for WP7 already? (Or will i have to wait till mango)
4) Anyone here have the Optimus 7 and can comment if it has any problems? (I'd also be interested if the quality of the headphone out is good and if it's loud enough to drive bigger headphones, like sennheiser HD 25)

Google calendar synchs automatically for me. So do mails.

You can chose which content you'd like to synchronise (Email, Contacts, Calendar) and if these things should be updated "as item arrives", "every 15 minutes", "every 30 minutes", "hourly" or "manually".

So if you have four email accounts you can tell the phone to update one constantly but the others only if you click update.

I don't have the Optimus 7 but my I use my Sennheiser HD595 with my HD7 all the time. :)

The App Store has far more games than the Zune Store, so that's pretty understandable. The price helps too - I'm honestly all for $3 as the minimum price for mobile games (to support developers; the profit margins on the iPhone are horrific), but each to their own.
