I don't think that's an option really. For one I really need a smart phone as I still rocking an ancient Nokia phone. And the fact that I live in the Netherlands. WP7 came about 1-1.5 years after it was released in the US and we've only still got 3 phones available. So I doubt the new hardware will be released here anytime soon.
WP7 isn't even a year old. :lol

Samsung is going to release a Galaxy SII-esque phone with Windows Phone 7 this fall. I'd wait.

If you really can not wait, go into a carrier store, play with the Omnia 7. It's awesome.

Alright you guys, I'm really torn between getting the Samsung Omnia 7 or the Galaxy S2.
I don't really like Android but love the look of WP7 but the Galaxy seems to be the much better phone. Is it worth turning down a 8 MP camera and larger and better screen for a 5 MP camera and worse screen for a better looking UI?

there is a rumored wp7 phone with galaxy s2 specs. you could just wait for that. but the omnia 7 is really awesome, i can fully recommend it.

I live in the Netherlands too, so let me take away some of your doubts: the current phones work fine, but you lack a marketplace and Dutch language option. If you install mango (free if you are a student with CJP card) you can get the dutch dictionary.

Once Mango is officially launched, more phones will also be released here. The marketplace will launch and you can get a dutch dictionary (albeit not a full Dutch system language if you buy an older model)

For now, Id advice to make a Live-ID with the location set to the UK until the marketplace gets released. Probably wont take much longer than 2 months.

While the Tellme team focuses on enabling these longer-term scenarios, it will continue work it is doing on nearer-term projects, such as providing interactive voice response (IVR) to customers and partners. (Quite a few automated voice call-handling systems are powered by Tellme today.) And the team is working on adding a speech programming interface to Windows Phone so that developers can write apps that take advantage of the speech technology built into the phone platform. Bukshteyn didn’t have a timeframe to share as to when Windows Phone developers might get this API support.

This will be nice.

Does Mango allow the user to access the navigation bar and open windows in the browser in landscape mode ? This is so annoying.

It's only 8am where I am, and I've already cleared a minefield and solved a Sudoku puzzle. I'm racking up the achievements!

Is it me or is Minesweeper on both intermediate and hard ridiculously difficult? I had to grind my level up high enough to get the EMP power up to even have a chance.

Quick question: I'm about to format my hard drive; do I have to do something to my Zune software prior to formatting the drive or can I just re-install the software afterwards? I remember having to disable my iTunes account when uninstalling the software...

The back and sides look a lot like the Focus. Aside from the much-needed colors, of course.

You can go into account and disable that computer from ZunePass etc. Then you can add it back after you re-format. There is a 3 computer limit on how many can download ZunePass songs, and you can manage the devices from any of the three computers. So, even if you forgot to remove that PC from ZunePass, you can remove it from your laptop or other device that you've tied to the account.

In a wide-ranging interview, Chris Weber, President of Nokia, head of North America, downplayed expectations that we’ll see a U.S. superphone release by Nokia this year.

Until now, many people had hoped to see Nokia’s first U.S. smartphones based on Windows Phone 7 as early as this year. But under questioning, Weber would confirm only that the phones would first hit the U.S. “in volume” in 2012. He said Nokia CEO Stephen Elop had committed only to releasing a Nokia Windows Phone device ”somewhere” this year, but would not say whether this would be in more than one market or whether or not the U.S. would be included.

Weber cited state-of-the-art imaging technology and battery performance as areas Nokia phones would excel in. Weber also said Nokia may beat competitors on pricing, thanks to the company’s significant global reach, which gives it economies of scale.

This Nokia/MS joint venture is a great spectacle to watch.

Hopefully it just means they know they have to come guns blazing in the US with a real superphone and not some year old crap :P

I don't expect the Sea Ray to be released in the US. All we know is that it's coming in 6 European countries is year, but the us was never mentioned.

I think it's more interesting that Motorola are reconsidering their Android-only strategy and want the same deal as Nokia.

I'm not entirely sure if you have to do this and I'm not on my pc right now, but i think it goes something like this:

Connect your phone with your PC, start Zune, go to settings, sync options and then click on "forget this device". If your on mango, roll back to NoDo before you do this.

If you're not on mango, why the hell are you still running NoDo?

This has to be fake because it's taken from a video made of old clips and it ends showing some weird fake OS on some wet dream backwards flip touch device...right?

Either way I prefer the first devices Nokia showed off for WP7, that bottom bezel chunk makes it look dated and not as stylish. Reminds me a lot of Sprint's HTC Hero from something like 2 years ago.

i am about 90% sure its fake. i hope 100% that i am wrong.

So far it seems like Molly's primary complaint is lack of apps like Words with friends and she thought that the built-in twitter integration, etc. didn't update fast enough.

Will be interesting to see what her final opinion is.. so far it looks like Brandon Watson's enthusiasm might backfire in this case.

Got to hand it to him, though.. the man has confidence in the product and the balls to back it up.

I don't think it can backfire, really. No one with a soul can credibly write that they hate the OS, so getting it out there as a real alternative is still worthwhile. I don't think the folks all have to switch platform for the challenges to be a good idea.

I wish Molly would give the OS more of a chance rather than quickly zero in on the negatives, but at least she's being honest.

That is a fair point.

If you've watched Molly's videos before, it seems to be kind of her schtick to be sarcastic and make fun of things... so focusing on the negative isn't that unexpected.

if you have location services on does that mean that the gps is always on or it gets used when an app requests it?
trying to squeeze everything i can from my trophy's battery

Brandon Watson is teasing a new Windows Phone for the past 30 mins...

https://twitter.com/#!/BrandonWatson

With the likely fake engadget leaks, still my want meter for a really cool Nokia phone is getting in the red zone. Wonder is he's holding it right now. Another possiblity he's got a rumored Samsung with a Super AMOLED screen...

Rumored?

e: Is it me or does the Samsung in the picture look like it has physical buttons?

The N79 was my favorite phone ever because it included three different covers with each their own color (it also had this metal thing inside that when recognized it automatically switched the software theme, although that worked like shit at some point)

Can't wait for their WP7 phones, better be of some good quality!

You are running the Mango Beta aren't you? I can't find either game in the Marketplace and when I follow the link to them, they show up but say it isn't available due to incompatible phone software or region. Are they only available in the US? (I'm in Canada btw... the country MS barely acknowledges exists)

EDIT: Nevermind... just noticed in the gaming thread that they are US only. Why? The other free game (Flowerz) came out for us.... boo MS.

HTC to do a teleconference tomorrow morning. will they show anything new? typical Android phones n tablets? with wp7 phones mixed in? or will HTC shock the world and announce wp7 exclusivity? Apple lawsuits and licensing fees pushed them in the arms of Microsoft?

Anyone here have a LG Quantum 7? I'm about to buy one as a backup off of some dude on craigslist. I'm worried about the specs on it as far as RAM goes, apparently it only has 256mb.

It has 512mb.

One of the few first gen phones with more than 8gb storage which is also nice.

Whew, thanks for clearing that up, every website I went to say 256mb. I'm getting it for $150.00 which is a steal considering the condition it is in. You can never have enough Windows Phones.

I hope there's a Mango phone tossed in there for Sprint.

I'd be really surprised if this has anything to do with Windows Phone.
