Update: It has been confirmed to Neowin that Microsoft has announced internally that developers will not have to roll back. That's good news for everyone!
Meet the Samsung Omnia W. The latest handset from the Korean electronics giant comes running Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) and features a smaller 3.7-inch Super AMOLED display compared with its predecessor, the Omnia 7. The handset does, however, pack a much faster single-core 1.4GHz processor and has 512MB of RAM.
Design-wise, the Omnia W looks slightly different with its rounded edges compared with the rectangular shape of the Omnia 7. It's also slightly thinner at 10.9mm and weighs in at just 115.3g compared with the 11mm and 138g of the latter. The weight difference is owed to the smaller 3.7-inch display--the Omnia 7 sports a 4-inch screen.
What's wrong with Super AMOLED?brotkasten said:I like the size of the screen, but SAMOLED is meh.
the pentile pixel matrix is very noticeable, giving the display a grainy, pixelated look.Korey said:Hmmm...I like the look of that a lot. I don't like the weird home button though :\

Omnia 7 is 4".Totakeke said:I don't know why they said smaller screen considering it's still 3.7" compared to Omnia 7. It's also the same screen type as Omnia 7. Having cheaper phones run Windows Phone is a no brainer though, no other platform can compete with it in terms of performance at that space.

It's meant to be a mid-range phone for 300/$400 off-contract and it doesn't have more RAM.derFeef said:One has to understand Samsungs logic. Faster, more ram, but smaller screen without samoled plus...

Samsung Focus S fits the bill although I think most people posting at this time are probably in Europe.NotTarts said:Argh, we really need an IPS, S-LCD, or SAMOLED+ Windows Phone with a 1.4Ghz processor. I'm never going to upgrade until there's one available.

Wait so there's a flaw with this screen tech? Why don't they fix it?xbulletholes said:the pentile pixel matrix is very noticeable, giving the display a grainy, pixelated look.
I wish Microsoft announced this earlier :/Sleeplessnights said:Anyone got that notification? I rolled back to NoDo anyway.

Not bad I must say if it's priced cheap (no Super AMOLED Plus). Meh to capacitive buttons though.
Yes, I think it's flawed. OLED looks great, but the pentile matrix is pretty distracting when you read text and that's what I do 90% of the time on my phone. They fixed it with SAMOLED Plus.Korey said:Wait so there's a flaw with this screen tech? Why don't they fix it?
k...not getting that phone then. thanks for the quick answers and examplesbrotkasten said:Yes, I think it's flawed. OLED looks great, but the pentile matrix is pretty distracting when you read text and that's what I do 90% of the time on my phone. They fixed it with SAMOLED Plus.

kharma45 said:Well that's very disappointing, and seeing as we probably won't see a variant of that Focus S over here seems a new Samsung WP is off the cards, the Titan and whatever Nokia bring seem to be the only potential good ones.
Meh, the pen tile stuff bothers some more than others. I have no problems with it and I've been using my Focus for almost a year now. I'd say check it out in a store when it launches to see if it bothers you. Those blown up shots are not representative of what you actually experience as a user.Korey said:k...not getting that phone then. thanks for the quick answers and examples
i agree, hurts some more than others. i'm 'used to it' or not bothered by it at all.VanMardigan said:Meh, the pen tile stuff bothers some more than others. Technically it was AT&T who announced the phones, not Samsung.MCD said:Samsung announced two phones for the US.
I don't see why they won't do the same in Europe.
CoilShot said:Do we know what carriers in the US are going to have HTC Titan? Also when the release date is for the US?

Microsoft and Samsung wouldn't do the same mistake twice, right?antiquegamer said:I see it but it doesn't bother me. I am more worry with Samsung always mess around with parts and spec and cause the phone to not be able to update.
