The carrier you're using doesn't matter, the branding does. If DT didn't greenlight the update, you won't get it.Hammer24 said:

so of course i get the notification but cannot find my phone's usb cable. bah!
custom ringtone mp3s but you have to edit them to 40 seconds or less? absolutely worthless when every modern smartphone OS will let u choose any song and it will just cut the song automatically for you. do you think retail reps will give WP a break with this? hell no, the new feature is nonexistent if you ask me.

I'm not sure how this is handled on iOS nowadays, but when I had it I had to use standalone tools on my desktop to create the ringtones and add them to iTunes, just like we have to do on wp7.

I disagree, actually. It's very counterproductive to do so due to the UI design of Windows Phone. Unlike the iPhone, where sections are usually confined to separate windows that can be switched between at any point, it's possible to get deep into an application, so far that getting back to the start using the back button might require 10 or 20 clicks.giga said:

I forced update to Mango, but I am not I still did not receive any marketplace notifications, and I am sure to have around 10 Mango ready applications installed.

The only thing we know is that there are two Tango updates, Tango 1 and Tango 2 (job posting) and that it will probably include universal search (leaked by some Slovakian guy, fake alert).Brettison said:

That's what the multitasking menu should be for. Even if you could access the previous state directly using the icon, the saved state would be tombstoned after a certain amount of apps have opened. Countless times someone has tried to show me something on their iPhone, only to have been launched somewhere into the depths of the app when they click the icon with no idea how to get back to the start.giga said:

I've got a few impressions written up but they're not ready to post. The sneak peak is that this update fixes a lot of the problems I had and introduces a lot of good stuff, there are only a few changes I don't like, but I think there's still pretty significant room for improvement going forward.
Before I finish my impressions, can someone confirm that this is a correct description of a behaviour under NoDo and Mango:
In NoDo, the behaviour that occurred when you pressed the "search" button was contextual. If you were on a screen or in an app or in a hub where it would make sense to have a local search option, pressing the search button would bring up that local search option. If not, you'd get Bing.
In Mango, pressing the search button always gives you Bing. If there's a contextual search option, it'll be in the bottom icon options row. Click there for the contextual search, use the search button for Bing.
As an example, I'm thinking of searching the marketplace as in Games hub -> Get More Games -> More -> Press search here.

You only lose the state of an application if you relaunch the app from the home/app screens (assuming the app has been re-compiled for Mango). Simply hold the back button (or just tap it if it was the last app) and go back to where you were. Given the way that Windows Phones were designed (both software and hardware), this seems like the best way to do it considering that the back button is always available regardless of where you are.giga said:

One of the major changes in Windows 7's taskbar was the merging of app shortcuts (for launching) and selecting currently running apps. I do hope they try and figure this out.

Still, I've argued in this thread that it SHOULD save state rather than having to use the fast app switching (which I don't see mainstream users getting used to). I know what MS is doing, you get predictable behavior every time you hit the app button, but I don't like it.
