Color is practically the only thing we can customize and yet they only give us 10 freakin color options. This should be the easiest thing for them to fix. I just don't get it.
What makes it worse is that it apparently was there.

If the expectation didn't exist, while disappointed, it wouldn't bother me as much.

Similar to their ringtones, they tested everything out and decided on a limited palette that they thought would work across various devices.

You can say that it's bullshit, but they did spend time deciding not to have more colors available. Like you said, it's too easy of a decision to just allow a color picker.

Yeah, more colors would be great.

Disappointed in the turn by turn directions setup in Mango. Why should I have to press the screen every time I go "off-track"? Ridiculous. The implementation was better in WM 6.0. Also, you don't need huge arrows taking up half the screen space. Map overlays work fine in other GPS solutions.

I can kind of get why they don't want a color picker (I'd be for it, but there is an argument for simplicity) ... but their entire line of reasoning is ridiculous.

The entire point is their limited palette does not work across the various devices. Each screen (particularly screen tech) renders them differently. So what you end up with is only a few that look particularly good on a given screen. For example, most of the colors either look too pastel or too garish on SAMOLED.

Is it too much to ask for more than one shade of each color?

Hell, some of the colors don't even offer a light and dark variant (blue in particular) ... and some tertiary colors aren't even available - gold, etc. Even lamer is that black, white, and gray (of any shade) are entirely absent.

Then there's the backgrounds. I get why they might not want to go with colors (oh no ... someone might choose something that clashes - world ends) ... but hell, even gray would be good.

Not really because there must be a bar that must be met and they decided somehow that bar would include the current colors that are available. You can't make all of them look nice on every phone but you can make sure at least they don't look horrible on any phone. But it's a subjective matter. Would more choices be cool? Yeah of course, but the OS was always designed with consistency in mind and you can definitely state that the theme colors is where they went wrong.

So can I really not set a custom ringtone for getting a text? That kinda sucks... unless it's possible somehow and I'm missing something super obvious.

But I think many do.

Adding some more would not hurt them in any way. It's ridiculous.

where do I change the ringtone to use my mp3
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/howto/wp7/start/create-ringtones.aspx

Create your ringtone to the following specs:

• In MP3 or WMA format
• Less than 40 seconds
• Less than 1 MB
• Not protected with digital rights management (DRM)

(Audacity is useful or go to this site)

One you've added the song to Zune, right-click and select Edit. Change the genre to ringtone (manually type it in if it's not in the drop-down).

Go to Settings -> ringtones+sounds -> Ringtone on your phone. Any ringtones added in this fashion will be listed at the top under Custom.

Note: changing the ringer under settings is to change the default ringtone. If you want to assign ones to specific people, select their contact and click edit (pencil icon). There will be a + ringtone option at the top to assign a per-person ringer (then go under Custom like above)

Have you tried to force the update? Click on update and count how many seconds it takes until it tells you your phone is up to date. Say it takes 11 seconds then you'll want to pull the plug (disable WiFi, pull network cable) after eight or nine seconds. Took me a few tries but worked just fine. :)

Well humm I tried it. It found an update after I forced it. Was 75% though backing it up and it said it lost connection to my phone so far. After restarts on both laptop and phone it wont find the update for me to try again.

Any suggestions?

Also tried to force it on my mac and its a no go for me.

This site also worked great for me to make my ringtone.

Can someone make an app that would allow you to this on the phone? Or dev are not allow to make app that save accessible file to the phone.

As for color, I agree there should be more colors choice. What really sad is they should have include the real Mango color (the red-orange color) instead of hi-jack orange and call it yellow. I do understand where they are coming from as far as limited the color choice. I had that Accent Changer app when my phone was unlock and it was nice to pick color that really suit my taste and eyes.

Mango is such an awesome update but the lack of color choices for themes is one of my biggest gripes. It is such a limited selection - it reminds me of the colors available in CGA video on early PC's.

Not only do I want more flexibility in theme color, I wish I could change the color of individual tiles. Why does Email have to match Messages and Maps?

For example, compare the screenshots of WP7 with that of Windows 8. Windows 8 tiles look richer and more interesting b/c they use gradients and a variety of colors.

I love the variety that 3rd party apps offer when pinned to the home screen, but I prefer the built-in apps as my primary "up top" apps - making my initial entry into the phone just a monotonous blue with some black borders.

I also think this is one reason why WP7 phone sales suffer - home screens look "boring" in ads compared to iOS and Android.

... really? Confusing at a glance maybe, but how do iPhone and Android home screens look interesting?

the ios homescreen is just a grid of icons, i don't think you could get any more boring. At least Andriod has widgets and stuff.

how do you get the letter tiles in the application list? I had it before I had to reset my phone. Running Focus with 7.10.7720.68

One thing I am still baffle that they have not put in is ability to do screen capture. I mean I really don't understand why this is not implement. It's like free advertisement. Then again this is Microsoft we are talking about, they just fail at promoting. They try to sell everything like it's Office and Windows ... ie boring.

Speaking of that by next week all the media is going to go ga-ga over the next iPhones and Mango will be all but forgotten. Lack of new phone launch and big media push is baffling. I mean this is the actual Windows Phone launch. Unless of course they are treating 7 as interim stop-gap and Windows Phone 8 is the one they are really waiting for.

Dear NeoGaf,

I am the dumbest mutherfucker on this planet. Firstly, let me apologize to Samsung and Microsoft, though their response service is shitty, their phone isn't. Apparently I've been using the wrong cord. When the phone was sold to me I rec'd two cords. The ORIGINAL USB cord that came with the box ( which I totally forgot about ) and the store ( where I originally bought the phone) cord, which I got free. Found the cord that came with the box a few minutes ago, connected it to the phone and the comp.

Guess what, it works. Lesson learned. USE THE ORIGINAL CORD!!!

In Summary, I am dumb etc etc and yah sorry Microsoft but your customer service is still shitty.

I still think Feed Reader 2.0 is far superior to Wonder Reader, gReadie, or any others. It's been updated for Mango Live Tile, backgrounding, and fast app switching too.

O_O

How did you get the Wifi settings tab on the main screen?

There's more than one app (for Mango) that can do that, Network Dashboard is one.

Which one is best for browsing through articles? I hate having to click the small button on the appbar for Wonder Reader to change to the next article.

Is that a seperate "Feed Reader 2.0" app? I only find "Feed Reader"

It's just Feed Reader. 2.0 shows up in the title screen when you launch the app.

Yes, I think it's better for reading articles. You have two options too - a full HTML view with clickable links, or a quick view that simplifies the whole article and also allows you to swipe left/right to go to the prev/next item.

There are a ton of options overall to configure practically everything about the app too. It even has a nice Twitter client built right into it.

Yes, some of the USB cord are for POWER only and do not transmit data. If you pick up extra USB cord, you need to make sure that it also do sync.

I found that out myself this summer. USB cords that don't transfer data? I couldn't believe it.

Then I don't have that in my marketpalce or something, I just get Feed Reader in the title screen with the big rss logo.
