do applications sell on wp?
so far, developers have been very positive about how their apps sell as xbox live titles. i think other developers of non xbox live titles have bitched.

I looooooove the interface so far, what am I missing?
there's a free 14 trail for zune pass. i trailed it and i'm sold. download any damn song, not stream but download. of course when u cancel your pass then the songs you download are deleted.

That might be true, but they're already doing that. Music and TV services in Windows will be accessed from the Xbox Live menu.

That's Xbox Live in Windows 8.

The Zune brand is beyond repair and no marketing push will help to change the media's mind.

It does still seem a bit odd to tie the media stuff to an app.... really kinda thought they would have integrated it into w8. Still I am not opposed to branding everything media under xbox and its better than what we have currently.... just wondering if/when the zune software will get a similar redux (if they would even have an xbox music app on windows)... Assume atleast would have to be there for syncing windows phones unless this xbox app will take over for that.

It's just a crappy situation to be in. There are some features to Zune that are badly needed to enhance the syncing with Windows Phone, but until MS figures out what they are doing with that division (and judging by the Zune HD announcements, nobody seems to know whats going on) there won't be any upgrades to what is essentially our desktop client, the Zune software.

Didn't they also just lost several key Zune people? The whole division (well all of Microsoft) is one big clusterf*ck that have no idea what they are doing and what need to be promote.

I can all but chuckle when I see Apple promoting using physical button for camera as revolutionary thing for iOS5.

They're restructuring the division since earlier this year, I think. Moved in a new building, new positions (Jessica didn't even really know her title) and lot of personal changes. It's too bad that I stopped listening to the podcast, but it became too annoying.

I'll give that a shot, thanks!

Any other must have apps?

They just stopped doing the podcast (Zune Insider) due to being too busy.

I'm loving my Zune Pass, wish it would have launched in Canada sooner, but oh well.

I will not be buying an iphone this year due to the fact that I am starting to hate being a part of the whole apple ecosystem.
I live in the UK and am on O2 but all they have are the HT windows7 phones.
Can anyone recommend these phones and whether I would be better to wait?
Thanks.

Is that what they said? Because they were too busy? Lol, yeah right.

I listened to it but don't remember exactly what they said.... it was something to the effect of them not actually working specifically on zune anymore (I think the guy host said he was working on the w8 xbox app now). Now why they didn't find 2 other employees to continue the podcast does make it sound fishy. Almost as if there are no dedicated zune employees anymore.

I was about to stop listening anyways..... like others here have said it was a bit hard to stomach all the happy happy joy joy stuff they were putting out when it was obvious zune was not fine. It was nice getting to hear what was upcoming on the video stores.... really wish they would add an upcoming list to the zune xbox app so we can see when things are going to be available to rent/buy.... also for the studios who only allow you to purchase movies for the first week or two.... no reason why they can't inform us of that so I know when to come back to rent it.

It seems that internet sharing can work on every device, except for the Dell Venue Pro, which uses a different WiFi chip. LG Germany has already confirmed that the Optimus 7 is getting a small update to enable tethering and I think it was Orange in France, who conformed that they would enable it on their devices. Well see who's next and when the hacks are ready.

I may have missed it, but enabling tethering still comes at a price, doesn't it? Meaning the carrier surcharge.

Installed mango 2 weeks ago and today is the first time I'm hooking up my Surround to my laptop and I keep getting "device not recognized" errors when i connect it, and zune doesn't see it. I'm using the same cord as before and nothing changed on my laptop either. Anyone here of this?

Hmmm, Weather Live works fine for me.

What I love about Weather Live tile is the time stamp option. So I actually know exactly when it's been updated. I had them set up side by side for a couple days now and USA's app was more consistent with the updates. Though I just went in again to WeatherLive and for some reason they now have an hourly option where before it was just 4 times a day. Cool, now the battle is really on.

Ugh. I'm tempted to buy the Arrive, but I just absolutely hate the addition of a keyboard.

If only HTC can prove it to me that their keyboard sliders don't break over time, I'll do it, but I just can't.

I would hold off for a while. While the Arrive is decent it has some flaws. The speaker is poor and the spring mechanism for the keyboard sucks. Two things the Pro2 was excellent at they made worse.

*peeks into iOS5 thread*

Maybe Microsoft should do another free twitter giveaway of phones to disgruntled iPhone users too.
They'll do it monthly.

Every month, I’ll select a story that I think is unique and compelling and I’ll get that person a Windows Phone.

iOS upgrade horror stories aren't unique

haha nice

btw does anyone know who was responsible for the zune HD-look? this has to be the best looking media player of all time.

Is there any way to downgrade back to nodo? My battery on my surround is horrid since mango and I want to see if it is just as bad on nodo.

It's probably the chat stuff. That tends to zap battery.

I don't know what's wrong.

But I was just wondering. Is it me or is it mostly HTC customers are gettig shafted when they upgrade to mango.

So apparently Microsoft is dolling out $44 million for a mango advertisement campaign at the end of the year. Off hand, anyone know what Apple spends in advertising during the holidays? Or overall?

EDIT: Found this:

WTF! They spend twice as much? WHERE IS THIS MONEY GOING?

It better be. I can see where the scope of what Microsoft advertises is larger than Apple's but damn the sheer perception and spotlight on specific things Apple focuses on (iPhone) makes Microsoft's efforts in marketing look like poop. Is this really a jack of all trades master of none, quality over quantity thing? I can't believe that chart if true.

More comparisons in ad budgets between the two: http://www.tribbleagency.com/?p=3272

This shocks me.

Apple: Advertising costs are expensed as incurred. Advertising expense was $691 million, $501 million and $486 million for 2010, 2009 and 2008, respectively.

I saw another WP7 in the wild! Microsoft better make a big push, because iPhone 4S being on sprint takes away another place they could have built up. I hope they WP7 marketshare increases, since I think it is different enough from iOS and android to do well, if only more people would consider it.

samsung focus is stuck in some sort of boot loop. Won't go past the samsung logo and just keeps turning on, booting, and then shutting off.

Take is the phone is fucked? Tried a hard reboot and it doesn't help.

You've never used the voice texting feature in WP? Or even dialing or search? If not, then you're missing out.

I like voice dialing rather than opening contacts or the phone application.

"Call John Smith" is faster than using my fingers on the phone.

I haven't found any other voice commands particularly compelling on Windows Phone; I guess opening applications is useful rather than seeking them out. From the Siri stuff, I could see setting calendar dates being useful. The rest of it would probably only be used to attempt to impress friends.

Almost any time i text I'm on my breaks at work or with somebody, and i would feel weird talking to the phone to text.

I voice dial sometimes, but never voice to text. Just easier to type it out.

Microsoft's not helping the marketshare when they should be pushing the OS on CDMA carriers.

I agree, but natural language input + holding phone up to ear fixes this.
