Nothing in my life is exciting to take a pic off but Lumia 920 is a future-proof beast.

But 4.5 is too big for me. Ideally, I prefer 4 inch but 4.3 is not too shabby.

Don't get fooled by the screen size of the 8X. It's taller than the 920.

If the camera isn't a big deal then the 8x is a good buy. It's going to be cheaper, but it does have less storage. The 920 has 32gb vs the 8x with 16gb, so that might be a deal breaker.

I only download apps. Mobile games are FUD to me but I do buy one or two just to support the poor devs who invest in WP.

Yeah, it's looking like HTC 8X for me especially since I can have Nokia Drive on it.

Hmm....Goddamn, I need to see these two beasts in person.

nobody is getting cyan 920 in the uk and it's available on the one, shitty network? you pretty much deserve your terrible sales nokia. you have what is arguably the most exciting phone coming out & yet you treat it likw crap.

Nokia might still have some exclusive deals with app Developers/publishers. That might be a deal breaker.

ATT conferences on the horizon? I'm shocked the price, preorders and release date didn't come out of the conference today. I'm also shocked the Ativ S disappeared in the US.

Is it though? If the 920 is $99 on-contract (with Rogers at least), is the 8x going to be cheaper than that? My guess is that that 8x will be more expensive, $149 on-contract is my guess.

Yeah, I take that back. I had thought the 8x was announced for $99.99 today for Verizon but that was the tier 2 Nokia phone. They will likely be the same price then, imo.

As a phone, WP8 looks to be knocking it out of the park...games though...my biggest frustration seems to remain lack of consistent achievements/leaderboards and lack of universal apps with Windows 8 (even just buy once play on both would appease me), me giving them feedback about this is much less effective than someone like a journalist grabbing a manager and shaking sense into them.

Oh my, killer feature.

Those are the same emoji as Windows 8 uses, I know the people who work on that feature - they are in Japan believe it or not. Emoji on phones is harder than you can imagine to make work right because of the way all the different carriers in Japan use different mapping systems especially with legacy phones.

Rogers is such a huge scam. I wish I could get it for $99 on a 2 year contract instead of being forced into a 3. Even worse is if you chose a 2 year, suddenly your phone costs $500 upfront and the other $90 gets subsidized over your 2 years.

Maybe I should just buy it off contract and take it to wind. Yes I won't have 4G, but it'll be better than be Rogers :\

They do look pretty good, usually emoticons are too goofy for me but those look just about right.

All the major carriers blow for contracts.

Some of them are kind of strange, but it is kind of hard to create 500 little pictures and appease all countries/races/genders/etc ...

I found at least one trailer for WP8 games http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bij4fMQaCrY 12 games from Gameloft

Speaking as someone that has been gaming on iPad for the last 2 years, 12 games is like what I eat for breakfast :P

I want them to care as much about getting games like Dungeon Raid, Punchquest, 100000, etc, but I guess it is true that "normal" people (not strangely hardcore mobile games like are on GAF) care most about things like Temple Run and Angry Birds...

What about the accessories? I'd to order their bluetooth headset asap as I'd be keeping that even if I don't end up with a 920 later.

More important to me is if it works with the emoji from iOS and Android devices. Any word on that?

Steve Ballmer starring in an ad for Windows Phone. Guess he had to rehearse his presentation pretty good.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=B9zhklbjw20#!

Are they going to actually air that?

Thats not...that bad. I could see them airing with some success.

He says "...But there's one piece of advice that I'd give to everyone."

Then he never says what it is.
Looking closer, I think that last phrase isn't said because its written in the tile instead "...But there's one piece of advice that I'd give to everyone." "Windows Phone 8 is Gorgeous, Check it out". Of course I could be just grasping at straws

Lumia 920 US information is pathetic. No fucking release date? Just "November."

Awful job with the launch for such an amazing phone.

Nokia being Nokia or maybe its AT&T's job? Either way Nokia are idiots for making it exclusive. it seems like AT&T couldnt give a shit how a phone sells after it obtains exclusivity, as long as the other carriers can't have it.

I went into an ATT store and the manager swore up and down it was 11/11 and even gave me an unofficial preorder. He told me it would be $99.99 with 2 year contract; however, all of that is horseshit until they release some fucking information.

There's no way that the 920 kills the iPhone, but there is a lot of interest in in the States for it--interest that is dwindling with each minute.

If HTC didn't skimp on the battery for the 8X I actually would have tried out windows phone for the lulz, just to say that I've extensively tried every OS.

But they did skimp. At least that's what I gather from reading like 15 reviews. Some say it should be ok for the day but some say otherwise. All tested without LTE, which will be worse. Can't risk it. Drop the biscuit.

Why not run with the 920?

exclusive to the carrier I'm not with (Rogers in Canada) for god knows how many months. My upgrade is at the end of november.

Exclusivity is bullshit. I just don't get why HTC consistently skimps on battery. Also I'm not a fan of Samsung build quality and the ativ looks questionable to me, so I'm iffy on that. At least it has a battery though. If reviews for the ativ are GREAT then I'd set my samsung grudge aside and say fuck it and try it.

If a smartphone lasts a day that's good.
most reviews say it BARELY lasts a day, and some say it has trouble lasting a day, and all this is the non-lte version. Only few reviews say it's ok for a day, and once again, no LTE.

It's too little. HTC consistently does this. The One X also had shitty battery life. It's their thing.

September 5th: Lumia 920 announced for AT&T
October 29th: Price and availability still unknown with device releasing in Europe tomorrow

Apple
September 12th: Announced (Prices and carrier availability known on this date)
September 14th: Pre orders
September 21st: Device in the customers hands

Microsoft and Nokia need to learn from Apple and Google on how to release a product. No kids, no celebrities!

Those emoji are the easier ones to deal with because they are just using the Unicode version (maybe Google has some sort of "Google variant" of it, I am not sure), literally the only troublesome ones are like from Softbank or Docomo or KDDI in Japan.

I know you guys aren't going to like this, but the FB app is almost exactly the same. Lock screen options notwithstanding.

This. I'm sick of the iPhone, and am currently holding off on getting the 5 in favor of the 920. My iPhone 4 is close to dying, so if I don't hear anything about the 920 in the next few weeks I'm just going to order the 5. Hurry up Nokia/AT&T.

Renewed (probably false) hope for Canada:

Maybe Rogers exclusivity isn't long? But rumour has it it's 6 months. If it is, MS should not put "and others" for a while :/

Probably a mistake by MS, or they just mean when the exclusivity is over in 1 to 6 months, in which case, shut up.

Saw that, if we could get confirmation that it is a month exclusive that would be ok. I'm with Rogers, but I don't want black.
