The Light of El Cantare
Well, it's not like there are many places left to go with mechanical design that are completely 'out there'. After four decades of creations, of all shapes, scales, textures and aesthetics it's pretty difficult to be 'wholly original'.

I don't think that anyone expects anything new necessarily, just good design.

And by good I mean 2D.

Sure, I'm just saying TTGL isn't sort of grand example of unique mecha design. Mecha designers do "go outside the box", they don't need follow TTGL to do that.

I might sound like I dislike TTGL or something from these remarks, but I don't.

3D designs can be ok. The modelling in BRS for example is pretty damned great.
However, a tool is nothing without creativity behind it, and there seems to be a dearth of it. I know that there are still tons of talented artists out there, so where the fuck did they all go?

Are we pretending not to be on the Nisemonogatari train now?

I'm not even pretending. I've seen a handful of trashy shows and written about them at length, at LENGTH, so I assumed it would be obvious that I wasn't being serious.

Then they expect too much.

I do appreciate ACTUAL characters. they are better than those invasive species of useless filler characters I must admit. But HNNNG is of utmost importance. That aspect MUST be upheld.

Then why aren't you watching Inu X Boku? Surely you saw the post on the last page? Now imagine 9 episodes filled with that and similar hnnnngh.

So called 'trashy shows' can be worth your time if they are exceedingly bad, to the point where they stand head and shoulders above other works in the same field. That's actually fair hard to achieve, because most bad shows just tend to end up as boring instead of amazing.

Oh I saw it. I SAW IT.
And I'm going to hook that shit up to my veins very soon.
Its gonna be a Redline/Inu X Boku kind of night here.

This is what liking K-On ultimately leads to. Let this be a lesson.

I resent your insinuations about people who like K-on. :(

I take it you are watching BRS, then?

Well, I didn't mean to connect "mundane" and "boring." My point is you can have good, interesting protagonists with mundane jobs, and bad, boring protagonists with incredibly interesting jobs. It's about the inner life and development of the character, not their outer circumstances.
Agreed. My post was like that because of the impressions I recollect from Mr. Miyazaki's opinion, and I took the word you used to continue with the discussion (I probably should have quoted his text itself).

Sure, I'm just saying TTGL isn't sort of grand example of unique mecha design.
It is precisely because it goes beyond what many would do now in incorporating cues from many sources, without being strident. Like an homage and labor of love, I think it is an inspired work because retains many things from those four decades that Jexhius mentioned, and makes it fresh and well thought.

Victorique is the tsundere loli the world needs, but does not deserve.

Yes, amazingly terrible shows are quite the rare flower.

Victorique was cute but ultimately forgettable.
The show in general was pretty much, which is a shame. So much hnnng potential wasted.

As for amazingly terrible shows even BRS is falling short of that, but it has potential.
There is really nothing right now that quite lives up to the legendary status of our evergreens.

One for the books, at that!

Eh, I'd argue that her situation wouldn't naturally build up to a jam packed personality.

Too much hnnng would've been like adding a gallon of water to a small packet of Kool-Aid! (Erm, maybe I should switch that around)

It's not that the show was that bad, it was just dull. The mysterious and such oftentimes were not all that hard to figure out and a lot of the tension and intrigue was sucked right out along with it.

Ah My Goddess OAV 04
I get it that they only had 5 episodes planned out for the OAV, so I can see why they couldn't do all fun and happy episodes. But, wow, wasn't this episode extremely dramatic. It totally feels different from what I'm used to from this series which is fun little episodes sprinkled with will they ever do something, but wow, total opposite direction with everyone being sad. :[

I can't say that I'm a fan of the high-priced physical media angle, especially as it means I simply wouldn't buy a lot of stuff, but it seems to be the most successful model for now.

in every other nation that has a media this is called a suicide.

On that matter... what characters do you guys consider good in a bad show? Show me your examples!

Are invalid the typical secondary type that appears only a couple of minutes, please.

I was going to say God in Maria Holic, but that doesn't fit your criteria. Hmmmm.. recently I would say Madoka in Rinne No Lagrange; however, I've only seen up to episode 3 and have no desire in seeing any more.

It is a creative way to describe the situations in that show for certain.

I'm not familiar enough with the show itself though to understand quite what he means by using that particular term.
