It's really not all THAT random. The local grocer gives the 3yo a free banana because she's adorable or something and then starts putting a bag together of other free fruit. It's not like some random guys in a suit walks up and says "Here, have banana", jams it in her face, and then walks on. THAT would be hilarious.
Yeah, I just watched it and it wasn't awkward at all.

Okay, it was a little awkward, but at least it wasn't random.

Nothing much to say... yet another "all about the sport" episode with the requisite team building at the end. But I am totally happy that
Taichi lost like a suckah
. What an amazing outcome.

I think Nichijou was the best show of 2011.

Oh at that occasion does anyone know how the rerun of Nichijou is doing?
I mean what they cut and how they composed the sketches within an episode.

Someone on some anime forum is giving synopsis', but I have not heard about the ratings myself.

I've pretty much accepted that it's boned. I just want it released here, or else I will import from the Kangaroo Land (madman Entertainment) when the time comes.

A lot of people enjoyed it, myself included, but using it in conjunction to slander Azumanga is not good.

Ah, well, didn't mean to offend. Just didn't quite enjoy it.

Speaking of shows that are clearly better than Nichijou.

Daily Lives of High School Boys 2-4

Not my favorite comedy, but I like what they're trying to do. They sometimes fall into the trap of trying much too hard to be funny without actually writing/composing anything humorous or clever, but it's not as widely utilized as in a certain other recent comedy that shall remain unnamed.

Also, in what I'm figuring is either an amusing irony or a calculated design by the production team, this show is at its best whenever girls are prominently involved.

I'm pretty sure re-aired Nichijou is going to bomba unless they want to print new BDs of the re-air, which is just edited segments from the original. Still not sure how they're trying to recoup costs, and the disinterest in the re-air is so loud right now. Doesn't bode well for it personally.

I feel like I can almost grasp what's going on, but a few threads are still eluding me. It gets a bit repetitive pointing out how good it every time I watch a new episode, I need to think of new things to say.

hey firehawk, Taichi already won the game of life, he doesn't need some shitty card game victories. Take that!

At this point I'd just like to see it, at least.

You do have the option of waiting until you finish the series.

NEVER. I must post my impressions as they come, it would take all the fun out of waiting til the end of the series, unless I was marathoning it.

If you don't have much to say just pad your posts out with pictures. It doesn't need to be of the show - it could be anything!

The way a comedy can utilize a visual medium is distinctly different from the usual values associated with a visual production on its own. Not that a show can't strive towards both goals of course

I'm watching dennou Coil on my TV with my sister, which makes it a lot harder to take screenshots. Although I could just grab other pictures, as you've suggested.

The only way to get the K-On!!!!!!!!! movie BD will be to send in proofs of purchase from every volume of Nichijou.

It doesn't look as good as Nichijou, but there are a lot less boring parts.

I'm just looking for laughter, though visuals never hurt. Watching the first ep. now, seems worth a try.

I don't haet Nichijou, I just really like Azumanga.

I started off kinda disliking Nichijou, but the atmosphere of the show grew on me a lot, and by the end I genuinely liked it.

No lie, the same happened to me. But my like went overboard the ship and swam onto lovers land,(once I imported the art/guidebook I couldn't deny this).

I think I overall dislike Nichijou but certain characters do make it interesting on occassion and the second half feels a bit better (first opening was superior though, why couldnt they keep it for the whole thing?! :/)

Though I love it for the visual things they would do like

Better late than never?: Madoka Magica streaming on Crunchyroll starting tomorrow.

And that's not to say it looks bad. At least, I haven't had a problem with the art/animation yet.

Certainly few shows can claim the top-notch KyoAni production values that Nichijou can. That said, I do feel Daily Lives of Highschool Boys has below average art and animation - the backgrounds in particular are incredibly sparse. It doesn't quite go into the ugly territory though.

It's in the NHK; NHK anime isn't meant to sell BDs/DVDs, it earns money by airing and getting good ratings.

Sometimes I can't tell if the art is intentionally bad in Daily Lives of Highschool Boys for laughs. I know it probably isn't...but I just have to tell myself it is.

Nichijou has some funny parts. I mean, it's not K-On or anything like that.

Man, this show has alot, ALOT of problems with pacing and framing. I mean, the whole crush on your adult uncle is one thing, and something I could totally overlook since there's now not one, but TWO adult rivals with sweet racks that at the least make you think "Okay, this COULD end up not turning creepy", even if the show flirts with it quite a bit, but it's all so sloppily put together, like they're trying to throw diasporate elements of the manga together to make something cohesive and failing utterly so it ends up with this mess of plot points and slice of life that has very little cohesion or is just plain unnecessary.

On a slightly related note, Sako is the kind of guy I'd actively beat the shit out of. His skill for knowing what girls look like by the sound of their voice is certainly amusing, but Jesu Christi, I'd like nothing better than to kick the shit out of him with a baseball bat. The sad part, guys like Sako are exactly the ones making this show popular. At this point, I'm watching for the guaranteed Raika fanservice next episode.

Achieving visual competency is not the least you can do in a visual medium, even for a comedy. It's kind of a basic thing which should be striven for.

Not that I don't enjoy a finely detailed background, but I'm not sure how that would be considered paramount to the crafting of the humor in a comedy show. Maybe its just me, but what I consider visually competent and acceptable varies from genre to genre.

I haven't seen the Nichijou reair show up in the TV rating lists at all, but I'm not sure if NHK shows appear there since I haven't seen any.

Sometimes I can't tell if the art is intentionally bad in Daily Lives of Highschool Boys for laughs. I know it probably isn't...but I just have to tell myself it is.

I think it's more a case of having no budget than intentionally aiming for bad art. But Daily Lives is self-aware about it, as the pre-OP segments and sponsor messages show, which helps make it bearable.
