Winter 2012 Anime Thread 2.22: You Can (Not) Outpost Cajunator

Oh, it wasn't that bad, though that content was probably handled better in the manga. Are you watching it subbed or dubbed?

Not just probably but the manga is a lot better than the anime. Read it, guys!

Tanabe has a different character, the story is more about the daily life of the entire crew than Tanabe centric like the anime. And the anime is just the first half of the manga, the second half is maybe the best low scifi stuff ever.

You might just want to ditch the anime and read the manga instead. The manga is only four volumes long, so the anime has a lot of filler. I personally liked most of it, but you don't seem to be enjoying it.
NO!

Get through the first half. The second half is what makes the entire show worth watching and it's not what you find in the manga.

Yeah, the anime is good, but the manga is fantastic. I just wish it wasn't out of print. :(

I only suggested it so he wouldn't end up hating the anime, quitting, and then never touching the glorious manga. :<

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Japan misrepresenting people whose lives revolve around misrepresentations of Japan.

I would appreciate the irony if I wasn't busy throwing up my innards.
I tried to warn you, Haly. I tried!
I was a fool!

For some reason I'm getting anxious about not watching enough, so I'm starting Dennou Coil, and I've watched one episode. I probably won't update each episode, but I'll watch when I have free time and check in periodically.

I didn't know this show had dogs. I'm a sucker for dogs. ;_;

I am going to finish it regardless so worry not.

Up to midway through I thought Planetes was nice but nothing that special outside being actual hard scifi. ;)

SPACE IS ACTUALLY SILENT OMG

There's this little animation tic that's really annoying. Very often I notice they'll draw one eye smaller than the other. I think it's supposed to hint at perspective but it just looks awful.

The character art is meh in general.

Lies and fucking heresies. I have the first two volumes and they aren't bad, but they have in no way ever approached the feels I got from the anime.

That said maybe the rest of the manga is amazing. I'll have to find it, but I'm not trekking back up to Canada to browse $10 bookstores for a while I bet.

If the first volume didn't make you feel anything, you must have a frozen heart. D:
Yuri's story makes me tear up every time. ;_;

Catching up:

Persona 4 18
Spend a whole episode on two social links was really well done. Though, I guess I am just spoiled by that five in one episode.

But, awww, adorable Nanako.

HACHI IS A PEDO.

Planetes 7:
Now we're getting somewhere.

What are some recommendations for anime on adolescence, with a deep connection to peer relationships?

This is surprisingly tough. A lot of anime features teenagers, but not as many focus on adolescence and adolescent relationships as such. What I can think of:

Anne of Green Gables (childhood through adolescence)
FLCL (maybe?)
Gankutsuou (doesn't seem like it at first glance, but can be seen as Albert's journey from adolescence to adulthood)
Hanasaku Iroha (coming of age)
Wandering Son (more puberty than adolescence per se)

Erm...I've heard Ano Hana is good?

It's not!

Really enjoyed Gankutsuou.

Anyways, man, this is the first place I've seen more than....0 people declare dislike for Ano Hana so openly. Because as blizzard stated, it seems that everywhere but here couldn't get enough of it.

Anime pacing was better I feel. Manga really gets off to a rip-rollicking start and I think it impacts the feels.
Nah, you just read too fast. :p

That's because classy people with taste be up in this thread, well some.

You made a good choice then.

That because most of those people haven't seen things that make Ano Hana look not as good as it could've been.

Eh. One from a gaming friend I talk to over Skype and some recommendations on forums regarding Funi's localization survey.

Heard the premise, wasn't my swag.

This is why you can't trust other anime communities; they unironically recommend shows like Ano Hana and Angel Beats.

Ano Hana gets much better once you treat it as a comedy and learn to laugh at all the nonsense. Episode 11 was pretty great in that regard.

That because most of those people haven't seen things that make Ano Hana look not as good as it could've been.

I don't think you need to see all that much to realize how flawed Ano Hana is.

I want to ask people who actually like Ano Hana.

What's remotely good about it? It can't be the nonsensical story? How about unresolved plot threads? The overwrought melodrama?

Erm...I've heard Ano Hana ("Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai" for long) is good?

The premise, from what I've heard, seems to fit with that request.

If you like Key type drama then you may enjoy it. It's weak characters and poor writing make it worse than those shows though, or at least on the low end of Key anime. It did have some decent visuals, and I enjoyed the soundtrack.

So in short, no its not. If you want a good drama, watch the far superior Hanasaku Iroha instead.

I've never even seen it, but I'd imagine people like it because they can relate to the whole "friends drifting apart" thing. Also feels. Feels everywhere.

I could really relate to the part about
friends crossdressing as dead loli friends and running through the woods.
