You know, while watching Bake, I actually came to like the character of Koyomi since it didn't delve too deep into the pit of harem leads (even when I was still of the opinion that it was more about the mysteries and banter than the actual harem he managed to acquire), but the way he's been going/portrayed in Nise with the excessive sibling groping and "questionable by any other means" things he's been going on with along with after realizing that this is a harem style anime is kinda making me dock some points from him now.

Meanwhile, Shinobu's "Is such a thing really possible" while browsing through the donut selection blindsided me and got a good chuckle from me. Then how about just re-introducing Kaiki in such a marvelously underwhelming manner? :lol

Gotta say though, I knew from this thread that the two new girls were to be antagonists, but I totally wasn't expecting as direct an approach as what they used. I thought with how muted everything was in this season/sequel series we'd get a lot more subversion and subtlety like with Kaiki.

Catnapped! (More than just a Studio Ghibli knockoff)

Dat western audience appeal!

I think if I had seen this movie as a child it would have blown my mind. But now it works more as another step to furthering my appreciation/knowledge of the medium.

The plot is interesting, if a bit silly: Two siblings are taken by some very cat-like creatures to their alternate dimension to help stop their dog since it has been turned into a giant monster by an evil sorceress witch cat-lady. Also, take note Hosoda, the kids get transformed into cats whenever they get to the cativerse and only look slightly creepy. The movie actually gets a whole lot more interesting whenever the villainess is introduced and her backstory is explained.
She is an insane and cold hearted brat

The whole thing is beautifully animated and the visuals more than enough to keep you interested. There are some sequences once the movie reaches the cat universe that look great. The magician sequence in particular made my jaw drop down to the ground. The whole place has a kaleidoscopic/carnival intermingling look to it. To avoid the Ghibli comparisons seems impossible, Geneons (Then Pioneer) push into the children’s market that Ghibli was dominating seems pretty clear. The movie its self seems best compared to Spirited Away, thought it precedes it by 6 years.

My biggest issue with the movie is a scene where we see how the relationship is strained between Toryasu and Papadoll. This should be a big emotional scene where we get some context... but instead they play some completely inappropriate bubbly music over it. Worse yet, is that they do it twice!

Did I love it? Not really, but in the end it was pretty enjoyable.

Watched 40 episodes of Fairy Tail over the last few days. Have a "why the hell am I watching this!?" flash every few episodes. But im hooked, normally I dislike this type of show but I think it has a good balance of comedy, action, characters, music, etc.

Aww isn't she the most adorable thing.

Watching all this in animated form is simply glorious, I think I have a tear in my eye.

Yes, Gintama references its own Wikipedia article.

Tis sad. It appears we have two more weeks left before Gintama' comes to a close. Starting April 2 Gintama is being replaced with this. A one year hiatus gave us one years worth of anime before it caught back up to the manga. No word, but I fully expect Gintama to return in 2013. :)

When the
Yellow Line race was better than the Red Line race,
I think it failed as a movie. It was mostly a sakugafest near the end with no stakes behind it.

If the audience has no stakes in the action than the action is pointless.

TSF Monogatari 2: :( They fuck over all my favourites. Mizugi Kanojo, Menkui!, and now this. :(
What if you disagree with the message? :)
That's a perfectly reasonable stance. My point is along the lines that you shouldn't ignore author intent just because you don't like to look at something in a more thoughtful manner.

Well that sucks. Wonder if I should start reading the manga.

Just finished watching Kizuna Ichigeki and Ojisan no Lamp. Both were great, each in it's own way.

Should I bother watching the other two shorts from the project? They don't seem as interesting.

The other two shorts aren't as interesting, but are still worth watching.

I'm glad that Gintama avoids the padding that kills many a long-running shounen by taking these hiatuses. Their willingness to do this is just one of many reasons why I respect the Gintama anime team so much.

I like the irony of holding up Sword of the Stranger as a counterexample to the cliched & generic characterization and plotting of Redline.

I don't think anyone was holding up Sword of the Stranger as a bastion of originality, but simply as a more coherent and effective story. (I say this without wishing to comment on Redline itself, which I haven't yet seen.)

Great just great, the second I want to start a series it goes on hiatus, ugh.

Yeah, Sword of the Stranger is about as generic as you can get in those departments.
Thankfully they don't matter!!

Shit, I bet if you looked hard enough you could find a Japanese samurai movie from the late 50s/entire 60s/early 70s with the exact same story/plot/whatever.

Also, ep 25, first time I've ever actually recognized work from an animator I've seen before, although I can't remember his name. I recognized it as the style of some Naruto episodes and bits of the FMA movie, specifically how there was quite a bit of QUALITY at some points, and and debris whenever someone was punched through a wall came out as a perfect cube lol.

If pay attention you'll notice this particular technique being used all over the place. I guess it's kind of like a shortcut - instead of drawing a million unique pieces of debris you can use cubes to get the motion across.

At least somebody gets it. :(

Have you watched any more Birdy?

Redline is no more or less coherent, nor effective in what it sets out to do narratively. Those are pretty low standards for narrative in the first place, but I suppose this is anime we're talking about.

You say that as if there's no room for debate, when I'm pretty sure there is.

I think it's fair to say that in the first season Araragi was a fairly questionable fellow, but in Nisemonogatari he's collapsed into a raging pervert, and not in the good wholesome sense like Ataru.

God god, this show is pissing me off.
So need to kill the dead person to stop all this shit? Mei told you many episode ago that she could dead people. Yet, you don't ask her until much later after hearing the tape? Really?
I really hope everyone in show, except for Mei, dies horribly.

Eh, I've watched nearly twice that much Sailor Moon in a single sitting before. It's a highly consumable show. It's perfect to marathon.

I think Sailor Moon lends it's self well to a marathon but I could never just sit and watch ten episodes of anything in a row. I lack the conviction some of you have for marathons.

You're what is wrong with the industry today.

Because I'm buying anime?

As long as you leave Mei out of it, this position is fine.

With all due respect I must disagree. Sailor Moon is made to watch, digest and process one episode at a time and not in some kind of marathon. Each episode deserves a fairly amount of time dedicated to it, including lengthy writeups and multiple viewings of single episodes.

It doesn't come across to me as much more complex than CCS for a good while. The first season anyway. I can't comment much beyond that far. I was watching DiC's awful dub on TV but the episodes were easy to understand and passed quickly, even the less edited ones.

God fucking damn this show and it's fucking delaying tactics, this is much worse than last episodes cassette tape (retro lol).

At least we got some backstory on Mei.

My money is on the head of countermeasures being the "extra", I've been thinking it was her since many episodes ago.

I reached that hypothesis an episode or so ago too, I think it would certainly be fitting.

I would like to see all the Another deaths in gif form. That's surely the best way to enjoy the show.

Your anime buying habits are part of the reason why prices don't go down. :(

I fought myself long and hard about this purchase, weighing the positives and negatives of it, then realizing that many others are actually buying this, and my contribution to it isn't really going to change Aniplex's mind about this business model anyway.
Ultimately the collectability of this set, as well as the obvious future difficulty of getting it, should I change my mind later, swayed me to buying it. I haven't really had to think this hard about buying any set before in the past because the possible ramifications of purchasing it did not lead to a business model such as this. I do not agree with this kind of thing, but it really just came down to deciding that, yes, I do want this series enough to pay for it.

I really hope it DOESN'T lead to higher pricing but if that's what I have to pay to pursue a hobby I genuinely love, then so be it. another thing I thought about was that my prior spending habits in this market actually did not affect its path towards CHEAPER anime, after the market crashed. Obviously this market cannot sustain itself on this type of release either.

Finally started watching some of the winter season titles.
Is the lack of a fourth floor on the hospital elevator some foreshadowing of things to come since the number four in Japanese culture is connected with death?

Yeah, this news sucks. I didn't think anything would put a damper on my hype for Spring, but this was it.

Well that sucks. Wonder if I should start reading the manga.

Gintama's the one long-running series in which I've avoided the source, largely. Not because it's any weaker than the adaptation by any fault of its own, but because Sugita and crew really are about irreplacable, and I can never continue an adaptation after having read ahead, for some reason. R.I.P Sket Dance, it wasn't your fault.

At least Sword of the Stranger had an ending.

But Sword of the Stranger had no Love.
