So much sweat!

Thankfully the show recovered its production values this week. The storyboarding was exciting and dramatic, making the karuta games come alive. The art was quite good, especially in the second half, making me feel Taichi's passion and drive. And let's not forget Chihaya's reaction faces:

The moments of team bonding at the end were thoughtfully done and brought out the chemistry the members have with each other. May the show finish as strong as this!

Aria the Natural 8: How very appropriate for it to be Valentines and have this episode's content coincide with this holiday. However it seems to be Venice's version (unsurprising considering the setting of Aria). It's starts off with the Acqua Alta approaching and Akari basking its presence. While the series portrays the event as quite serene and romantic, I'd imagine the real thing isn't quite always as pleasant haha. It still does look pretty cool though. As Alicia is off to business, Akari is reminded that it's Bocolo day and wonders about the who would be receiving roses today. Before she can do much else, mean old Akatsuki calls. Sometimes I forget that the level technology (video phones!) is quite high despite the gondolas and such, you simply get lost in the atmosphere. Akatsuki drags Akari out to help his selfish needs of collecting roses to give to his beloved Alicia because one rose isn't enough to convey all of his feelings.

While assisting in Akatsuki's request, there are women and girls all over with red roses. Along the way Akari sees Alice (how cute) and it seems she received a rose herself albeit a courtesy one from the baker. When asks if she would give a rose it seems Alice is not one to give courtesy roses (although she does end up giving Athena a little something cute). Further along, Aika appears and has same intentions to give Alicia a rose much to Akatsuki's chagrin. Alicia is so loved. On that note it seems like both Athena and Akira are also recipients of many roses from all sorts of fans (particularly female ones). I usually find this trope amusing but the older Undines of the series are all pretty cool. Even further along we find Woody delivering roses all over the place (even has an order from Akatsuki). One of my relatives works a flower shop. Valentines and its ilk are always a maddening time of the year.

When nearing the end of this flower extorting journey, Akari hears the story associated with this lovely day from one of the flower sellers. Suffice to say embarrassing things were uttered. Once the collecting ended, the pair practiced for our bro's confession to Alicia. Only to have the person in question appear with a gondola full of roses to boot. Of course Alicia mistakes all of their roses as a gift to Akari from Akatsuki and quickly leaves the scene. I found the proceeding scene really funny with Akatsuki going "come back...back...back...back".

All of those roses didn't go waste though. They made for some nice scenery as they floated along the waters. On the flip side of this pair is Aika and Al who met up and have their own little romantic moment. The episode ends on a hnnnng note with Akari being given a rose from Akatsuki. I can see where this will be going later on in this season or Origination. I don't dislike this at all! As always Ai closes off the episode as Akari starts it. I can't wait for the build of these letters to sprout fruit.

A fun episode. Lots of hnnnnnng and cute. No :firehawk: moments really but just a nice fun episode where some of relationships of the cast get a little love involved. Of course no episode of Aria is complete without funny faces. Unlike last time, this had a plethora of them.

President Aria can deliver me a rose anytime.

It's... beautiful. O_O I want to print it and hang on my wall. Wait, no. This belongs in a museum for future generations to bear witness to.
Yeah I think it would work out really well if it were framed above my work area. Maybe a golden frame with a black matte letter box backing.

All I see is a slut who'll never amount to anything.

Planetes 10:
Of course it's the Russian guy who's all deep and introspective and stuff.

The Light of El Cantare
Yuina's hnnnng is somewhat impaired by the fact that she's an airhead and a slacker. She was probably my least-favorite HanaIro girl, even behind HOBIRON.

Maybe she'll be the owner of one in season 2. (which yes, it is happening apparently)

Truly great days in store for all of us.

But Ohana loses to both Kaoru and Joshua in the sex hair department.

uhhh, this felt like a trailer or a pilot or something not a coherent show

Potemayo 1
Not QUITE as random as Pugyuru but still pretty cute and fun, and just a little messed up

Petpeto-san 1-3
Pretty enjoyable so far, not sure if I'm disappointed the "monster" girls all look 100% normal or if that's an important plot element yet

Pita-ten 1
I cant remember why I got this but zzzzzzzzzz

Ground Defence Mao-chan
Why are we spending all our military budget on 8 year old girls? because SHUT UP THATS WHY. This is like Centurions gone horribly wrong or horribly right, we'll see.

Dirty Pair: Project Eden

After the big disappointment that was Affair of Nolandia, Project Eden was a huge turnaround. In fact it was amazing, easily the best Dirty Pair related media I have seen thus far. The images above are part of the outstanding OP to the movie, as seen here. While I have seen this OP previously its even more impressive to watch with the full movie, particularly considering where it kicks in during the film.

As a total package this movie is one of the most entertaining pieces of anime I've ever seen. It brings out all of the best aspects of Dirty Pair, and combines it with some really outstanding visuals/animation (this whole movie looks amazing, it really should have a BD release), an exciting story, and a kickass cheesy 80's soundtrack(although this is a bit of a double edged sword, more on that later). Everything that was wrong with Nolandia is set right in this installment. The old character art is back, and looks great. The humor is back in spades, with some truly hilarious moments. The plot is much more in line with a traditional Dirty Pair episode from the TV series mixing action, humor, and a bit of drama very effectively. It's also far better directed than Nolandia. Ignoring the amazing visuals portrayed, the narrative is told very well with much better pacing and lacking the confusion found in Affair of Nolandia, and there is some pretty cool shot framing as well.

Kei and Yuri are at their best in this movie. Their personalities, which I thought were rather subdued in Nolandia, come on much stronger in Project Eden. The back and forth between them is much better, plus they get some added support from a cool thief who tags along on their mission. Some of my favorite moments in the film are facilitated by the girls being their normal over the top selves.

The plot itself is pretty much the perfect Dirty Pair setup. Following a botched sting operation to catch some thieves, Kei and Yuri are tasked with investigating an alien attack on some mineral factories. Of course the factory is deserted save for one of the thieves from earlier in the movie, Carson (the cool looking dude above), and of course the deadly aliens who ambush the girls and their new friend. This eventually leads them to the real culprit, a mad scientist who has been trying to create a new life form. It progresses from there much as you'd except. The girls escape death, get the bad guy, and fly away after destroying everything. This is accompanied by some fabulous action scenes throughout the film. It's very much a humorous take on your typical mad scientist plot, with some shades of Aliens as well.

The one thing that was a bit problematic at times in the movie was the music. As I mentioned earlier, the soundtrack is very 80's, its pretty cheesy and cool. However, there are a couple times where I questioned how the music was used near the end of the film. The music itself was cool, it was just used a bit awkwardly I think. It mostly works, and works well, but it is as small caveat to an otherwise excellent anime film.
