What are some recommendations for anime on adolescence, with a deep connection to peer relationships?

For actual, serious answers:

Haibane Renmei
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
Whisper of the Heart
Colorful (film)
Black Rock Shooter OVA
Only Yesterday
5cm Per Second
The Place Promised in Our Early Days

The Light of El Cantare
I could really relate to the part about
friends crossdressing as dead loli friends and running through the woods.

Personally, I appreciated the great care that went into ensuring that
what Menma could interact with
remained consistent and that we were never given a clear answer on
whether or not she was just in Jintan's head
.

Yeah and the Ghost Writer thing was so deep and profound?

It enhances the show more than them hypothetically getting 26 episodes to tell the story would've ever done.

It would be better if it was 26 episodes...and had good writers.

The only part I could relate to was when they were playing Pokemon

That was a bright spot. It was part of the magical first few episode that were quite good. You could see the decline in real time as people dropped out of Team Ano Hana week by week after the 3rd or 4th episode.

Anaru is the best character because she's hot but she's actually a secret nerd like me, and she's a tsundere that makes her moe, I would make her my girlfriend and save her from a rapist like the crossdresser did.

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Planetes 8:
Decent, even if it was very predictable.

Planetes 9:
ROMCOM ALERT. ROMCOM ALERT. ALL HANDS ON DECK. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.

My favorite part of the series is where it takes until episode 7 for Jintan to realize he can
easily prove Menma is real. And then they never help Menma talk to her family, because they're total douchebags.

I will always be part of Team Ano Hana. Even though it's an awful anime, I will never join Team Boring.

Chihayafuru 19:
That was some intense action. I was happy to see
Nishida win
, although the other match had the opposite outcome of what I hoped for. It was great to see how the tournament affected everyone and we got some nice character development (and some
Taichi angst
), and that ending was very promising for the future.

It's the ultimate vindication for those who argue that anime is best storytelling medium on the planet =^_^=

Don't believe his lies!

As you can see, Black Rock Shooter has its detractors, but they're generally deranged individuals with terrible taste and resort to calling people who disagree with them liars. You'd be a fool to miss out on the defining animated work of the past ten years because a single person thinks you shouldn't watch it. The viewing experience is akin to sharing an expensive box of macaroons with a friend.

Don't you talk about Makise Kurisu that way.

Ano Hana I can let slide but Angel Beats lol

The anime had good OST, animations and art but I don't like how the characters can't die...It makes the whole conflict seems completely idiotic and pointless. Why bother to even fight? I only saw the first episode lol. IMO Higurashi is kinda underrated in general. I found it to be one of the best series of the decade.

Don't get me started on Angel Beats, I could write a whole dissertation on what's wrong with that nonsense...

So who want's to join me in the "deranged individuals with terrible taste" club?

Even if I was actually willing to watch Angel Beats, I probably wouldn't because that picture is sooooooooooo good without any context and I don't want to ruin that.

So who want's to join me in the "deranged individuals with terrible taste" club?

Don't make me explain that I was being sarcastic! Giving fake recommendations is hard work.

I think the best part about that image is the guy with the blue hair. It's like he is trying to cover his face in shame.
