Just now saw Blood C's uncensored finale.

Was as expected.

right now, the only interesting thing about Evol seems to be Zessica. Please let me know what else is there if I'm wrong about this.

I would say the mecha but I'm not a big fan of their designs and the fact that they're 3D. It might be more interesting if you tortured yourself with the original, that way your expectations will be low so everything will look so much better.

Anyway, he's hungry for more Ikuhara, so we're going to slow-roll Utena together.

Revolutionary Girl Utena 1

Oh god I'm so confused. Everything kind of makes sense until she gets to the forest, and then it's like Penguindrum all over again, except the origin of all this magic and strangeness is even more unclear. I forgot what it was like to be this disoriented. I mean, what the hell is this school?

That said, Ikuhara's flair for striking visual imagery still holds. The silhouette actors, the shadow chorus, the dueling grounds floating in space... it definitely captures the imagination.

I don't have enough to go on yet to make any kind of predictions about the why of anything, but I look forward to learning more.

So, you're new to this whole Utena thing, huh? You missed the big watching season a few months ago where quite a few people were getting into it (courtesy of the DVD release and Penguin Drum). Anyhoo, I hope you both enjoy it.

The DVD release is a very very pretty thing by the way. I recommend getting the sets. not sure if you can still get a signet ring though.

Ano Natsu 10

The focus on all the side characters, who coincidentally are more interesting then the mains, was all well done[...]
This is a telling comment I feel. If you look past all the 'will they or wont they' antics regarding Ichika and Boob-Alien I don't really care about their characters inn the slightest. I have no interest in seeing what they'd do with the rest of their lives outside of this very specific set-up.

I feel that the sign of a strong character in any show with a 'romance' aspect is whether you'd still be interested in seeing what they were up to if it had nothing to do with that particular romantic plot.

Once I got used to it in two or three episodes I dont have a problem with it, I think it makes the Aquarion mechs look unique and fitting for what they accomplish with the attacks and skills.

Everybody could tell that Ichika was going to win this contest from the start so it's not fun rooting for her. Team Lemon is way more fun and Team Kanna is way more HNNNG.

So, I was finally able to convince one of my friends to watch Penguindrum after I saw the ending and told him it was like that time he watched Evangelion mixed with that time he watched Madoka or something (whatever works, right?). I knew it was something he'd like, and as he gave me his reactions during his marathon of the series, I was glad to be proven right. Reliving the series again through his reactions to it made me appreciate it even more.

Awesome, I haven't seen Utena either so I think I'll join you, it's an AnimeGAF Sacred Cow (tm) after all.

DVDs appear to be cheapish on Amazon UK, native 4:3 (when will they learn?) of course, but I can fix that.

I love Zessica, but Kagura is a thousand times more interesting than her. He's essentially the main character of the prequel (who is 8 billion times better than Evol's protagonist), but more evil.

Andy is also a cool guy who likes holes.

I just thought I'd pose a little challenge to see how well folks in this thread can work out what 'the anime community' thinks about a given anime title. In this case, I am referring to everyone's favourite pointless metric: ANN scores.

So, for example, can anyone have a guess at working out the name of this particular anime? (Without trying to look it up!) I'll give you a hint - it's a very well respected title! Barely anyone (apparently) dislikes this show, or even thinks that it's average.

Trust & Betrayal? Seems a bit low for that though.

This is dangerous territory here. It's almost like you're implying that it deserves to sell well because it's actually well made, when in reality that's probably not the main cause of it's success!

Of course nothing has ever sold because it's well made, and the bulk of "anime fans" are even worse at distinguishing that than the general public is. But it's a happy coincidence that I enjoy seeing whenever something that sells also happens to be a high-quality work.

People who watch BLood-C love themselves. It is a joy to watch Blood-C.
did Saya's singing not stir something joyous in your soul?

Blood C 4
Minor bug: Stop that singing!

Oh my...

Cowboy Bebop?

To be fair, ANN ratings are truly awful.

Angel Beats

Bakemonogatari

Anohana

Oh shit, it really is AnoHana.

Speaking of anime fans...

One thing to note is how susceptible the average anime fan is to melodramatic emotional manipulation, considering Angel Beats, Clannad, Ano Hana - even Bakemonogatari has some of that.

So question about the end of the Edolas arc of Fairy Tail
they keep saying how Edolas Erza has good in her heart so are they just forgetting about all the people she supposedly killed?

Haly

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
Like how game review scores really go from 7-10, ANN ratings go from Very Good to Masterpiece.
