I wouldn't recommend most of that to newcomers.

Well, indeed. In order we have:

1) Sequel
2) Over 50 episodes so if they don't like it then that's a big investment
3) Needs at least some familiarity with otaku culture
4) Spin-off
5) Sequel
6) Sort-of sequel
7) Fine - stands alone, is one of the better Ghibli films IMO
8) Fine, I guess? I wouldn't recommend it personally but there you go.
9) Fine
10) Sequel

Not many beginner friendly shows/films really, regardless of your metrics for quality.

Have you seen Noiseman Sound Insect?
it's cool bro, we can talk Satie. Personally I love most of his early solo piano compositions and feel he tanked in the early 20th century but that's just me. I wonder what a dubstep remix of Je te Veux would sound like.

Noiseman Sound Insect<3

Yes. Make this happen.

Ahahahaha. One of the best episodes yet.

Bungaku Shoujo is awesome, and
the bike, consequences, and Funky Girls skits made me laugh out loud.

Poor, neglected Tadakuni.

All it took for Chihayafuru to stop being about karuta was to have them not play karuta. So other than the training/sleepover thing, that's the second time they've done something at least only peripheral to karuta in this whole series. :p

If you don't have a sundae with me, it'll be over.

Available on Betamax, RCA Selectavision, or your other favorite modern video medium of choice.

I've also put the finishing touches on the ultimate Redline viewing experience:

Now with bad VHS tracking, static, screen glare, and rainbowing. Because blu-ray and original aspect ratio are for chumps.

This is so sexy.... its giving me the vapors.

Perhaps more worryingly there are probably people brand new to the whole 'anime thing' who use lists like this to decide what to watch:

topmen.png

I can only hope they don't start with the first title.

that's lot better than i imagined(I was expecting some god awful garbage like index or evangelion to top the list).

I remember fruit basket being rated best anime ever from quite a few sites(never seen it myself).

This is too good. Too bad we won't get more of it next season...

They need to release the manga down here.

My crazy high school girlfriend had me watch that with her back in the day. It was ok. Team Yuki 4ever.

FMA: Brotherhood 1

It's been a long while since I've seen the 3 or 4 eps I had of this series, and Milos sparked my interest, so I gave it a watch last night. Whether or not the interest holds remains to be seen (it never seems to with FMA), but this ep was fun and looked great. Does Brotherhood go over Ed's training for military like the OG series?

Nope. He already starts his journey awesome, and events escalate much faster than in the original anime.

No joke, when I first started getting really into anime a few years back, I used to check the ANN top ten to see what shows were worth watching.

How the times have changed...

The worst Evangelion is on the list though. Tragic.

Can't imagine it being worse since a movie would be shorter then the 26ep tv series(it is shorter right? knowing japan you never know).

I have to admit I use to use anime ranking sites to look for animes that are worth watching.

Brohood rushes through a lot of the first part of the manga/original to reach the material that wasn't covered by the first anime.

I started out watching stuff like Gunsmith Cats, Masters of Mosquiton, Sailor moon, Iria, Burn Up W, Plastic Little, Armitage.

This may be old news, but apparently Toei's going to simulcast the Saint Seiya Omega debut to three countries besides Japan: Taiwan, France, and Brazil.

I guess that settles which is the biggest American market for Saint Seiya.

I'm also hearing that there won't be a third Lost Canvas season... Huh.

That pretty much defines Brotherhood for me. You'll enjoy it :)

I don't think it's terrible when you're only looking to see what's worth watching, but some of the high rated stuff clearly need to be taken with a grain of salt.

Enjoy that first OP, the best one, and a pain to even find on youtube...

The Light of El Cantare
I can't even remember what influenced my viewing habits after I ventured beyond just watching whatever adult swim was spoon-feeding me. I consulted review sites, but never lists; I was probably always too hipster to trust the opinion of the masses.

I think I used this site when I was just beginning, and apparently it looks just the same today as it did in the mid-00s.

OMG Another is AMAZING. This is Final Destination anime-style. Really enjoying it.

PS: Who does the character designs for this? They seem familiar

THEM is a good site, but I remember reading a lot of reviews from animeondvd, which has since changed hands.

Friends don't let friends play monopoly, it ruins relationships.

The characters in this show are amazingly stupid and all in need of a slap to the face. Apparently at least one of the has to be insane for the 'drama' to work at all.

Same, I used THEM almost entirely in my earlier days. Got me into shows like Angelic Layer, which apparently the people (and I use that term very lightly) on MAL think is average to mediocre.
