The Light of El Cantare
It's too green. The vegetation is green. The Trapar vapors are green. Ao's hair is green. It all makes my eyes glaze over.

guys with bad facial hair going :< at kids with huge foreheads, that's pretty much eureka 7

That was pretty much standard Holland RENTON, I AM DISAPPOINT face.

Planetes (Manga):
Anime is better.
That's unfortunate to hear. :( At least you read it.
Feel free to dislike that first third, but try not to talk out of your ass about stuff you haven't actually seen
Talking out of my ass? Sure, I do that from time to time, I'll admit it. But don't get all pissy when it comes to your precious Utena. I didn't say it was impossible, I was just highly skeptical.
[Planetes]

The serialization ended while the TV series was already airing. I guess that could explain the differences (not that there weren't differences before that).
D'oh! I completely missed that fact.

No, he's the old doctor on the island who took Ao in when his parents bailed. I think he's supposed to be the mirror character for Renton's gramps.

That's better!

Guilty Crown 5-7

I don't see why Shu would believe anything Inori or Gai tells him after Inori admits to him
that what she told him before, she belonging to him, she wantign to protect him, was what Gai told her to tell him. It's laughable that she later tells him "do as I say" and he does, listen to Gai burting out some lame stuff and all that shit happens. It's like Shu doesn't learns, meanwhile Gai is fucking all the chicks. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up doing Shu's mother as well
Oh, and now
there's the connection to the girl that I guess Inori is based on (I feel like Inori is a clone or something? So she was like Shu's sister or something like that?

I'm telling you, bail out now for your own protection!

You've redeemed yourself.
You like the anime better than the manga too?
Well, that's some really terrible editing. It's a lot like someone (incompetently) took a bunch of scenes from one episode, cut them against each other randomly (while making sure not to synchronise with the bad music) and then called it a day.

It was about as inspiring as a waffle iron.
I don't get your metaphor. Waffle irons make me think of waffles. I like waffles.

It was actually a simile. I have nothing against waffles or waffle irons, however a trailer should producing some kind of reaction on my part. I'd hope that a Eureka Seven trailer would be a little awesome, as in inspires awe. This was about as inspirational as a waffle iron, in other words, not very inspirational.

*forehead smack* I figured I got that wrong. >_> I don't disagree with you on the trailer, of course.

A waffle Iron can be very inspiring under the right circumstances, I'm sure.

Renton: surfs on flying hoverboard

Ao: drives flying minivan

I think this pretty neatly sums up the whole problem with that what they've implied about the show there.

By which I mean, even in concept, driving a flying minivan is about as uncool a flying item as you can possibly drive. Flying cars, bicycles and maybe even scooters just seem inherently cooler.

In practice, it's about as exiting as it sounds.

Don't do that Jex, at least let us keep a little hope for AO.

The Light of El Cantare
It wasn't even a flying minivan, just a flying tuktuk. The uncoolest of the uncool and kind of hipster-y when you see that everyone else is driving awesome futuristic flying Batmobile things :(

I'm afraid it doesn't get much better. I remember episode 9 perking my eyes and ears, if for any reason, just compared to the rest of it.
Not worth the trek

I gotta admit, Guilty Crown is my guilty pleasure. I hear a lot of hate on it but dammit, I still watch it every week and enjoy myself.

well not really...yet
Good things about E7 AO trailer reveal:

New VAs for the leads. Good choice. No baggage and very few "hurr durr jokes" about characters the VAs worked on before.

Kouji Nakamura doing the music.

No CG. Animation looks very nice.

Bad things:

OP is obviously no DAYS by FLOW. Then again I dont think any show will ever match the first E7 in terms of how many fantastic OP/ED songs it had.

There's still somethng off about the whole thing. But at this point im still remaining hopeful that this can end up being an actual GOOD mecha series, something that hasn't existed in ages, even if it doesn't measure up to the original series.

That reminds me of small details I missed out on on my first watch of the series but now things I noticed on a rewatch of it.

That's cool. I had my own guilty pleasure not too long ago
*coughMitsudomoe*hack
. Had good fun with it despite it not being very humorous.

It depends how you define 'ages'. Shin Mazinger Z came out in 2009, after all.

She is as useless as usual. What happened in episode 9 shocking him that much?! Laughable!
He starts yelling and crying when looking at people, but he only calls
Inori a monster? lame!
So the girl was
Shu's sister. now I wonder what the link with Gai was. The son of a mistress of Shu's father?!

Is Shin Mazinger Z a "something shall get destroyed every episode" type of mecha like Shin Getter Robo?

If yes, I must watch it.

Well not really to that extent, no. Perhaps you'd rather watch the three part OVA Mazinkaiser SKL - it may be more up your street.

This week's episode was good and so was the week before. Unfortunately it wasn't until second season that it got really good.

Even when Shu seems to be able to finally look cool, he messes up in the end (yes, I'm totally blaming him for that end of episode!).

Question for Bones' fans that have been following the Ao announcements/rumors: is it by Studio A or by Studio B? Because the overall look of the show is closer to Studio A shows rather than to Studio B shows.

I think duckroll said it was A a while back

So the Tokyo International Anime Fair has announced their winners for the 2011 Tokyo Anime Awards:
Animation of the Year: Kokuriko-zaka Kara
Best TV Series: Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica and Tiger & Bunny
Best Domestic Film: Kokuriko-zaka Kara
Best Foreign Film: Tangled
Best OVA: Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn

Best Director: Akiyuki Shinbo ("Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica")
Best Scenario Writer: Gen Urobuchi ("Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica")
Best Art Director: Takumi Tanji ("Hoshi wo Ou Kodomo")
Best Character Designer: Masakazu Katsura ("Tiger & Bunny")
Best Voice Actor: Hiroaki Hirata ("Tiger & Bunny")
Best Music Director: Satoshi Takebe ("Kokuriko-zaka Kara")

However, Urobuchi still isn't too thrilled with the Tokyo government over the "youth ordinance bill" and is using this as a chance to send a message to them:
Puella Magi Madoka Magica screenwriter Gen Urobuchi noted on Thursday that the metropolis of Tokyo praised him with the Best Screenplay award in the Tokyo Anime Awards. However, he also commented that the government of the same Tokyo metropolis passed a bill "threatening freedom of expression with an ridiculous ordinance," leaving him very worried. According to Urobuchi, the awards were announced before he had a chance to decline, as manga creator Noboru Kawasaki (Kyojin no Hoshi) had done last year.

Urobuchi noted that he has until February 23 to submit a comment of 200 Japanese characters or less for publication in a commemorative book for the awards. He considered it a chance to send a message to the metropolis of Tokyo.

Although Urobuchi said that he is good at writing text that put "earnest girls and old men smitten with unrequited love" in jeopardy, he has trouble writing in excruciating detail about the law. Therefore, he is asking his Twitter followers for help writing the message. He noted that a Tweet only has 140 characters, so he will pad out the final comment with 60 or so filler characters about being honored with the award.

Also, today I learned that Urobuchi's Twitter avatar is Frank the Bunny from Donnie Darko.

Once again, I can blame Shu for all this mess to begin with! If only he
didn't call his sister a monster back in the day, nothing would have happened!
I don't understand what made Inori
fall in love with him. Nothing he said or did really looked like something that would make a person wet their panties to me. I also found it funny that in episode 10 or 11 Ayase shouts Shu when her mech is hit. Why would she do that when she had the hots for Gai?
It makes little sense to me, but whatever.
Too bad they didn't really
save Mana, as I'm always up for some delicious incest.
