I see you misunderstand animeGAF

That's right, it's not over until everyone has suffered experienced the same thing. Then, finally, when everyone's watched it we can move on to some other masterpiece or a new person might have turned up by the and the cycle can begin again.

Recorder and Ransel 5

the demon = this show, the kids = the viewers

They pull the same stupid unfunny fucking joke 3 times. Now this wouldn't be that big an issue if it was merely a running gag in a long running tv show but the last time I checked this was a series of 3-minute shorts. Ugh.

Wow, this looks amazing.

So nakamura is ACTUALLY making the equivalent to Anohana next season!

Staff is worse than the staff of [C] but the art direction and premise looks a hell of a lot more interesting so who knows.:o
Considering the art doesn't look terrible like [c] I'd say it's off to a pretty good start.

Better question: ADV dub, Bang Zoom dub, or subs?

I'm not actually sure which dub it is, and I'm afraid I'll spoil something if I try to skip to the credits.

The dub I watched was about as good as the movie itself.

so

that

There's something vaguely ominous about the way you worded that.

I thought both were fine. (I think that was me that recommended it too!)

I'm no dummy. If a bear tells you to do something, you fucking do it.

Another technique they're using is deliberately limiting the frames of animation after the initial render. This replicates how 2D animation looks when composited from keyframes and inbetween frames. If it looks completely smooth like CG tends to compared to animation, you lose the impact of the strong poses in keyframes that traditional animation is known for. Presumably this is more pronounced because of Imaishi's style when it comes to directing action.

This reminds me of the animation process they used when making The Iron Giant. The Iron Giant himself was completely CG. When they first created him they found that his movements appeared far too smooth so they deliberately added in elements to 'rough up' the appearance of the CG animation therefore making it appear more traditional.

I watched the BRS OVA a couple of days ago to get myself up to speed on this. It didn't do much for me and I thought that
Yomi's jealousy over Mato's new friend
was pretty stupid throughout, but it was watchable and had pleasant animation and background art.

My main problem was that the whole thing was boring.

[Natsume Season IV - 5]

Another really strong episode for this fourth season of Natsume. As with the previous couple of episodes, the production and direction are once again on par with the original season. The most impressive aspect of all this is that this very story has been told on the show two times already, there's very little fresh about the 'core' of it. The difference is all in the presentation and the angle they took with this episode.
It's definitely great to see Natsume at top form, especially as Chihayafuru hasn't been at its best lately.

Your comment about the "original season" reminds me of a comment another poster made a little ways back in this thread that Season 4 has been a return to form after two bad seasons, which confused me as I thought the general consensus was that both the first two seasons were strong and it was only in the third season when the quality became unacceptable. Can you or anyone else comment on the second season's quality in relationship to the first and fourth? I'd like to know how much I should prioritize watching it.

AnimeGAF is basically a pyramid scheme. It's funded on the reactions to shitty anime from junior members who keep subjecting themselves to this stuff under the hope that one day they can be a proper member of the community and subject newer arrivals to the same horrors.

It sounds so beautiful when you put it like that.

Trailers for the Anime Bunko OVAs (Naoko-san, Minori Scramble and Gyo), animated by ufotable. Naoko-san and Minori Scramble look well made but Gyo looks kind of bad (look at the CG fishs!), which is a pity since it was the most interesting of the three projects.

PENGUINS!! HNNNNNNNGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So the new Nakamura show is about aliens and fishing? Consider me cautiously interested.

I like fishing aliens. Speaking of which, I woke up just now and saw the after-image of an alien from my dream. It was creepy as fuck.

It does. So pretty.

Funimation has relicensed Prétear. Which is currently still available for $8 at RightStuf.
Awesome! Pretear is great.

Is it good? Tell me before I waste eight dollars on it.

definitely check it out. Its adorable. You will want to preat with Himeno.

Finnish Embassy Acknowledges Strike Witches
The Finnish embassy in Tokyo responded on Twitter on Sunday to a question posed about the Strike Witches anime franchise. The embassy was answering questions on its official Twitter account on Sunday, when a user named Mersu06 asked the embassy if Finland knew that an anime had re-imagined the Juutilainen brothers of World War II as two sisters "with big breasts who fight in underpants."

The embassy replied to the question stating that it "knew all about that."
Not even Finland can escape from the existence of Strike Witches.

It's definitely great to see Natsume at top form, especially as Chihayafuru hasn't been at its best lately.

If you're talking about me then I'm pretty sure I said it was a return to the form of the first two seasons. Anyone who think's season two isn't up there with the first season quality wise is insane.

It's been awhile since I watched the second season - I remember it being pretty good, though not as strong as the original. The real drop off in quality comes with season 3 - which is unsurprising given that Brain's Base were making three shows that season.

Chihayafuru 12

An amazing episode that just sealed this series for me.
From Chihaya discovering the book of articles her parents have been collecting to the Empress finally recognizing the passion the team has karuta.
This was just the best feel-good episode I've seen thus far. This show was on Funimation's survey (which I'm happy to say I had voted for without having even seen an episode of), so I hope it gets picked up for a BD home release.

"I must somehow make sense of our convoluted situations". - Lord Chris aka anime rambo

holy shit. amazing... just absolutely amazing.

You ain't seen nothing yet! Is what I'd like to say - but you've pretty much seen the best part.

These cutesy girl crushes are fairly tame in nature. They dont really seem to be outright yuri.
There is such a thing as being good friends without wanting to fuck the others brains out.
Of course, we want to imagine that that's the case.

Kissing or attempted rape or it didn't happen.

no fucking way

fucking WAY, man

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand bought. This better be great.

Its a fun show. Himeno is kind of a smart ass, bratty girl and not your typical magical girl candidate. She has to "preat" with certain people, which sounds embarrassing as hell and probably is, in a hilarious way, but it is at least competently written and people I know who dont even like magical girl shows seem to kind of like it. Plus it has great music. Here is the OP. Dont read the comments because of fuckers spoiling it.

Your first point is undeniable, really. For the second one I have one doubt; with the focus put in making a thoughtful use of key-framing to make stand out poses and a more conscious movement, I suppose the gap of time spent (man-hours) working between the two types of animation processes should be at least close enough to compare them on a shot-by-shot basis, no?

Well, let's compare episode 1 then.

For the 2D part there is an animation director, 24 keyframe animators, an in-between checker, 11 in-between animators and 5 more general studios credited. This is not counting the additional staff listed who are in charge of the coloring and finish for the frames, as well as the background artists who have to draw the backgrounds and so on for those scenes. Not to mention compositing it all together and so on. In total it took over 60 people to create about 15 minutes 30 seconds of what is generally imo, average or below average 2D animation footage.

For the 3D part there are 17 CG Animators, 9 modelers, a modeling supervisor, 2 character riggers, and 2 animation layout artists. If you include everyone else who worked on composite and so on, there is about exactly 40 guys who worked exclusively on the CG portion of the show. For episode 1, this translates to about 6 minutes of pretty high quality animation for a TV series, and the majority of it being action scenes.

As BRS TV is meant to be a production which showcases the strengths of the 3 companies which compose of Ultra Super Pictures, I would say that based on episode 1, Sanzigen working with Trigger on the CG portion are clearly the parties who are showing their worth here. Ordet's contribution to the 2D portion of the episode leaves much to be desired.

For another comparison. The opening for BRS TV is entirely CG as well. It is directed and storyboarded by Imaishi, and there are 9 CG animators and 5 compositors on it. That's the entire extent of the action packed sequence. I would say it is a lot more efficient in terms of manpower use than a typical action heavy anime opening sequence, which could generally have well over 20-30 people working on it in total.

I'm not sure if on this production each one of the 'computer-graphics model animators' (a big number of them present on this episode, much resources) work individually on a scene or in groups. Was this shown on the NHK WORLD report? I need to check it later and inform me more on this subject...

No, this is not shown, but with CG animation, it is also much easier to break up scenes for different animators to work on, compared to 2D animation. For an action scene to flow really well in 2D, because of the level of workmanship involved in the art, it is preferable for one animator to animate an entire series of cuts for an action part, rather than to break it up too much. For CG, that is less of an issue because everyone is working off the same assets, and the director/compositor has full control of the camera.

This is my opinion based on what I know of the subject and the tools, and it may or may not reflect how Sanzigen is working on this show.

guilty crown 15

the childhood friend finally admits feelings for shu. show proceeds to kill her off in the dumbest way ever.

i'm completely blown away with the capacity of this show to get even shittier with each and every episode. i... i just can't bring myself to watch this horrendous piece of shit anymore. it's so goddamn fucking awful. dropped.

It's weird how every single week since the show started, people have been dropping Guilty Crown, and yet there are STILL people who remain. How many people started watching the show to begin with? Everyone? What a horrifying thought. :)

i picked it up again after dropping it. i'm never making that same mistake ever again. hands down one of the worst shows i've ever seen.

I don't really think so, but do you have examples?

One of the most famous, especially in Japan, is the 11th century Tale of Genji, where the titular character kidnaps a girl from a life of poverty at a young age and then raises her to eventually be his wife. This tactic is even called the Hikaru Genji Plan when used in literature. This shit is older than print.

Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai 4

Yeah, I think Trojita said it best. This show is like something you see and are horrified at, but that kind of endears you to it and you want to see it be get better, like a sick puppy or a little bird with a broken wing. It definitely has potential, but I can't tell if that's because I WANT it to have potential or not...
